At first great - but they don't last

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I loved these socks for the first 2 months and wore a pair about once a week - within 3 or 4 months they all had worn thin in the back. This in spite of wearing them mostly to an office and light use around town (ie - not heavy hiking use). I was really excited at first because they fit great, I loved the tailored toe box, and that they were comfy. The price is sometimes good so I guess it's OK that they wear thin fast but it's a bigger hassle to constantly replace socks in my eyes and I'd rather pay a little more and get something that lasts.

"One wear and they look extremely old"

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

Warm, comfy and all that but my how they pill so. After only one days wear they had so much pilling on them you'd think I owned them for years. I read other reviews and not one mention of the pilling which is surprising. Maybe it's an isolated thing. A conspiracy perhaps? Just kidding.

Agree, very comfortable socks, wore them to work for the first time today to break them in for an upcoming hike and noticed that they pilled significantly on the bottom of the sock. Interesting, let's see if it's cosmetic only

I'm "Stoicked" for these socks.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

These socks are great! I got them for Christmas, and haven't wanted to take them off since. They're super comfortable, wick well, are warm without being stifling, and stay in place great. Also, they've pilled less than my Smartwools, so that's something. I'm not super into the high-tech look, but I'm willing to ignore that for all of the many benefits of this sock.
All in all, these are great socks for a great price.

Best... socks... ever.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

So far, I am thoroughly impressed with these socks. I am, in fact, wearing them right now. They stay remarkably warm without sacrificing comfort. I wear them to work on a regular basis, and walk around on concrete floors all day in my Merrell insulated boots. My boots make my feet sweat, and these socks aggressively combat the discomfort. I wear a 9.5 and the M/L is perfect. The sock stays up as well, which is clutch.

Happy camper

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These socks are super comfortable, fit true to size, and keeps my feet dry from sweat when hiking around in the summer, and keeps them nice and toasty when hiking in colder temps, plus you cant beat the price and quality of stoic gear!

Great sock

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I'm actually wearing these right now. So I can definitely say from experience that they are very comfortable. Perfect height on the ankle as well, and nice color schemes help you put your socks on the right way for those of us who are clothing impaired. :)

Amazing sock

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Did around 10-15 miles miles per day of hiking in these socks and they were amazing. Less smell than other socks. Wicked well. Warm. Wears well. good construction. Got some compliments from some ladies about a "Left" and "Right" sock. :) Much better price than the competition. I'm Size 11.5 and Large fits perfect.

Just right

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

These socks are great. Merino keeps you warm and also keeps you from sweating. Good fit. Ample cushioning on the bottom. Big bonus is that the elastic is good and the sock doesn't run down your leg throughout the course of the day.

That's a comfy sock right there!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

These socks feel great and I've worn them for cycling mainly. They've done the trick from cool 50'ish degree mornings to 80 degree afternoons. Will definitely consider this brand for when the time comes to buy a heavier sock for the winter.

great sock

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Bought these socks on sale. they were warm and comfortable on trip into Colorado mountains. Only thing was with my taller hunting boots the did seem to chaf a little near top of boot. But with lower hiking boots they were great loved them. My buddy has had blisters on this trip every year till this year. But he finally broke down and bought a pair of merino wool socks.

Comfy

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I wear a size 12 shoe and ordered the Large which fits perfect! The compression around the middle of your foot really helps the sock stay in place. When I am wearing them I can literally feel the moisture going by by! All-in-all they are the best socks for the best price! I have worn many wool socks, but these take the cake!

Exceeded my expectations

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Bought this sock as a cheaper alternative to some of the other brands. Everything made my Stoic has exceeded my expectations, so I knew this sock would do the same. I just barely did a 28 miler in the Wind River Range over two days, and needless to say, I was shocked at how nice they were. Will be buying several more. I have a size 13 foot, the L/XL worked well.

Look no further

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Best hiking socks I have ever owned or ever imagine owning. cheap, light, dry quickly, not stinky. Went 15 miles with 50 lb pack after dunking my foot in water on the first mile with no blisters. Eliminates need for liners or thicker materials.

AFTER 1 YEAR: as with most merino products, the breathability and warmth for weight are unbeatable, but the durability is lacking. Both pair have acquired holes/thinned out material. This is par for the course for any merino product.

Nice Socks!!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These are really nice socks. Not too thick,Comfortable hiking and climbing(yes I do wear socks with my climbing shoes), Bit worried
about the wear and tear, notice alot of built up fibers after my first use. Soft, feels good, and cool on hot days.

Nice socks, but a bit tight in upper portion.

I bought 2 pairs of the black and 2 pairs of the white. I'm an 11 men's and I bought the large. The socks feel great but the calf portion is a bit snug, and I have very thin legs for a guy. Not a bad buy though....l

I got these socks for my husband and he is getting really bad rashes on top of foot and right above the sock line. Anyone has same experience? He doesn't have any allergies that we know of. This is the first of kind he experienced so we are puzzled.

Responded on

I have used these socks on some long hikes and around town for a while and had no issues. Maybe he has an allergy to sheep?

Great multipurpose socks

My last hike I used these over a thin liner sock (http://www.backcountry.com/smartwool-hiking-liner-crew-sock). After a 7 mile grind up a 7% grade carrying a 45# pack I had zero blisters. We then went down hill at an even steeper grade for a few miles. Zero blisters. They're not super thick like some of the socks which makes them work quite well with a liner sock.

I've also been wearing these as I've been training for a GoRuck Challenge, doing lots of train running combined with lunges and calisthenics, all packing between 10# and 35#. I've got several pairs of socks I've used; the Salomons are the best but these Stoics are half the price and a run close second. To wit, I've just ordered several more pair instead of the Salomons.

FIL Loves them

Got these as a gift for my Father In Law and he called asking me to get him 6 more pairs. They look great, he said that they fit really well and are breathable.
