Love this jacket

By:
May 6, 2012

I got this jacket to function as a rain jacket in the summer and shell in the winter (but mainly for rain). I haven't had the opportunity to use it in a downpour, but I'm very happy with the fit and look.

Great backcountry coat!

By:

This jacket is very breathable and super lightweight. It does run small though, especially with layers and a beacon on, so I'd size up for sure.

Based on this review I ordered a large and it was way too big... I guess it just depends how much you want to wear underneath it. I'm 5'9, 140 lbs and medium would probably be better. Nice jacket otherwise.

Works :)

By:
April 22, 2011

When I first got it, I wasn't sure as it feels really "thin". I layered up (base and a soft shell under) and went out in a snowy-rainy day to the mountains. It really works. :) I wasn't wet at all the despite it being "thin", it held up and felt rugged in the back country. Will report back after the summer of its "performance" during a downpour or something like that. :)

Excellent Gift

By:
November 7, 2011

Bought this as a gift for my mom, and only had one problem with the zipper hanging up in parts, but because backcountry is AWESOME, i was sent another one.

She wears its all the time and gets lots of complements on it.

Great Pacific Northwest jacket.

Smaller than other stoic jackets which run a little smaller in general

By:
March 24, 2012

Stoic women's jackets run a bit smaller than other brands. However, this stoic jacket runs smaller than most Stoic jackets. 5'5" 112 lbs, 32B . Usually an XS in Stoic jackets. XS in this particular jacket would probably only accommodate a thin T shirt and would probably be constricting at that. I went for the Small and it is still not terribly roomy. If I wanted to layer a mid weight long underwear top and a down sweater hoody, I might even be inclined to go for a medium. This particular piece runs SMALL! No pit zips. Event is supposed to breathe better than Gore-tex. I shall see ;)

I wore it skiing all winter with a fleece and long sleeve under it if needed. It worked great. I am a medium and the layers worked just fine.

With a baselayer and midlayer underneath this would be a great jacket for skiing. If Stoic's sizing is like Backcountry's sizing it runs a little small. So if you plan on layering underneath of it, I'd suggest you go a size up from what you would normally order. You could also to talk to one of the gear guru's on live chat to verify this before ordering. They're extremely helpful.

Stoic eVent and insulated down sweater on Mnt. Baldy's Summit

By:
February 21, 2010

Rocked it! Warm - no wind got through. Mix the two layers together for a completely versatile backcountry hiking system. I have the pink down sweater on under the eVent jacket, the hub has the insulated men's jacket. He loved it.
Both my layers kept me warm and dry through blowing snow, self arrest practice and aggressive glissading.

Waaaaay to small

By:
June 11, 2011

Unless you're as skinny as a rail and possess no muscle tone, don't buy this jacket.

I'm 5'2" and fairly muscular and even the x-large doesn't fit my arms, even with just a T-shirt on. I have a hard time even zipping it up. I wear a large in the North Face line for a reference. When are outdoor clothing companies going to recognize that all athletic women are not tall and skinny?

I won't slam the technology. The jacket seems very sturdy and light. I commend backcountry.com for it's attempt to design it's own product but this fit is really terrible.

Sadly, I'll be sending it back.

Petite fit

By:
March 3, 2012

This jacket is sized for the very petite and is form fitting. You may want to go up a size. I agree with another reviewer that the arm holes are small with virtually no arm pit. An averaged size person will not be able to layer under this jacket. Very nice construction just be aware if you want to layer under this your arms might be restricted. I had to return this. I thought about exchanging but a larger size probably would not have worked. The sleeves on the small were plenty long and a larger size may have been too long depending no how they made it.

It breathes

By:
April 1, 2010

This is my first eVent shell. I was a bit skeptical of the fact it didn't have pit zips, but I couldn't pass up the deal on SAC. The shell actually breathes much better than other waterproof shells I have owned. Stoic seems to run a bit small. I wear a small in Patagonia and Mountain Hardwear, and the Medium in Stoic fits nicely. So if you're going to be wearing a couple layers and a transceiver size carefully. Construction is bomber, and the pockets are well-placed. The elastic cord around the waist is flimsy, could be thicker. The sleeves are long enough and the offset cuffs keep snow out. If you're looking for a light, no-frills, waterproof/breathable shell to tour and hike in, the Stash is a good choice.

Great and Comfy

By:

I got this jacket for a Christmas present. I have worn it in wet snow, rain, skate skiing, biking and just around town. Its comfortable, warm, light and keeps me dry. Bonus: It fits a woman's body.

Not at all functional

By:
May 19, 2011

Beautiful jacket, light, packable, but holy cats, why are the arm-holes so high? The rest of the jacket fits great, and even going up a size didn't fix the poor fit of the arms. You can't possibly wear this and expect to be able to do anything with your arms forward or overhead with it on! I'll stick to my Arcteryx, they make gear you can actually do stuff in.

Ticks all my boxes

By:
May 6, 2011

Couldn't be happier! I decided to invest in a new jacket when I pulled out my trusty old goretex rain jacket and my boyfriend said I looked like I was wearing a "bomb shelter". This jacket looks and fits great. It is amazingly light weight, you can hardly tell you have it on. Even though it is a smaller cut, it's so light that it doesn't restrict movement at all (unlike my old bomb shelter). I was concerned I wouldn't be able to layer up underneath if it was a slimmer cut, but theres still plenty of room for a base and mid layer, and it still looks feminine! It seems very well made - again, I was concerned that surely something stylish couldn't possibly be good quality as well. I feel confident to use it as a rain jacket for multi day hikes. I think it will also be great for snow boarding. And best of all, I wouldn't feel out of place wearing it down town with jeans.

Stoic eVent Stash Shell - Women's.

By:
May 3, 2011

Great jacket, great slimline/ladies fit. Nice length arms (with smalls sometimes aren't quite long enough...) Just been out running/walking in rain nothing too serious, works like I'd wanted! Hood has elastised straps to fit to suit. Nice pocket for MP3/mobile etc internally. In Australia, for a comparison jacket I'd have to pay $350-400 minimum, so extremely well priced for the quality.

This is a lightweight shell

By:
March 3, 2011

I was hoping to make this my next ski jacket, but the jacket is very light and the material is quite thin which makes me wonder about its ruggedness. It almost looks like a rain jacket. The fit is pretty good in my opinion, but the length was a bit short for an outdoor jacket. I find the stitches slightly uneven giving the jacket "crumpled" appearance around the stiches/folds. That said, if I don't have two rain jackets already, I might have kept it because of everything I have heard about eVent. I really want a high quality, tough/rugged ski jacket so I returned it and I got myself an Outdoor Research Mentor jacket instead.

Nice coat, but didn't fit well

By:
January 12, 2011

over even a down sweater. I ordered a Patagonia down sweater in a S and it fits nicely, but the medium shell, even over the light jacket was too snug. The vagaries of sizing! I normally wear a size 6, and a medium from The North Face fits fine. I hated to give a star rating because I couldn't really test the jacket - it could be awesome if it fit.

This product has to be some of the smallest fitting outdoor gear in existence. If you are tiny and/or very thin it will probably fit you. If you are muscular or have a hint of fat on you then this isn't the jacket for you.

And look at the answer to the question below "could you wear this as a ski jacket if you had a few layers underneath?". The answer says "If Stoic's sizing is like Backcountry's sizing it runs a little small. So if you plan on layering underneath of it, I'd suggest you go a size up from what you would normally order." A little research will save your time and money later.

I REALLY wanted this shell to fit....

By:
July 9, 2010

...but alas, I was foiled again by my "athletic" shoulders. I'm a fairly small woman (5'5", 131 lbs) but am no frail betty. I train hard and actually have a fair amount of muscle so I sized up to a medium in the hope that it would allow for a down sweater underneath. I have the Stoic softshell hoodie and the fit is PERFECT so I was hopeful that the Stash would be cut similarly. Unfortunately, even with a tanktop, the armholes were uncomfortably snug. The fit would not have allowed even for a light baselayer. The cut was exceptionally flattering to waist and hips. I considered sizing up to a LARGE, but the sleeve length on the medium was already generous (ending at the knuckle)and I felt a large would just engulf my hands. The fabric was lovely with a dry "hand" - even trying it on in 100 degree sweltering heat, I did not sweat and it seemed to wick well. I have regretfully returned the shell only because of the sizing issue. The jacket is bomber if you're looking for a very simple, superlight shell to stash in your pack but size carefully if you have even slightly well developed musculature.

One of my Favs!

By: Backcountry.com Employee

This jacket I love. It is waterproof, even being so thin, which I love. I've used this as a rain jacket and a ski shell..it does run true to size, with a great fit..but yes, if layering underneath , it is best to size up one size. I ended up with an xs, I am 5'2" 105 lbs. I can go either way sometimes xs-s, I opted for small in this particular jacket , as I wanted a more "fitted" style. Colors are great, design , sweet. :)
