All-around good pant but a little large
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: Runs large
I like these pants a lot, I've worn them many times to climb, ski, hike, chill on the sofa, etc and they do great. Problem is- they are very large. I'm 5'9'' around 150lbs and I got a large, but I probably should have gotten a medium. They are very very long, so if you're a tall girl these would be great. I thought I was tall but the large is significantly longer than I would hope. Still, I love folding them into crops while I'm climbing and relaxing. The plus side to the large, long end is that they fit over my ski boots. Another thing that I don't particularly like about these pants is that its a little difficult to access the rear pockets, just doesn't feel natural. On the other hand, the leg pocket is pretty cool.
How stretchy is the waistband? I'm looking...
How stretchy is the waistband? I'm looking for something to carry me through the middle part of my pregnancy.
Great Pants In General
- Gender: Female
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Fit: I got the black pair in size XS and everything fit perfectly except for the problem that others have mentioned; there is a lot of excess fabric at the waistband area. The cutting just seems like it is made for women without any curves whatsoever and go straight from their waist to their hips to their buttocks. I am not that curvy (hips: 35in, waist: 24in) so everything else fit (hips and below). I was able to sew an elastic onto the waistband which solved the problem, but it would have been better if I didn't need to do that. The thigh and leg area is nice and loose for lots of movement. The legs are a little long for me, but this was expected, being only 5ft tall (everything is always too long for me).
Materials: The fabric is very stretchy and so far it does appear to be wrinkle-free. It is slightly thicker than my other hiking pants (NF, Marmot, prAna, MH) so I'm assuming it will be tougher in terms of wear and tear. I haven't tested this directly as I am not that hardcore in my hikes. I like the black color contrasted with the teal trim and zipper pulls, which makes access to pockets easier. Unfortunately, there were only three pockets, not 5 as advertised. There are two back pockets and one side leg pocket. In the picture the flap over the pocket appears to reach the front so I thought those were pockets; however, they turned out to be the design of the trim and there were no front pockets under the flap. There is a nice softer fabric trim along the waistband which makes longer wear more comfy.
Overall, these are a decent pair of pants. I got them on sale so I will be keeping them. I took one star off for the waistband and lack of front pockets.

- Fit: Runs small
Super comfortable pants, they have good stretch to them and they are light weight. They seem to be very durable which is great if you use them on the trail a lot. The sizing on them is a little small I think, I still stuck with my usual size (5'3 125, size small) but they are a bit tighter fitting than other brands. Despite them feeling a little too tight I still wear them all of the time! Do yourself a favor and get a pair before they are gone.

I am 5'8" and 110lbs, waist omg 27"(???) hips 34" What size should i try?
Hey Naomi, thanks for your question!
In my experience Stoic actually tends to run pretty long and lean.
If you can, I would try ordering both a small and a medium to see which size is going to be best, then you can send back the size that didn't work out, (try chatting with one of our gearheads and they can easily set this up for you).
I am 5'3" and the size smalls have always been a little bit long for me, but it could be too short for your 5'8".
Do these pants have a big flare to...
Do these pants have a big flare to them?
Would have loved these except for the waist/hip proportion issue. Just no way to make them work - maybe if you are pregnant? Nice fabric and details but definitely not a women's fit. Bummer.
great in theory, poor execution

I love Stoic tops, but their pant sizing needs some help. I am solidly in the "Small" size range (27" waist, 37" hip), but these pants were tight through the thighs, hips, & crotch and baggy in the waist. They are also long, but I'm only 5'3" so that isn't unexpected for me. I loved the pants, but the sizing is so odd that I won't be able to wear them and will have to send them back.
So cool... need better sizing :(

The fabric is great. Black is very black. The Dark Forest is a really cute dark green. Smooth and super stretchy. The length is a solid 32", maybe a bit longer. The three (not five... no front hand pockets) pockets are purely ornamental... too small for a cell phone, barely shove a power gel into them. The styling is sleek enough that you can wear them as casual pants, they don't look like hiking pants.
I have 30" waist, 39" hip, 32" inseam. I tried the large first... the waist was way too big for me. So I tried the medium... way too snug for me in waist and hip (fine from mid-thigh down). I'd call the large a size 12, and the medium an 8. Guess who needs a 10? Sadly returning them.

forget buying carharts for your rugged outdoor work, just buy these. Rip resistant fabric that takes a beating make these my go to work pants. Sluff off water, and dirt, hair , and snow, and they have some forgiving stretch to them as well. I am 5'5 @ 122lbs, and i bought the Medium - they fit perfect in hip and thigh, however, they are bit long in the leg - but i got over that quickly.
