Your typical board short might dry quickly, but the Men's Thrive SUP Short dries with lightening speed and it boasts supreme comfort thanks to highly breathable Thrive fabric—top that, surf companies. Need another reason to ditch your simple, plastic-bag-like boardies? Stoic engineers outfitted this short with fully-welded construction to eliminate chafe-inducing seam bulges, and this short has a tapered fit that plays nice with the stance required for stand-up paddleboarding or surfing.
- Breathable and dynamic Thrive stretch-weave material vents body heat and wicks sweat away from your body while you paddle
- Thrive material dries quickly once you're out of the water
- 3-D Ergonomic fit tapers from the waist to hips and uses a slightly looser fit towards the knees so this short can move as you move
- Welded construction eliminates annoying seam bulk and reduces the opportunities for uncomfortable chafing in or out of the water
- Thigh zip pocket gives you a quick and easy place to store your car keys or a small snack

Nice shorts, but thigh pocket came off

I really like these shorts and ended up buying 2 pairs. The material is light and stretchy, great for rock climbing. But, the thigh pocket started to peel off after about 6 months of use. It's just a piece of fabric that's glued on to the outside of the shorts. Other than that quality control issue, they are great.
very nice shorts

I really like these shorts. The stretchy material is great for climbing, exercising, or just lazing around the house. These are incredibly light, but they feel strong as well. I haven't used them for water sports as other reviews have mentioned, but I'm sure they will work great.
The pockets are a bit shallow, but there is a zip pocket on the rip leg which works great for holding money, keys, crack, etc.
For sizing- I wear a 33-34 in jeans, have big skier quads, a bit of a beer gut, and a size Large works great with these shorts.
Great shorts

Nice fabric - stretchy and breathable. I actually like the short front pockets, as it lets me run with my phone and it doesn't flop around. These are probably not the toughest shorts for crawling through briars, etc., but they're super comfortable, versatile, and handsome.

Bought both colors and love the how they fit, look, and especially the positive comments I get on them. Guys and gals asking where I got them. I wish there were more color choices. I am so glad I bought both colors when I bought them. No regrets. Dry super fast!
Awesome

Use them for a swim suit. A little thin so wear under armor shorts underneath if you know what I mean. Very flexible. Use them as an alternative to gym shorts.

The positives: very lightweight and the material is really stretchy. Would probably work really well for water sports and rock climbing.
The negatives: these just didn't fit me at all. I'm a 32/33 waist and the large was too loose and medium was too tight. They're also longer than pretty much all other shorts. The pockets are absolutely useless. They're way too shallow to be any good and are placed right in the front, not the side so you would have your belongings rubbing against your front upper thigh all day on hikes. Also, the leg openings are really wide. Someone else mentioned they could fit both legs in them. I tried it and I could too.
A few minor changes and these shorts would be awesome, but I'll be returning them.

Love these shorts. They are very lightweight and extremely comfortable. They are incredibly stretchy, great for climbing. I have the original Thrive's as well and it is nice to have the extra pocket on the Thrive SUP shorts.

Extremely comfortable. Super light and stretchy. Great for any activity from hiking to running to kayaking to bumming around town. No need for anything else. Still comfortable when wet and dry incredibly fast. The best all-around short I own. Very functional. I think the pockets are great - not so deep to have stuff bouncing around when running - but plenty deep for wallet, a few jells, keys, etc. I think they run slightly small as a medium fits me (32/33 waist) just right. The two straps used to adjust waist are a bit funky but work fine.

Pros: super lightweight, super stretchy, has 2 front pockets , and a zippered leg pocket. Has side straps instead of string to tighten around your waist. I LOVE the blue color! Looks really good! Feels great!
Cons: The front pockets are tiny (my iPhone barely fits in it standing up). They need to be deeper. The zippered leg pocket is perfect except for the punched out Stoic logo hole to drain the water. The hole is big enough that your Chapstick or maybe some dimes will find their way out. Stoic should have put a mesh backing there. The leg holes are huge! I can put both my legs through one pant leg. Way to big and annoying.
A brilliant pair of shorts

I'm a huge fan of Stoic's gear, and the SUP Thrive shorts don't disappoint. I don't do many watersports, but I always like having a quick-drying, breathable, and light pair of shorts for rock climbing.
These shorts are really stretchy so you have a full range of motion with your legs, and have flat seams, so after moving around for a while, you don't get chaffed by all the stitching.
The side pocket is also in a really convenient place. It's not quite on the side of your legs so it doesn't swing wildly with each step. It's more on the back of your leg- it's pretty much like a normal back pocket that's just a little lower. It's a really nice subtle touch.
5/5 stars for these killer shorts
Excellent shorts

These are sick! Nice stretchy material and incredibly light. I love the welded seems. It really cuts down bulk and saves you from chafing.
I'm 5'7, have a 30" waist, the smalls fit me perfectly, and stop right before my knee.
Hand pockets are a little tight, but I suppose that's already better than most board shorts that don't have any pockets at all. The thigh pocket is nice, and the zipper doesn't really annoy me. The logo on the pocket is cut out though, which is strange. I feel like it's just going to rip, and I'll be left with a big hole.
Anyways, these shorts are so awesome that my only complaints are the pockets, awesome for climbing, chillin and watersports
Best Shorts Ever!

First let me clear up the pocket question about the difference between these and the regular Thrive shorts. The regular Thrive shorts have two front pockets, these SUP thrive shorts have two front pockets AND a zippered side pocket (IE, 3 pockets, the perfect amount)
With that out of the way, these things rock! they are super super light (I couldn't believe it when I first picked them up), they shed light water, don't take on much weight when they do saturate, and stay comfortable all the way through. (it's like if a board short and a regular short had a super baby) I have used them for running, skim boarding at the beach, and hanging out at a family gathering... performed amazing for all three situations. These are so awesome I might just buy a second pair and throw the rest of my shorts out.
What is the difference in between these...

What is the difference in between these and the other Thrive shorts, other than the thigh zipper pocket and the cool blue color option???? The material make-up is the same, as well as the fit and the welded seams....just curious. the blue is pretty stellar though
