Warm enough for late winter and early spring, but light enough to prevent overheating.

If spring hasn’t quite set in, you’ll appreciate the breathability and warmth that comes from the extremely lightweight Stoic Women’s Merino Full-Length Bottom. Not only warm, the natural merino wool fibers also resist odor and evaporate moisture as you sweat. The Y-Elastic stitch technique makes a smooth, extremely comfortable seam at the waist, which means less discomfort when you wear a pack

    Best baselayer EVER

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Love, love LOVE this baselayer. SUPER comfy, even after wearing them days and days on end. Stretchy, with a great cut (plenty of room in the waist and bottom, which I've had problems with on IceBreaker and SmartWool baselayers), and fits fantastically under jeans or hiking pants. VERY warm for the weight, but never feels stuffy.

Way better than my other base layers!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

-I was kinda weary on the size but I got a size Small and they fit well! They are tad long like most bottoms on me but they scrunch up so it is fine. They fit good in the waist and butt. They do have some stitching on the butt though which isn't super sexy but HEY! I wear them under my board pants.
    - I am about 120lbs and 5'0ft.
-The color Taupe is awesome. I don't have any pants that color.
    - At first I thought they were not going to be very warm because they feel thin, I was wrong. They are made of wool so they keep you warm whereever you are!
-My boyfriend even got a pair too and he loves them.
-Stoic is a great brand! They have awesome socks too.

    A New Favorite

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

How I love Merino clothing. Once I put these on, I didn't want to take them off. They do run a bit large, but sizing down fixed that issue for me. Form fitting, but not too snug, with extra length at the ankles. The waist band is high so your lower back won't be exposed. I plan to use them as a second layer for winter biking, playing in the snow with the kids, pajamas and lounging.
Merino is soft and smooth, never itchy. If they do get small holes you can stitch them before they expand. The printed tag is coming off already, but I don't see that as much of a problem.
I may have to get another pair!

    Merino Wool Done Right :)

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

When I wear this at the waist, I don't deal with any comfortability issues or have any sagging anywhere. It is quite thin. However, with constant wear, anything will rip or tear (see bellow). I have a pair of under armor base layer leggings that I've had for 11 years now. There are two small tears in them, but they still hold up, incredibly well.

    Size down for sure

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: L

I ordered these as a lighter thermal layer right before leaving for a trip, so I decided to keep them despite their undeniable bagginess ("diaper butt" below sums it up.) Apart from being too big when ordered in my regular size, I actually liked these leggings a lot - they're a nice weight, quality material, and an awesome length for me. I'll probably order a second pair in a smaller size!)

    Runs Large

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large

I would have loved to have kept these tights - they're soft, warm, and the burnt orange is an awesome color. Unfortunately, these tights run a bit large. For reference, the Stoic Thrive Spark Tights in the same size fit perfect. These seemed like they were designed for someone with really long thighs - when I hiked the tights up a couple inches over the thighs, they were perfect... but that would have caused an uncomfortable bulge under any pants I wanted to wear them with.

    diaper butt

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

The back side of these are just awful - not flattering, and feel like diaper butt. Otherwise, if you don't mind lose fabric over your behind, they are warm and feel nice to the touch.... I only wear them under snow pants because the butt looks and feels hilarious.

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: M

I bought this because it was on sale and a good product, from other reviews. I am so glad I bought these!! really thin, fit under my jeans when off the mountain. I'm 5'6

    Super comfy

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large

I got these as my RTW trip leggings/sleep bottoms/long underwear. Ordered L since that's all they had in black.
They looked more technical in the pics and I was worried about the wide waistband, but it's really really comfy. Surprised a large fits me well but I guess I prefer things not to be super tight.
Length is perfect for me as I have 32" inseam.

    Lightweight Warmth

These are an awesome merino layer! I wear them by themselves casually as a pair of leggings, as well as a layer up for skiing. My snowpants are not insulated, only fleece-lined through the bum, and these make for a perfect pairing. They are not very thick, but are still toasty. I overheat easily, so these are quite perfect- breath well, wick moisture, and help to keep me warm on the cold days.

As far as fit goes, I am 5'2 120lbs and I picked up the Small. They are long on me, but I make them work. Throughout the waist they are a tad large- not super tight, but they do stay in place. They are slim through the legs, but not skintight. Definitely recommend!

      Very light weight, but warm

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: Runs large

I bought these for a snow boarding trip where the forecast was below 0. They kept me plenty warm with just a pair of insulated snow pants over them. They're very lightweight and feel a bit on the delicate side, but I haven't had any tears yet.

They're pretty thin and a little see-through if you intend to wear them as an outerlayer, you'll need a tunic or skirt over them. They also run a bit large, the XS are pretty long and a bit loose on me (5"2, 105lbs) but it's not a problem.

Fit wonderfully for a tall gal

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought these for my 5'11" friend who always struggles to find (any) pants that will fit in length and these made the cut! She purchased these in size medium. They fit great and stretch to fit around her booty as well! Highly recommended!

      Favorite base layer pants!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Super warm and comfy. These are my new favorite pants for winter climbing, camping, or just lounging around when I'm cold. I'm 5'6 and 130 and ordered a size small which is PERFECT. They do run a tiny bit larger than other brands (smartwool) but I prefer this because they never feel tight around the waist. Also, they are definitely long and will scrunch up a bit around the ankle but that is so much better than being too short.

I have fairly muscular legs and wide hips but a smallish waist (25-26") and I know that I wouldn't be comfortable in an XS. The waistband sits lower on the hips and I hate when elastic bands create muffin-top. But if you have slim legs and narrow hips I would go with an XS. Hope this helps!

      So Warm!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

By far, my most worn thermals. Breathable, warm, and easy to move in. Even on warm spring days these are my go to thermals, as they are warm but not too warm wear you feel you have just too much on.

      Stoic Merino bottoms (200)

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

Purchased on clearance along with a couple different wool top base layers and worn one season. I ordered a medium which was slightly large (I am 5ft 10 in, 140 lbs). Since they were on clearance, smalls were not available. I loved the long length, comfort, and wool material. I washed in cold water and hung to dry every few uses. I LOVED them and was ready to order more. Then, I got a run in one leg. I thought i snagged it with a nail, so resolved to be more careful. Then, it started ripping in other spots when pulling up. I am so disappointed that these have worn so quickly - it's almost like they are dry-rotting; I have 20-year old Columbia long johns in better condition. Will have to try another brand in the future. Just glad I didn't pay full price for these!

Nice red color, but runs large

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
      • Fit: Runs large

I ordered these in the Oxblood color, size large (I wear a large in Patagonia, The North Face, & Icebreaker leggings). The color was a really pretty red, but they were so big! The waistband fit ok but the thighs and knees were baggy. By the time I went back to order a medium in the oxblood color, they were gone. Shucks.

Very long & not the quality expected

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: Runs large

I'm not tall, but at 5'2" size medium is way too long. Regardless I've been making them work until today when I punched a hole right through them just by pulling them up - which has to be done all the time. I was expecting better quality and will invest in different brands of merino products next time.

      <3 Perfect Fit & Perfectly Warm <3

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

Bought in 2012, so mine are a year old & still like new.

I wear these under anything - except skinny jeans. They are not bulky, yet they are warm; they do not cause overheating when I am inside or in a car. I have often worn them under Gap or White House Black Market Blanc slim jean with absolutely no bunching, twisting, pinching, folding, riding up - nothing uncomfortable. In fact, I often forget that I am wearing them. I haven't worn my sweat inducing Land's End silk long underwear since I got these. I have happily divested myself of all of cotton & other long underwear.

I wash them after each wear in the washing machine w/ Tide & anything dark other than jeans then hang them to dry. They have accidentally been machine dried once or twice to my horror, however they barely shrunk!

One of my favorite aspects is the length: they are long enough to keep over my heels as I put on my outer pants & then slip up under the pant leg.

These are my most beloved winter staple.

      Lifesaver for a busy mom

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: Runs large

These are the greatest thing in my wardrobe; I now own three black pairs, plus grey and red, because I wear them almost daily. I don't use them as a technical baselayer, though I'm sure they'd be great for that. I wear them as tights with dresses and boots. I go to grad school full time, I have two little kids, and I live in the northeast where it's cold -- these things are a time-saving wardrobe lifesaver. They do run large; I have a 33" waist and the larges gape at the waist for me. Also, I'm 5'8" and I have to fold up the cuff a good 3"; they're nice and long. They are soft, they keep their shape after (many) consecutive days of wear, and they are warm enough outdoors without being too hot indoors. They wash and hang dry beautifully and don't run or tear. I only wish they came in more colors.

what soap or cleanser do I use to clean these

Can anyone tell me how high the waist hits?...

Can anyone tell me how high the waist hits? I have a large posterior and some of the wool bottoms that I have purchased have a tendancy to ride down in back. It makes for very odd looking panty lines!

So... I like to have long undies that go...

So... I like to have long undies that go up kinda high so I don't get any snow down my pants (yeah.. I am admitting I sometimes get snow in my pants). Are these high enough to tuck a shirt into?

Also- warmth rating? Would you wear these on the coldest days out on the mountain?

No worries...I bif it enough still that I get snow in my pants sometimes too. These aren't particularly high enough to dodge that...I tuck shirts in too but they manage to work their way out occasionally. I wear these with a warm pair of Burton Fly pants and my legs are never cold, and Japan's been one big blizzard this year. They're also just super comfy, IMHO.
