Description

Wicks moisture better and smells better than polypro.

Forget your fears about itchy wool\\227the Stoic Merino 150 Crew Shirt is a whole different beast. Employing 17.5-micron Merino wool from New Zealand, the Merino Crew Shirt ensures comfortable, dry days whether you're out for a mid-January dawn patrol or an autumn ride down the single track. Merino transfers moisture while your sweat is in its primary vapor form, so unlike most synthetic fabrics the Merino Crew Shirt begins to pull moisture away from your body before your shirt becomes saturated. And since wet usually means cold in the backcountry, warm Merino is the way to go. The athletically-fitted Merino Crew Shirt feels great against the skin so you can wear it during your ride and then to the pub, and your post-ride car mates will thank the powers that be for Merino's natural odor-shunning properties. A reflective logo hit on the Merino Crew's front neckline ensures a little more safety during your evening runs, and the thumbholes at the cuffs take the bunch out of layering.

Here's what others have to say...

A little baggy

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large

I have a couple medium short-sleeved merino shirts from Stoic and they fit pretty tight; I was hoping for the same with this, but not completely the case. Still a great layer but you could maybe size down from what you normally wear.

Great Layer

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I am not usually one to wear technical layers other than my long underwear. Usually I have technical long underwear with a cheap long sleeve t-shirt or crew sweatshirt on top but the Stoic Merino top changed my antiquated layering habits. Previously I would have issues with the long sleeve T or sweatshirt saturating with sweat halfway through the ski day and then getting cold as the sun began to set. The Stoic Merino shirt, while not totally solving this problem, does work wonders in prolonging the amount of time before I am saturated by wicking the moisture away from my body. Another big plus is the finger holes in the sleeves which may be my favorite feature of the shirt (no more sleeve bunching!). Overall, a very good under layer shirt that works well in various conditions.

Are you going to get any more mediums in...

Are you going to get any more mediums in stock before Christmas? (BTW, these are the best shirts EVER!)

Hi Amy,
Unfortunately we will not be getting more of these shirts in, sorry about that :(

Killer layer, killer price

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

This stoic layer compares extremely well to pieces costing twice as much--the 17.5 micron wool is buttery-smooth, and I've never had any itch while wearing it next-to-skin... and it wicks just like it should. I'm not sure how the magicians at Stoic make such an amazing wool layer happen for so little money--but at this price, I'll be picking up a couple extra layers this winter.

For reference, I'm on the tall side of 5'11", and I weigh just under 140. A small fits me snugly--just like I want it to.

Steal of a baselayer.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

It wicks, breathes, and doesn't stink. I love using the thumb holes when skiing. I've worn this on just about every outdoor excursion the last 2 years and it's still holding up great. Large fits my lanky 6'4" 175lb frame

My son is your height and with a 37 in arm length. Weight is 195. Will the large be to short and too tight for him. chest is 42"
Thanks. Tthe Pategonia Large was to short.

Decent baselayer

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I use this as a base in colder weather, and it works very well. Doesn't smell too badly, dries pretty quickly.

Not crazy about the thumbholes, but they don't get in the way.

Great Merino Shirt

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Athletic fit which is great. Wears well (tough enough for rock climbing), and doesn't stink. What more can you ask for this amazing price.

Great shirt

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I am a farmer (in Iowa) and wanted something comfortable and warm to wear while working outside. This shirt does everything well. It also wicks away the moisture very good.

Pleased

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Good fit, not itchy and comfortable. They're very useful in the transitional seasons. I bought two of these and am pleased with them.

Slightly loose fit

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I bought this as my first merino wool top, and I am very happy. The size is pretty standard, a bit too loose but that is a good thing. I used it straight for two days and could not feel any smell.
would definitely buy another one.

Nice!

The 150 is a great weight for cool mornings and layering. This was my first Merino wool shirt and I love it. To me more comfortable than any of the other materials I own. I like it so much I ordered one for my dad for Father's day! I'm 6'3" and 175 lb and the large is a good fit.

Nice!

Stoic 150 crew long sleeve

This shirt is well constructed, is extremely comfortable, and after a few days of wear has zero odor. Not even deodorant smell. I will be purchasing more.

Comfy, not super durable

So I like the comfort and the looks of this shirt. But I've purchased four different Stoic 150 weight merino shirts and 3 of the 4 have small tears in them. I'm no harder on these than my other shirts, yet I don't seem to have the same issue with the others. They are super comfy though.

Comfy, not super durable

Dad is pleased

Gave this to my father as a gift for snowshoeing and other outdoor activities. He loves it. It's light enough but keeps him warm and does well at wicking away the sweat. No complaints here

My new favorite light top

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is my new favorite light baselayer top! I now have 2. For me it fits (men's small) and has length in the body and the arms. Second, it feels as good or better than Capilene, LIFA, Coolmax, and Under Armor. For me I only ski in it so the length is welcomed and hte fit sold me. I love these!

What's your height and weight if you don't mind? I'm looking to get it as well.

Great product, great price

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I think these shirts are really the sweet spot in Stoic's merino line-up. 17.5 micron merino is as good as it gets for backcountry use-- maybe a little less durable than 18.5 or heavier, but warmer for the weight, better able, I think, to manage moisture, and much better feeling. Not sure why, but Stoic's merino seems to manage odor better than some of the other merino I've used. Colors available are, admittedly, better suited to another planet. Note to BC--we need more midnight/midnight/paprika in medium.

Great gift for Dad

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift

I got these shirt for my dad for Christmas. He really like it and it does a great job of keeping your core warm.

Slightly loose fit, passable merino

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

There are closer fitting and higher merino content baselayers, but this is nevertheless a good garment.

Gem

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is really a nice & practical shirt. It has become my go to base layer for skiing. Someone put some time into its thoughtful design and manufacture. And the properties of merino wool are remarkable -- warm, doesn't smell, hang-dries very quickly, etc.
