If you spend as much time in ski boots as street shoes, you can appreciate the shortened Stoic Women's Merino 3/4-Length Bottom. Primarily made of odor-controlling, highly breathable natural merino wool, Stoic added spandex to promote comfort and mobility during high-octane activity. The Y-Elastic stitch technique makes a smooth, extremely comfortable seam at the waist and flat-stitch seams reduce rubbing.

Bottom Line: You've got socks to cover your foot and lower leg-the Stoic 3/4-Length Merino Bottom covers the rest.
These are great for ski thermals, boot cut. They do run a tad big, and after just a use, were stretched out enough that I have to wash them again. I've also used them for home workouts and they worked great (pretty sure I wouldn't wear them out to the gym for all to see). They are a great weight, which is my favorite part of these pants. Perfect for wearing under any ski pants to regulate body temp.
I love 3/4 bottoms for skiing, they're perfect mid layers as I hate having crap in my boot or stuff scrunched up on my calf. The quality of these is top-notch, the merino is soft, stretchy, supportive, all around great.
Fit is good and true to size at the waist for me (usually a women's M, 30" waist ~37" hip), but the leg length length is a little bit short. As shown on the model in the picture it really does fit just below the knee. If you're bending your knee a lot (either free-heel or climbing) they tend to ride up a bit and allow a gap above your ski socks. I usually use smartwool ski socks and they are pretty long, but not knee length. It's not that big an issue, it would just be nice if they were ~2" longer.
3/4 length is definitely the way to go for skiing. I was always just pulling up pants legs and the bunch would sit somewhere between the knee and the boot top. Great length. I like that Stoic put a wide waist band on these. For some reason a lot of companies put thinner waist bands on women's long underwear than they do on their men's long underwear. The wool is super soft and stretchy. I am planning on buying another pair soon.

Not many brands sell a 3/4 length bottom anymore, so I'm glad to see Stoic does! This winter so far I have been wearing these pants an embarrassing amount. I wear them to work under my work-pants (I work outside occasionally), under my running pants, skiing (solo or on extra cold days as an added layer), to bed, and just walking around my house. They are comfortable, have a great fit, and they're merino! I just wish I had gotten two pairs...
I wear a small in everything and these were saggy in the back. I also didn't like the feel of the stitching down the back and the Sugilite/Shale was see-through. I sent them back.
Fit is superb (true to size and not too tight at the calves, plenty of room for the skiier's/cyclist's badonk and thunder thighs), length is great for ski and mountaineering socks (no more weird layer bunching under boots), and they are warm and soft. Not at all scratchy, merino wool is my new favorite fiber for every piece of clothing.
The length is, as others have mentioned, closer to a 5/8 length (the top of the cuff hits right below my knees), but this is a good thing as they don't really have anywhere to go when I'm being active.
I was not pleased as the bottoms developed a whole after one washings. Backcountry would not replace the bottom. I have to send them back for a refund and pay for the mailing.
Love the 3/4 length. Perfect for skiing, I can not stand when pants are down in my boots. They are very warm and extremely comfortable. I love the wide band on them. I wouldn't recommend them for wearing alone as they truly look like long underwear. I usually wear a medium in everything and these are a bit big but not too bad, I would buy a medium again. I will definitely be buying more, worth every single penny!
Merino wool product that is perfect for running, yoga, etc. and fine to wear as an outer layer in moderate temps. Runs about a size large. I typically wear a large and ordered these in a large in full length and they are quite loose but elastic band works and the feel is too good to return. Ordered in a medium this time in the 3/4 length and they fit perfect. Very comfortable and great value.
I love these guys. I bought them on SAC on a whim, and I probably didn't need them; I don't ski or do much cool stuff outside, unless you count running. Luckily, these tights are amazingly versatile. I wear them pretty much everywhere--alone on runs, under my clothes when it's super cold outside, to the gym, to bed, etc. They haven't pilled very much either, considering how much I wear them. And because they're merino, it seems like they hardly ever need washing. I wish I'd bought more than one pair! My only comment to stoic/BC would be to bring back the black ones--I think they look less underwear-y as another reviewer mentioned.
The most breathable, comfortable pants EVER. I wore these just today for a lake clean-up project in town, and not only did they keep my bottom half cool and sweat-free, but they dried quickly when they got splashed at the shore. Very comfortable, though I do wish that the elastic waistband was covered . . . . . but it doesn't even matter. These are my new favorites!
I had ordered the Stoic 3/4 length Merino bottoms for a trial kayak trip in the Northwest Coast, and was really pleased with the comfort of these guys! I had mistakenly ordered 2 pairs, and lent the extra to one of my like sized buddies, who handed over her greenbacks at the end of the day--another convert! We both are 5'6", and about 125 pounds, and decided that we could have used the small instead of the medium, but were satisfied overall. These were on sale, and the price was fair. I would definitely recommend this product.
I love the fit, I am 5'7", 145lbs(?), athletic build and the M is good, not tight but close to the body, fits low on the waist but not super low. They are incredibly soft, even softer than icebreaker. My only reservations are that I wish the elastic top was covered with fabric...it's softer than a normal elastic, still I wonder if it would be more durable over time covered. Also, the contrast stitching is cute, but makes these bottoms look more like underwear. I plan to wear these for running and hiking, they will be perfect for me for these functions, so I wish they looked a little more "outerwear".
These were made as a baselayer for skiing, but I wear them alone for climbing outside, in hot yoga classes, and for hot summer hikes. They do a great job wicking, and are very breathable. They're bigger than I expected in the butt and waist, but I actually like that they don't ride up to my armpits when I'm moving around. I've worn them through multiple hot yoga classes, and there's never any stink.
Looking forward to trying them out as a baselayer when the weather cools down.
Although I fit the Stoic Tour Softshell Pant - Women's in a Medium, these long johns had an ideal fit in a Small. My hips: 38", waist: 32", and inseam 33" (height 5'7). The mediums could have worked, but they didn't have the 'cling' I prefer in long johns. I'm trying to move away from full length long johns for skiing, but the 3/4 length models are still all very expensive ... except for these! They come just below the knee, above the calf. I think they're long enough to be held in place with knee socks, but they'd have to be long knee socks to work for me.
Like the material but haven't worn them enough to see about durability of the wool. Seems my other wool brands get holes very easily. Definitely runs big through the waist. Need long ski socks to keep them from riding up but that's no problem for me.
looks like I don't even need to tell you how great these 3/4 length bottoms are because everyone else on the page has said it. All I have to say is that the 2011/2012 model run true to size & the elastic isn't too tight or too loose. Perfect for slaying the slopes then lounging around the house afterwards. I would like 20 pairs of these please.
