With its soft, naturally odor-resistant 17.5-micron Merino wool knit and \\275 neck zip, the Stoic Merino Bliss 150 Shirt covers you in functional comfort, minus the synthetic funk factor. Stoic made this next-to-skin top with ridiculously comfortable New Zealand Merino, rub-reducing flat-locked seams and side panels, and a body-heat venting \\275 chest zip so you can blow off some steam after a mean summit push or a tricky boulder problem. Merino wool transfers moisture while your sweat is in its primary vapor form, so unlike most synthetic fabrics the Merino Bliss Shirt begins to pull moisture away from your body before your shirt becomes saturated. And since wet usually means cold in the backcountry, warm Merino is the way to go. Stash your lip balm, energy gel, or other small items in the Bliss Top's zippered chest pocket for safe keeping while you're on the go. A reflective logo hit on the Merino Bliss Top's collar ensures a little more safety during your evening runs, and the thumbholes at the cuffs take the bunch out of layering.

Bottom Line: Functional comfort, minus the synthetic funk factor.
Best long underwire out there. I really like smartwool stuff too but the thumb holes on this one push it over the top. I also like the zipper. Helps to shed heat on the way up and zip it up on the way down. Can't think of anything else I need.
There is no material better for an underlayer than merino wool. This top is lightweight and breathable for hiking or touring in warmer temps. When covered with a shell it will keep you just as warm as any other underlayer. My favorite part about this top is that you can wear it for multiple days on end without it developing a terrible stench like polypro.
This baselayer keeps you warm without overheating and has all the nice qualities of Merino Wool. Lightweight material wicks moisture and has a soft feel to it. Has a thumbhole but I rarely use them.
The only issue I have had is the color faded faster than it should have.

You're about 2cm taller and 4kg lighter than me. The large fits me like a tight t-shirt, but not quite skin tight. You'd probably be swimming in an XL.
The shirt won't shrink if you follow washing instructions. Just keep it far, far away from the dryer.
5'10", 42" chest, 34" sleeves, and a large fits me like a normal t-shirt. I probably could have done a medium if I wanted a really close fit, but this one is fine. The sleeves are the right length for me to take advantage of the thumbholes. And, it has thumbholes!
Will the small size still be next-to-skin if I'm 5'8 and 125lbs? It doesn't seem like it from what I gather.
The photos don't look very tight at all so this is a concern for me- I don't like loose fit.
I read a review below by wordsofglass and he says the small has baggy arms for him and he is a bit larger than I am.
Any other suggestions for Merino baselayer appreciated, especially with long sleeves that cover some of the hand. It would be nice not to have to resort to Womens's size.
So merino is probably my favorite base layer material out there, and this is more proof of why. You get what you pay for here, a super functional top. It doesn't hold smell, or moisture. It wicks dry SO quickly, and if you get a little warm, zip open the chest and heat blows right out. I've said it before, sheep are lucky.
Love me some Merino. I picked this up with the stoic 40% off promotion. I fell in love, I will likely be purchasing at least one more at full price. Lightweight, breathable, warm, and cozy. Nothing wrong with this shirt at all. Make sure you size it up properly, I wear a large mens T shirt I bought a small in this and it fits just right, so make sure you do your measurements and get a size that fits good. A++++ product.
This shirt is nice, but I just don't see how it is worth $20 more than the Stoic merino crew shirt. In fact, because the fabric is super-lightweight, I think the zippers make this feel less durable than the crew shirt. At the moment, I have one of each (crew, bliss), but on future purchases I'll save the $20 and just go with the crew.
You have a really good point! Picked up my Merino Bliss from SAC so I'm to bummed about the cost savings.
The extra zipper is really nice for dumping heat. Even thought the fabric is thin its a good insulator so unzipping helps. Also, the little chest pocket is a nice touch, but as Eric points out, not worth 20 extra bones.
i also have both shirts. i think the zippers are worth the price for the extra flexibility. being able to to dump a bunch of heat in the middle of a pitch is pretty important, and you can zip back up when you are anchored and on belay. can't do that with a crew neck.
I have about 5 icebreaker shirts and love them. This shirt is even better. All the properties you come to expect from merino but with a better cut(longer through the body) and cheaper than icebreaker. The zipper is great for dumping heat on the gondola ride, and the thumb holes are the best i have ever seen. I am six foot even and weigh 165lbs and the med fits like it was made for me. You will not be disappointed with this shirt.
Ok, so I know it's 17.5 micron, which tells me how soft it is, but anybody know the material weight (gm/m) and total garment weight (say, for a men's medium)? Thanks, sorry if I just missed it somewhere.
Simply based on wearing it once around the house, I can tell I'm really going to like this shirt. It is pretty thin, so I'm thinking it would be suitable for early fall runs here in MN, or as a great base layer for other cool weather activities. I'm about 5'11", 200lb, wear a 32/33 slim fit dress shirt with a 17.5" neck and the large fits me fairly loose. Not sure I'd return it for a medium. Hope this helps!
This is another solid product from stoic except for it's thickness or rather it's lack there of. In the gray/off-white color it is actually see through which is a problem if you're not wearing something under. not a huge deak but if it is supposed to be a base layer it could stand to be a shade thicker.
i'm 6'1" 180 and the large fits me perfectly. I'm a bit long and lanky, and i think BC makes clothes for lanky people, so the arm length is just fine. I love the thumb holes on chilly runs, and if i'm not using them, i just fold them up so they don't ride down my wrist. the zipper is excellent for dumping heat, and the material is super soft and comfy. for me, the shirt is really warm, and i can climb in 55 degree weather without being cold at all. this is a great piece, and a steal when it comes up on SAC.
I have the Bliss short sleeve and it comes in solid colors, I have a charcoal shirt and I love it. Are we going to see this shirt offered in some solid colors sometime? I just can't get into the multi-color thing that this shirt has going on but I would love to have a couple of long sleeved Bliss shirts, the short sleeved one I have rocks.
Good fit, great stretchy soft wool. No smell. Excellent value too. Backcountry.com's nailed it with this one. I'm 6', 180 lbs and the medium is a form fitting baselayer thanks to the spankdex.
I had the old backcountry.com version of this shirt and freakin' loved it. Wore holes through the elbows and wore out the thumb loops. This new version has sleeves that are at least 3" too long and a little bit baggier than previously (the body fits about the same as before, but the sleeves are just wrong). Made in Canada if that's enough of a bonus for someone to excuse the poor proportions. I tried to shrink it in the drier, but ended up sending it back. I'm 5'10" and 145 lbs and wearing size small if that helps anyone...
I would have given the shirt 5 stars if the arms were not so long. The body fits well, nice and slim, but a tad long. The arm pits are a little tight, but they stretch out easy. The arms are really long, 2" too long, even with the thumbholes. I used it twice now, in 30* weather, with a MHW transition pullover and was perfectly comfortable. The wool breathes well and helps regulate body temperature, and no stink! I like the thickness of the wool as well. I've tried patagonia wool 2 and my 'nips' showed right through the shirt. No such problems here. Over all, I really like the shirt, though I may get the arms hemmed to a better length.
I got this shirt for my husband for Christmas. He loves it! Some times its hard to get him to let me wash it! The sleeves are extra long which is awesome as he has long arms; a lot of stuff is short on him. He is also hard on things and this shirt holds up great. It still looks like new after a ton of washing I just never put it in the dryer.
is BC.com/Stoic thinking of making a hooded version of this anytime soon? I think that would be a perfect garment for the majority of conditions in which folks do stuff outdoors. I'd probably buy 2!
Cutter (Backcountry's in-house cycling brand) makes a hooded merino top. I use the long sleeve version when skiing. It appears that they only sell a short sleeve now.
All day long I'd buy this shirt for 20$. I'm wearing one of these slick guns right now and typing thru the thumb holes. I just wish I had known it was gonna be so cheap because I bought it back at 28$ on SAC and now here it is for 19.99. Crazy good deal. Love this shirt and looking forward to having it in blue.
After purchasing two of these long sleeve "merino bliss" shirts I added two short sleeve "bliss" shirts to my wardrobe. Between the four, I wear them all of the time as a base layer, to work out in and to live in. These are simply great: very little odor even after multiple days of wear, comfortable and fashionable. A friend had me order two Stoic 150 bliss shirts for her son as a gift and he too loves them. Stoic is a great brand: quality fabric and stitching. I'm 5'10" and 150 pounds, athletic build and the small size fits snug but is still comfortable. The medium fit my friends son who about the same size, so either would work. I love the thumb loops to keep hands warm when gloves aren't needed.
Let me start by saying that I f-bombing love Stoic. I ordered one of these babies knowing that I'll only need one Long-Sleeve on my upcoming round the world tour (Catch me in a city near you...just kidding, but seriously.)
All the five-star reviews are spot on, but I can tell one thing about each of the reviewers: Mike, Arthur, Dave and Jake are beardless...or if they aren't they have some sort of teflon coated facial hair that I envy like they most likely envy my mountain-man ruggedness.
I would rate these as five-star, promise bc.com my first born, (it'll be a rad little grom, I promise) drive the 10 minutes it takes to get from this keyboard to the warehouse and kiss the first bearded employee I gazed upon if they only made one little addition:
You guessed it - zipper garage. Hell, I may even patent a zipper carport, and give 'em away free to all the other beardos out there so we can live in pain-free Bieberesque Nirvana like you.
Come to think of it. Maybe I'll just shave and give it an extra star. My mom (and maybe yours) thanks you.
(I'm 5'11" 165# and love the Medium. It's tight enough to rock underneath all my other Stoic gear, but loose enough in the midsection that I don't feel so bad about spending more days this winter at the Beerhive than the Bird - seriously this Wasatch winter blows so far...)
Does the "Black/ Red/ White" look as much like Spiderman in real life as it does on the web? Are people comfortable wearing the shirt in situations where they'd be able to wear a different color? I know it's a base layer, but the shirt being so thin and wicking so well, it'd be a great only layer in the summer, too...
spiderman spiderman does whatever a spider can! If anything it will just help you out with your ability to get it done! Solid choice for an underlayer and a only layer for summer.
You are going to have a bit of spiderman steez going on with this shirt, but it may just give you that extra push to make things happen. seriously though, the pictures do the colors justice.
wow, this is a great shirt. i'm tall (2m) with kinda long arms, and a long but narrow torso. this shirt fits perfect, it's kinda uncanny how well it fits. the arms are longer than the non-merino version of this, and so is the body (good for me!). the cut is very nice, and the weight of wool feels just about right. it, like wool in general, holds off stinky (unlike the stinky non-merino version, which stinks like crazy!!). the zipper goes way down, much further than most "quarter zip" shirts, which is surprisingly nice.
compared to a smartwool NTS microweight that i got at the same time? the smartwool seems to be of higher quality; it just looks better, and feels nicer against the skin. the smartwool also has a long body, though somewhat shorter arms (a bit shorter still than the non-merino version of the stoic long-sleeve).
the thumb loops are kinda gimmicky, but i have chronic cold hands, so it is nice. since the arms are so long, the loops actually work for me. with the non-merino version, with it's somewhat shorter arms (still long, though), the loops aren't as helpful.
Merino wool is fantastic - this shirt wicks well, is soft and is great for layering. The sleeve length is perfect - I am 6' 180# and I normally wear an XL in other items just to get the body and sleeve length, but this shirt in a Large covers it well. The thumb holes work great, keeping your shirt sleeves into place while wearing gloves and driving tools above your head. The lighter color does stain pretty easily, but who cares - it looks like you were doing something and have a mark to show for it. I'll always take this on my climbs!
I love this top!!! Super comfortable, nice and light and NO STINK!!! Get the matching bottoms and you'll be stink free!!! Some people have complained about the selves and thumb holes, but they are perfect for me, wish all tops were made like this!!! I'm 6ft, 160lbs and the medium fits great!!!! ( I live in SLC and tried on the S, M & L @ the Backcountry retail store)
This piece is very lightweight, if that's what you want, go for it. My feeling is go light on any base, and use the layers above it for insulation. I stay super dry in this. I have owned several Smart Wool and Icebreaker tops, and this is way better. The flat seams are way more comfortable than I.b. and the cost is lower to boot. I'm between sizes, my shoulders fit in a M, but the sleeves are a tad long for me. 5'9'' 144 lbs. This is my 7th Backcountry/Stoic piece, and I love every one of them.
If you haven't tried a merino wool baselayer yet, do yourself (+ friends) an odor saving, washing machine, softness favor + give it a go. Stoic bliss isnt a bad place to start if you want a zip top. The 1/2 zip is great to cool you down quick, or leave it zipped to keep your neck warmer + let the temperature regulating properties of merino wool go to work. Sweat, roll around in snow, stand around - Merino doesnt care, it wicks, insulates wet, + comes out smelling like a daisy.
This shirt in particular is finely designed, crafted, + assembled - soft, lightweight wool (sufficient weight if under shell in the cold if moving) flatlock seams, a zippered pocket, athletic fit + sleeves with thumbs holes. The only downside I see is the arms are a little long (like many stoic items).
I am 5'11" 165 + athletic - the medium fits pretty good.
Love this shirt, and am in the market for a few more! I'm 6'1", 175lbs, and the cut is perfect for me. I have a +2 ape index (wingspan is 2" greater than my height), so I do have longer-than-normal arms. It's usually really hard to find things that fit me. If it fits in the arms, the rest of it is like a dress. If it fits my body, the sleeves are too short. NOT THE CASE WITH THIS SHIRT! This thing is made for guys with long arms and slim bodies. Plus it holds of the stank way better than my Marmot base layer.
This is a great product. I'm 6'1" 200#s with really long arms. The large fits me almost perfectly. I can see how if you had T-Rex arms this is not the product for you, but if you are like me and sick of sleeves coming up short or having to size up. This is your answer. The material is really soft and keeps me plenty warm.
I also have an Underarmour base layer. They both work well, but the UA is odoriferous by the end of the day, but the Stoic I feel I could keep it on for dinner and not offend anyone within a 5 table radius.
Nice long sleeve Merino wool shirt. Is SUPER thin and seems like there is NO way it could keep you warm. But it does a pretty decent job at keeping in some warmth when it's cool out. It's not warm per say, but if your moving and active, it will keep you warm if it's cool out, and makes a great base layer. Super long sleeves and body is pretty long as well. I'm extremely tall by the way, so most shirts and jackets are not long enough, this is almost TOO long in the L size, but body fits snug and looks great. Overall a nice piece of clothing.
Great first layer... I wouldn't say it was altogether that warm, then again I was skiing in single digit highs all week. I wouldn't wear it around town too thin and trim; I have a 40" chest, 165#, got a medium. under the Patagonia down sweater I wasn't warm enough in the upper 20s low 30s. Wore it to the gym... too warm. Sleeves fit fine... bit long unless you use the thumb holes. Best? After 5 consecutive ski days threw it in my bag, pulled it out 2 days later... it smelled good, I mean GOOD. goodbye synthetics
What are people's experiences with this top in terms of layering. Is this top fine for nordic skiing at 20F? Is it only a baselayer and should have a top layer when it gets below a certain point? What are your thoughts?
I think you'd be ok in this thing for nordic in 20°F weather, as long as you keep moving. I sweat like crazy when exerting myself, even in cold weather. On a skin track, I strip down to the Bliss and some light gloves down to 10°F. If you get chilly, toss a windshirt over the top. Just be sure to layer up when you stop.
EDIT: Wow. Going around answering old questions today. Sorry!
This is the quintessential layering piece. Whether you use it as a base layer, midlayer, outer layer, or the only layer depends entirely on conditions and activity. When backpacking, I wear it as an outer layer over an ultralight merino base. This arrangement is good down below freezing as long as you stay active. Warmer layers go on top once I reach camp. For higher speed activities (biking, skiing), I like to have an outer layer that blocks the wind. Check out the rime and shift softshells. With these outer layers, it is sometimes too warm to keep the midweight merino, so i wear the softshell over the ultralight merino. If it is cold enough, i will wear all three layers. They key to layering is to have many different combinations available. For me, more often than not, this shirt is in my layering equation. But to answer your question more directly, this shirt alone will probably not be warm enough by itself for 20F nordic skiing.
This shirt was very popular when I busted it out last week. Very soft and thin, and fits snuggly like a base layer should. I am 6'5" and 180 lbs, and the L fits me very well. The thumbholes are nice to have, and the zippered collar makes it very versatile. The color scheme makes it look kind of a like a rash guard which isn't that great but, hey, its a base layer. I wouldn't mind having six of 'em. My mom and brother both want one now.
Merino wool is the best! The Stoic Bliss long sleeve is a great base layer. I really like the long zipper that makes it easy to cool down on a hike or extra long pow run. I consider myself to have pretty long arms, but even still the arms are a little long. I'm 6'2" 175lbs and have a medium. Torso length is about right, but the arms are a little too long. I really like the thumb holes on the sleeves which give a little extra warmth when not wearing my gloves. I haven't had a need for the pocket yet as I usually am wearing something else with better pockets...
This shirt was my first dive into merino wear and I have not been disappointed. True to all the hype about merino wool this shirt wicks away sweat like no one else's business. But that is not the only reason I love the shirt so much. The combination of a 1/2 zip neck and thumbholes offer the wearer comfort in a wide range of temperatures. When I walk in from the cold I simply roll the thumbhole section into the rest of my sleeve and unzip so I can adjust to the temperature. This is also great if when I going from a cold start to intense workout so I don't need to be ripping off layers as I heat up. I am 5'7" ~150lbs, athletic build, and fit well into a small. The shirt is soft against my skin. Not much could fit underneath because it is skin tight and I have felt warmer when I don't wear anything underneath it so that the merino can do its job! My only gripe with this shirt is wearing it climbing I got a hole in it without noticeably grazing it. Many of you may say well no sh*t, it is thin merino, but just fyi.
Merino wool is the bomb. material finds a way to keep you in a balanced state of hemostasis, no matter if your skating up your project boulder or sitting at the library writing your thesis. got this top in a M (6'1'' 170lbs) and it has a great fit. very retro look with the chest zipper traveling all the way down to your mid chest (show some of the that monkey patch!). lost a star because the white shows your nips:/
I have worn this shirt about a dozen times so far; washed it a couple of times... On the plus side - the shirt is (a) quite warm, (b) wicks well (I sweat a lot while bicycling or snow-shoeing), and (c) doesn't smell bad even after half a dozen sweaty workouts. Minor reservations: (1) slightly itchy if you've got very sensitive skin like me, and (2) high maintenance washing required. To clarify... 1. My skin registers discomfort with fabrics that for most folks is 100% itch free. And the discomfort I feel is so minor that I'm able to completely disregard it most of the time; I'd rate it 1 or 2 on a 1 to 10 itch discomfort scale. 2. The garment tag on this shirt says "To maintain optimal performance, wash with Nikwax Wool Wash", and recommends frequent washing, and no machine drying. Nikwax Wool Wash is expensive and hard-to-find locally for me. (REI doesn't carry it; though they carry most other Nikwax products.) Also, hang-drying is inconvenient; especially if you live in a small apartment. After the last washing I made the mistake of drying this shirt on a thick plastic hanger in the shower, resulting in the fabric being pulled out-of-shape at the top. The shirt might regain its proper shape in time; we'll see.
I love my wool shirts but...I have an icebreaker and after a year or so, the wrist cuffs seem to be stretching out from pushing them up during trail runs once I warm up... Anyone have a longer-term durability review of the elastic in the sleaves of this woollie? AC
I really like this, it's my first venture into the merino wool base layer. It's warm, and fits well. The sleeve length is fine by me, and I love base layers with thumb holes! The pocket, IMHO, is totally unnecessary, and I wish it didn't have it. I'm 5'10" and 150lbs, and the small suits me well.
I try to wear it as much as I can. It doesn't smell bad and wicks moisture very well. Would def recommend it if you want something comfortable to wear out or when you are active.
Love this shirt, good deal, great for layering. Soft and comfortable, which is important because this is the layer you want against your skin. keeps you warm itch free. I use it for biking in Wisconsin and with just this, another layer over, and a wind layer i'm pretty much weatherproof in winter. The thumb hole is nice for ensuring a nice transition into your gloves but if you aren't using it, the sleeves are a bit long. The half-zip in the front is great for releasing the steam right after a hard workout or even when just coming inside from the cold. the chest pocket is great for the things you want to keep from frozen, clif bars, secure area for cell phone, whatever.
Great shirt, gotta love merino and attractive styling is a plus!
I may have the world's most sensitive skin and I've never been able to wear wool base layers. But I read how soft this is supposed to be and decided to give it a try when I saw it on sale on SAC.
I wore it running this morning when it was around 30. The shirt was awesome! I'm going to purchase another.
For the record, it's still a bit "itchy" on my skin, but I don't notice so long as I'm active.
The shirts are pretty similar, but the Stoic version is better in most ways. The collar is tighter, so you get less wind down the neck ( if you bike, row, or move quickly, this is a big deal ); also, the collar looks better folded down. The thumb holes are bigger, so you don't pull at the threading. The Stoic shirt is thinner, and a bit stretchier. But the easiest thing to notice is that it's softer.
this stoic bliss is a 17.5 micron which is softer hand, and even more comfortable, than the backcountry bliss of 18.8 micron. this material is the softest available, softer than smartwool, icebreaker. hell, its even softer than organic cotton!
This shirt is without a doubt my favorite piece of winter gear. The fit is fantastic, it's super warm, but dumps heat with the half zip. I practically live in this thing from November to about April. I own three, and may have to pick up another. And the chest pocket is a must have for all my winter shirts, perfect for a phone or camera.
I am female and bought the men's small because the women's were sold out in my size. The arms are LONG, but it doesn't bother me. I like the way it fits and it doesn't itch at all. It is soft against the skin. Very warm underlayer. I like Merino wool because it is naturally warm and doesn't hold body odor like synthetic fabric.
I have two of these. A medium black/red/white (my first order) and a large white/black/red (2nd order because it was on sale and no mediums were available). The material is amazing, I wear them both all the time. I'm 6'2" and lean with wide shoulders and long arms. The medium fits like some super hero top and it's just big enough but a little tight in the armpits, but the stretch helps, and surprisingly the arms are long enough, but again, I'm lean. To my surprise the large is perfect (I thought it would be too big), not bulky or boxy and still retains the fitted look and the length in the torso is perfect. My only complaint is that the white is not white, it's more of an "off white" or a beige and I've noticed this with other items on the site, like marketing is playing with photoshop and adjusting the bright/contrast so items pop more. I wish they would just represent true colors.
I've got one of these shirts, plus the 4 shortsleeve ones. They're great, it's amazing how well they suit the occasion you're wearing them for. Add a shell and they're warmer than my polypro unders, lose the shell and it's just as breathable as a regular Nike dry-fit type shirt.
Another grand Stoic design. Really dig the colors, except white - too susceptible to stains. Great design features - Love the thumb holes and extra long sleeves great zipper neck for quick heat release not sure if I'll ever use the chest pocket but good to have nice waist cut is lower in the back
I'm 5'7" @ 135lbs athletic build, ordered 2 in size small, its not skin tight on me but that might change after a warm washing.
My sentiments echo those of most previous reviewers. The fabric is fantastic. Merino wool is a wonderful, warm, comfortable base layer that won't develop odor issues like polypropylene. The dimensions of the garment, however, are a bit unusual. I'm 5'9", 150 pounds with an athletic build and a +2 ape index. I ordered the medium and it fits perfectly in all areas except for sleeve length; the thumb holes rest about two inches beyond my thumbs. I considered returning the product for a size small, but I suspect the fit may be too tight. Anyhow, it's a great garment but you may find your arms swimming in extra fabric. A bit of alteration should render this a perfect base layer.
Agree with many reviewers here, decent product-arms way too long. Made layering uncomfortable so I sent it back. Keep the Stoic gear coming; nice to have other options available.
The moment I put on this shirt I knew I had to get another one, it was so soft on the skin and comfy to wear that I tend to use them on a daily basis as well. (so I bought 2 more :-) I like the long sleeves with thumb holes but I also like the loooong zipper that makes it easier to let out some extra heat on warm days. I´d sure like to see carmen electra in this shirt with the zipper all the way down, no that would be hot...
I now have three of these shirts. I wear them all day on less cold days over my IceBreaker 200 t-shirts (under a shell when I'm outside.). I'm 6'3" and 170 and the medium is a nice, close fit. The sleeves are very long, but I have monkey arms so they're great for me. Highly recommended.
Nice midlayer shirt. I wear this on top of a sleeveless compression shirt and under my Stoic Bombshell Insulated Jacket. Keeps me nice and toasty. Definitely designed to fit snug, and the long arms are nice when you use the thumb holes.
The white is more like a cream and not a true white at all.
The fabric is nice, but the sleeves are a full 6" longer than my any of my IceBreaker shirts. I'm steering clear of Stoic until they design the arms for humans.
I've used the Merino Bliss shirt to ski in in the teens, and as the only thing on under my arc'teryx soft shell, I was still warm and comfortable with the wool as my only underlayer. I've also used it as my only underlayer while skiing in Tahoe in the 40's - breathability was great!! I wore it for 4 days of skiing in the same week and, as is expected for merino, it didn't retain my stench. Fantastic product, I plan on buying it in a few more colors. Love it, 5 stars. As far as sizing goes: I'm a muscular 6'2', 215 lbs, and the large fits perfect.
I know the last poster just stated that he's 6'2" and 215 lbs and that a large fit him well BUT I am a muscular 6'1" and 215 lbs and the XL does NOT fit unless I'm going to use it soley as a base layer. I would not feel comfortable wearing it in the lodge as it fits like an under armour tight fit product...not quite tight enough to show your abs but tight enough to see skin through it without anything underneath. I will be re-ordering the XXL. I wear a 44 athletic cut suit jacket for comparison. The product is comfortable and the zippers are easy to use although there isn't a zipper cover like some garments. When searching online for sizes, I checked their size chart and was between a "L" and an "XL". I actually IM'd with a backcountry rep and they recommended XL or XXL. I chose the XL and I was wrong. Just my opinion but I'd go for 1 size up if I planned to wear anything underneath.
Just got this as a gift for Christmas and used it as a baselayer for skiing. It is really soft and comfortable. It is very light and wicks great. The zipper is long, so you can regulate the temp if you get too hot. I would buy another, but I would probably prefer the crew (just my preference). Well done, BC/Stoic.
Just went for my first run in the Stoic Bliss. I live in the mountains of western Maine, and we have been having unusually warm weather for November. Was one of those perfect days: sunny, ~45 degrees, light wind. I generally run between 20 and 25 miles per week and I am so glad to have the Bliss as a new running companion. On those cool fall days, it is really all you need for your trunk and arms. Extended sleeves with thumbholes keep hands nice and toasty but may want light gloves for the fingers. I can see the Bliss shirt making a wonderful base layer for colder days as well. The chest pocket is perfect for holding a small mp3 player, a gel, a handkerchief, and/or a key...what-ever your needs may be. If you live in a warmer climate, such as the southeast, this may be the only shirt you'll need to get you through your winter runs. It wicks really well and is the perfect mix of warmth while also keeping you dry and refreshed. Try one for sure!!!
I am 6'0" and 180 the medium fits great. I always read about how well wool works and I 100% agree with it all. The merino wool is about the softest thing you'll ever feel. It wicks moisture away beyond expectations, and the best part of all is that it does not stink. I use this as a performance top at the gym and as a base layer for colder activities.
Compairing this to synthetic garments hands down I would pick this everytime. Save your self exta laudry by not having to wash stinkey close. Bottom line is that all my base layers will now be wool. Actually all my workout gear will now be wool too considering I will only have to wash them once a week. Hell I wish my armpit hair was made of this stuff!
Amazing baselayer that is light, breathable and extremely comfortable - no itching whatsoever. The merino is high quality and I am continually surprised by how warm I stay given thinness of the wool. Moisture wicks nicely and propensity to overheat is minimal. I am going to end up with a closet full of these shirts.
Great first layer. I wear this with a MHW fleece and my snowboarding jacket. The close to skin fit and merino wool really keeps my core warm and toasty, nice work Stoic!
Sizing: I normally wear an XL for tops in stoic and backcountry gear, even thought the sizing charts puts me in at a L. The XL for this seems larger than normal, perhaps its the extra 2 inches of sleeve length that made it feel like I was drowning. I am 6ft 3in, 200lbs with a 44in chest. I would say this is true to size with longer than normal sleeve lengths.
Colors: I went with the white/black color since it is more my style: traditional, plain, boring. Unfortunately the options with white in the chest are completely see through... Hello nipples!! I got this as a base layer that I would feel comfortable wearing stand alone as well. I wasn't comfortable in the color style I chose.
Quality: Awesome merino, High quality shirt.
I recommend this product. I will be returning my boring see-through XL for a darker color in a L.
My New Daily Ski shirt....I wear it everytime! The fabric on this is awesome after the first wash. The wools refuses to absorb odor, I pulled it out of the dirtys bin after being in there for four days and NO STINK. The fit is great, me: 6' 11' 178ish with a long torso and long arms. It fits perfect everywhere. No bagging under the arms, the cuffs have stretched a little though. Even on the coldest of the days I wear just this under my Stoic Welder HI softshell and feel awesome. It dries amazingly fast and like I said before NO STINK. I gave it four stars because the fabric can be sensitive as I have already shredded the cuff area by bumping it on the edges of my skis while throwing a quick edge on with a pocket sharpener. Other than that a 10 of 10!!
Merino is indeed just as good as everyone says it is. This is a nice lightweight piece from Stoic, and one may even say it is Bliss. It's just a nice as tops from SmartWool and Icebreaker. The arms are definitely on the longer side, but that's much better than too short and riding up. I'm not a huge fan of the zipper on this as it seems pretty stiff, but other than that I give it very high marks. The top is fitted, and is comparable in size to other brands.

Best long underwire out there. I really like smartwool stuff too but the thumb holes on this one push it over the top. I also like the zipper. Helps more...
There is no material better for an underlayer than merino wool. This top is lightweight and breathable for hiking or touring in warmer temps. When covered more...
