Tired off freezing at the end of the skin track? Say hello to your new best friend: the Stoic Luft Down Sweater. Lightweight, highly-compressible, and a god-send on top of frigid ridgelines, the Luft Down offers stow-able insulation for the coldest temperatures. Stoic insulated this on-the-go oven with 750-fill goose down in the main body ensuring optimal warmth despite the weather. Close-fitting and layer-friendly, the Luft Down Sweater wants to tag along on your next climb, tour, or shoulder season-backpacking trip. The Luft's super-light, slightly transparent shell material shows off its real goose down fill. If you're aiming to use the Luft Down as a layering piece go with a true-to-size fit, but if you're looking to layer over another jacket, you may want to consider sizing up.
My wife is 5'5", 115 lbs (fairly standard Asian girl frame) and I got the XS for her. When she tried it on, it looked like she was wearing something medium sized. It was so baggy on her that she said she felt like she could wear her other puffy down jacket underneath and still have some room. The sleeves were about 2" too long as well. Her notes on the positives: Construction seemed good. Very bright white and a nice contrasting neon pink trim. Felt warm when she tried it on. She really wanted to like it but the sizing was so off so we had to return it.
Great cut, very cute and feminine while being fully functional and warm. The arms are a great cut, allowing a full range of movement without restriction. Took this bad boy zip lining in Whistler in December - never even got close to cold - even when flying at 60 mph! Love this coat. Pockets are waaay better than the last seasons, which ran small.

Got this for my girlfriend, she loves it. She's got the North Face Thunder down vest, and this piece is definitely equal in quality/style. It's very light, feels like you have nothing on, but keeps you warm down into the 30 degree temps. Great for layering under a shell, or easily on its own. The shell is fairly substantial, it seems very durable whereas some light down sweaters' exterior material is like tissue paper. The cuffs have a nice feel to them as well. This fits true to size, but definitely on the "fitted" side, but the contours look sexy on females. She got the blue color, looks awesome, especially with the white contrasting zippers.
It is not, it is simply a ripstop nylon shell. Because Down loses all of its insulation when exposed to water, you'd need to be very careful to keep this jacket dry.
Okay, so I had been watching this jacket for a while since I got the stoic eVent stash shell. In the previous version of this jacket people complained about too small of pockets, too transparent and weak material that the feathers showed through. I don't see any of those problems in this new one!prosI wanted a down sweater that would be very warm, would fit nicely under my stash shell, and would be flattering. The stoic luft down sweater is all of these things and more! It's soft, light, warm, not too puffy, has big pockets, and feels durable. If anything happens that shouldn't, theres always stoic's lifetime warranty. The sleeves are nice and long which is great for a tall chica like me and I don't think the ends of the sleeves are too big. The medium fits me well, and I'm 5'10, 34-27-39. I probably cannot layer anything bulky under it, but with how warm it is I won't need to. But not only does it fit well, its also super cute! It is not too bulky, and is very figure flattering. I got the blue color and the white lining and white zippers are rad!consIf you are planning on wearing this under a shell, you will have to make sure its not too long. The medium does fit under the large stash shell well though. The only other thing to worry about is that the white lining may get dirty fast.I am pretty much in love with this jacket since I opened it and tried it on... and that says a lot since I have been looking at numerous down sweaters, none of them near as flattering/cute as this one. If only winter lasted forever!
This jacket is great, it has completely taken over all the rotation spots in my wardrobe, I wear it almost every day. It is so light and warm, that I hate to have to wear anything else!
I love the stoic merino base layers and the welder jackets, and really want to love all Stoic stuff, but I just couldn't hang on to this jacket.
Pros: super light super warm
Cons: Pink is SO bright, like neon- way too loud for me seams look like they may come apart on the inside quality of materials just isn't what it should be sleeves are short compared to some stoic stuff, and the cuffs on the wrists were too loose to keep any cold air out
I was choosing between this jacket, the North Face Thunder and the Marmot Venus and the North Face won. They were all similar warmths and prices, and the North face seemed like the best quality and fit me very well- plus I liked the fact that it has the water resistant DWR built into the fabric.
This was my first experience with an ultralight-type puffy -- very impressive. Between the high-quality down and the Pertex material, this jacket feels like nothing on, but is way warmer than my bulkier, lower-quality down jacket. I wear it on the slopes with my Arc'teryx Gamma MX softshell, and I'm feeling no cold, even in temps in the teens. My only comment about the design is that it does run fairly long - the bottom peeps out of the hem of the Gamma MX, which, as far as I can tell, is one of the longer softshells out there. Definitely wouldn't work to layer it with the Stoic softshell, which looks like it's cut fairly short.
