I'm 6'3, 175 and a large is a good fit. I often find myself between a large (for girth) and XL (for length) and this shirt was the right comprise for me in L. The synthetic material is light-weight and dries fast. It has held up well hiking and camping. But also looks good to just wear around town. The chest zip pocket is nice for a small item when scrambling around.
Sizing not so great

Disclaimer: This'll be the first return out of a couple dozen items I've ordered through backcountry; thank god for their excellent return policy.
I bought the shirt after having read reviews and figuring out I was a Large (6'0, 200lbs) . I was excited to get it, and tried it on instantly as soon as I opened the package. It looked and felt good, but realized only once I had it on that the fit was not as athletic as reviews described, or as pictures made it look. I realized the fit was Regular before purchasing it, but I was hopeful after all the reviews. I found it to be a little loose, and the sleeves a bit long. I can describe it as being a bit Square, and not fitted through the waist. I was sad, because I really liked the shirt's looks. From what I hear, the Medium might be too tight across the chest, so I may not risk it again.
Overall good shirt, but if you're into a more athletic fit, this is not it.
Great lightweight synthetic shirt

Athletic fit, not too baggy, I'm 6' tall / 170lbs and the large fit me perfectly. Drys well, doesn't get too much stink. Great value for the price and performance.
Stoic Roam Shirt Review

What a great shirt. I have yet to wear it for the hiking I intended to use it for because it is such a good looking shirt. I have worn the shirts to work now on a couple occasions and have recieved high remarks from my peers. Incredibly comfy. If you want a solid all around shirt that looks like a fine Tommy Bahama with real world wear and tear durability;this is the shirt. Great job Stoic. 5 STARS!
Don't get caught without it!

- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
My bag was lost on a recent trip to Marrakech and Spain and all I had was 1 spare pair of jocks and the clothes I was wearing. I had my black Roam which I washed each night and wore daily for 2 weeks. It dried quickly, looked stylish and each day looked fresh and as if ironed. I bought 2 x each colour when they were $20 on sale and wish I bought more. It's a slim fit, so if you're trim you can look like a million bucks though it's true it's not as breathable as you might hope when in the Sahara.
Whats not to love?

As soon as I tried this shirt on it became one of my favorites. This is a very light, stretchy, comfortable fabric that dries very quickly and packs small making it perfect for travel, adventure or just around town. Compared to the rest of my Stoic clothing it runs a little smaller so be prepared that even though it looks like a button down camp shirt it actually fits like an athletic fit polo. I have 2 of these and am just trying to decide what color to pick up next...
Stylish, comforatable, a winner!

- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I purchased this for my husband for Christmas having never heard of the brand before, and being a bit hesitant that it looked like a bowling shirt. All worries were pushed aside, however, when he put it on. He keeps saying it is the most comfortable shirt he owns, and that he wants many more of them! It is quite tailored and very slimming. The stretch is just enough to move with him in every direction, but not so much that it ever loses its shape. It has a straight hem so it does not have to be tucked in, which he loves. The only odd thing is that the snaps are plastic - but there's nothing particularly wrong with that - just odd. Overall, totally worth it. Folds up small, too, so excellent for packing. I ordered a Large for him and it fit perfectly - 6'2" 195-200#.
Great shirt!

- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I've now had two of these - here's why:
When I first ordered the Roam, I spent some time chatting with a Backcountry rep online. We discussed Stoic sizing. I wear a medium in most Stoic outerwear - the Bombshell, the Hadron, the Luft - and he explained that this should fit the same. Not even close! I received the medium Roam at the office and tried it on. Immediate memories of Chris Farley in Tommy Boy come to mind. Except I'm not fat. I swear! But, I couldn't even come close to buttoning the thing. So, return and exchange for a large. Perfect fit! I'm 5'10" with about a 41" chest, for comparison's sake.
The fabric is very cool. It does have a bit of a synthetic feel to it, but I expected that. The stretch is the nice part. It's not loose stretch. It feels like it has some serious strength to it.
I chose the Forest color. It's a bit richer in color than it appears in the photo, but the tone is spot on.
I planned on using the Roam as a mountain biking and camping shirt, but it's slick enough to wear around town as well, even if my wife doesn't think so...

The shirt fits well, but the fabric wasn't nearly as breathable as I expected. I liked the stretchiness and feel of it, just not how sweaty it made me.

I just received the black version of this shirt. I got it while it was on sale for $19.95. At that price its a redonkulous deal. Super comfy and I think the fit is dead on. I'm not sure why everyone is saying it runs small - I'm 6', 185 and got the Large, which is what I usually wear in these types of shirts, and it fits perfectly. Not even snug. I could probably wear the medium. The quality seems to be top notch. My only concern is washing it - I worry that if I use warm water or put it in the dryer the seams will shrink and the material won't - to be safe, I'll probably hand wash it and hang dry. Otherwise, no concerns. Awesome shirt.

Nice shirt. I got mine primarily for Mtn biking. I like the casual slim fit and quick drying fabric. I didn't notice the seams wearing my hydration pack and the collar keeps the summer sun off of my neck.. The slim fit didn't billow out and the longer shirt tail didn't ride up under my pack. The chest pocket is nice for stashing my phone or MP3 player. Tech enough for the trail and casual enough for the post ride burger and brew at the pub.

The shirt is cut form fitting - but it stretches nice, pretty abrasion resistant and best thing - it has a long torso and tuck in very nicely under a harness and stays tucked! Key for all those outdoor professionals out there!

I wear this shirt to the office most of the time. I enjoy the fit, styling and wrinkle free. I did have to exchange a medium for a large. I normally wear a medium in most shirts.
Does this shirt stink after wearing it? ...

Does this shirt stink after wearing it? I try to avoid polyester because of the stink factor, but no reviewers have complained about it.

Hey butternuth2157428,
Thanks for the question. I have this shirt and I used it on a substantial sailing trip in the Tabago Keys and I found that the first two days were fine. 3rd day is when it started to get noticeable, but better than most polyester blends.
Good work Stoic!

I like the look on the site, when you actually wear it, maybe a slight kind of glance at self in the mirror. But good quality, good product. Sizing runs slightly small.

These shirts are great. The fabric is very comfortable is hot and cool weather. The shirt is practically wrinkle free. I get complements every time I wear the shirt. For me the shirts are true to size. I am 6 feet tall and about 210 lbs with a 42" chest size. The size Large is perfect. The Backcountry Provo Shirt is basically the same shirt. I have one of each. I like the Stoic colors better.
Awesome shirt

What else can I say, this is an awesome shirt. Highly water repellant, dries quickly. A perfect amount of stretch. I bought it in multiple colors.
