Description

Itch not, stink not.

Toss all your synthetic base layers in the trash and opt for the funk-fighting, moisture-managing Stoic Merino 150 Crew Shirt this season. Employing 17.5-micron Merino wool from New Zealand, the Merino Crew Shirt ensures comfortable, dry days whether you're out for a mid-January dawn patrol or an autumn ride down the single track. Merino transfers moisture while your sweat is in its primary vapor form, so unlike most synthetic fabrics the Merino Crew Shirt begins to pull moisture away from your body before your shirt becomes saturated. And since wet usually means cold in the backcountry, warm Merino is the way to go. The athletically-fitted Merino Crew Shirt feels great against the skin so you can wear it during your ride and then to the pub, and your post-ride car mates will thank the powers that be for Merino's natural odor-shunning properties. A reflective logo hit on the Merino Crew's front neckline ensures a little more safety during your evening runs, and the thumbholes at the cuffs take the bunch out of layering.

Love Merino!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Merino wool makes the best baselayer. Love this shirt's warmth and feel. Not itchy at all. Great by itself (stylish too!) or as a base while enjoying really any outdoor activity. Stoic makes a good, high quality product that lasts.

Definitely a keeper

I bought my Merino wool several years ago for skiing and fell in love. This shirt is soft, comfy, and super warm. I bought a size small since I'm 5'7" and 115lb and very petite and it fits perfectly. I'm a one layer kind of girl so this fits the bill. It is showing a few signs of abuse, though. I have a large hole on the right sleeve right next to the thumb gaiter and the edges on the sleeves are starting to wear as well. Nothing catastrophic, just what you'd expect after countless pow days over the seasons.
Oh and my friends like it because it doesn't get nearly as stanky as my other base layers when I wear them multiple days in a row.

So warm!

This is my first wool base layer (my last being cotton, yes, I'm a terrible outdoors person). My first winter hike was -10 F when we left the car, and it only warmed up to about 2 degrees all day. And I was comfortable all day, with just this a wool sweatshirt and a softshell. And it was not smelly at all at the end of the day (in fact I wore it to work the next day because it was so comfortable!). The fit is excellent, I love the long arms with the thumb holes, a lot of the time I don't even wear gloves because of it. My only complaint is that it looks like an athletic shirt, because of the dual colors, but oh well.

Fantastic!

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift

My daughter absolutely LOVES this shirt as a base layer for Nordic skiing or for running in cool weather. Great fit, convenient thumb holes hold the sleeves in place, nice colors. She asked for another one for her birthday! Guess what she'll be getting!?!

My Favorite lightweight layer

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I bought this shirt as a base layer for an Alaska hiking trip. I got a medium (5'6, 130pounds) and found it a little larger than I would want for a base layer but I love it as a stand alone shirt. I lived in Hawaii when I bought it and found the shirt was light enough to wear there but heavy enough to keep me warm in a cool rain, cool night, windy day, or when sitting outside on shady morning. It is flattering, comfortable and a great color (I got the basin blue with mineral green stitching). After wearing it on our first trip I vowed I would buy more of these which is exactly what I am doing now.

It's alright

I got this in pink/white several years ago. Used it quite a bit - mostly for casual around-the-house wear until I lost it. No idea how, but it has disappeared. I'm not heartbroken about it, but remember it fondly, so I guess that makes this worth three stars.

Nifty Shirt!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

Great shirt that I got on super sale! I wear them for hiking and biking.

Fit: I got the size XS and it fits me pretty well (5ft, 95lbs). The neck is a little small so I have to squeeze through it; maybe I just have a big head? There is a little stretch to the fabric. Otherwise, everything else fits well; thumbholes line up, good length, fitted throughout torso (waist 24in, hips 35in).

Appearance: I got a super deal on these so I ended up with three of them (black/coral, boysenberry/forest, jade/agave). The contrast colors give it a nice style and trim to show off natural curves. The colors are a shade darker in person.

Material: Nice breathable fabric with little stretch.

Use: They keep me warm but not sweaty at the same time. Great use so far. The thumbholes help keep my hands warm. I have been able to wear just this for fall hiking/biking in Bay Area, California weather.

wearing it right now. I love these warm wool shirts.

She digs it

I bought this for my niece. Here's what she had to say:"This shirt is slightly heavier then the Smartwool micro weight shirts. The fabric is soft, and is a great top layer for a run on a chilly summer morning. In the winter I am sure that I will use it as a base layer as well. I love these wool shirts to just wear around the house with jeans as well in the winter--I stay nice and warm without the bulk of a big sweater. "

Great layering piece!

I LOVE this shirt! The sleeves are long enough, the hem is long enough, it doesn't itch, it wears like iron (I've had mine over a year), and it's a lightweight yet warm first layer. I don't think the light colors work well as stand-alone shirts--too see-through--but the darker colors may be okay. All in all, a great piece for backpacking or working outdoors.

Wore it to pieces- Literally

This shirt is the best. I got mine in 2011 and literally wore it to pieces. AND since it's Stoic I then returned it got a refund and then bought another. Its so soft, doesn't ever smell and looks great. I highly recommend this shirt. I actually got a Men's M the first time around because I wasn't looking for a tight fit. This time I'm trying for the Ladies L.

Great!

Great baselayer, need to size up if you want it a little on the loose side. Holds up after washing and hang-drying.

Stoic rules!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have more than a few different Stoic shirts and love them all. I wear this one in layers or alone. I ordered it one size up to fit a bit more loose. I plan on ordering another in the next size down to be more fitted as a base layer. I agree that they resist odors and are not at all itchy. This shirt got softer after washing. Overall, it is a great all-purpose shirt.

Love this shirt!

I bought one a few years back. Loved it! Finally bought more this last month, along with the Stoic Breathe shirt (polyester). I sent the polyester one back (itchy and hangs badly) and will always go for the merino. It's very soft, light and hangs very nicely on the body. The color details on the black shirt are very flattering as well. I bought the Medium and I'm 5'4" and 140lbs. I wear it by itself usually, but would use it as the base layer if i need warmth.

Bang for your buck!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I will start out by saying these are not as soft or nice feeling as say Smartwool or Icebreaker, but I got them because they are way less expensive. They are a great layer for the price! They did feel a bit scratchy when I first got them but after a few washes and wears, they softened up. It's a great top, and has long enough sleeves, yay! I should mention as well that they are actually 95% merino wool and 5% spandex.

sheep know baselayers

  • Gender: Female

A great basic merino base layer. The thumb holes are great for keeping sleeves from bunching up when you?re putting on another layer. Runs a little big in my experience.

Love this shirt not the right color

  • Gender: Female

This is one of the best shirts I have ever worn. I have it in black already and wanted another, so ordered the boysenberry. The color is simply not good for me. I might just get another one in black!

4 5

great, but...

I love the merino weight of the shirt. The sleeves fit great, I did not size down. One big issue. The crew neckline does not stretch! So every time it goes over my head, I tear some stitches out. My icebreakers have a stretchy crew neck and my stoics have stretchy hems and sleeves, so am clueless as to why this does not have a stretchy neck! I won't send it back cause I still wear it, but I've ordered another zip neck to replace this because this is really annoying and over time I don't know how long it will hold up.

fabulous shirt

love it, the arms are perfect (not too long). just wish stoic women's wool shirts came in a heavier weight like the men's. I love icebreaker 200 weight, but prefer the stoic fit, so a stoic 200 would be great.
