Description
Sure, it's tough, but it has a soft spot for slumbering campers.
Three inches of contained air and foam cushioning makes the Stoic Burls Sleeping Pad the choice for campers, paddlers, or climbers who want to add a little more luxury to their sleeping setup at base camp. This pad is tough too, thanks to fully welded side seams, dual air valves made of brass, and a high-denier, double-coated nylon exterior. Stretch out on this spacious pad inside your tent at night or toss it under a tree down by the river a grab some quick z's—either way, you're in for some seriously sound sleep.
- 840D Double-coated nylon shell is extremely durable and puncture resistant so you can take it outside the tent without worry
- A plush combination of 16kg/m3 foam and air offers three inches of cushioning to keep you comfortable
- Dual air valves allow this pad to deflate more fully when you roll it down, and the valves are made of brass for superior durability
- Welded seam construction is tough, reduces weight, and creates an extended lip that holds tie-down grommets
- Six one-inch tie-down grommets let you stake this pad down when it's outside the tent or tie it up securely on the boat or when it's stored in the car
- Stuff sack is included for storage

The Padding is FOAM not air.

I was thrown by the "Pad" portion in the title. This really should be called a Mat or Mattress since the "pad's" I'm familiar with are light. Also, the air nozzles cause you to think it's inflatable. This is NOT inflatable. If you blow air into it, it does not become rigid, it balloons like a trash bag.
The padding is internal foam. NOT air.
In all fairness, the ad doesn't claim otherwise. But I really can't find a good use for this thing. If only you could inflate it, then the additional air cushion I believe would make it worth it. But the foam itself feels little more than you are lying on a thick knitted sweater.

I purchased 2 of the Stoic Burls Sleeping Pads for car-camping. I had the same experience with the pad ballooning if adding air. I thought the first one was faulty, so I tried the 2nd pad and got the same result. I returned them both and ordered the therm-a-rest luxury map... very pleased. FYI: Backcountry has an amazing service department... super helpful, polite, friendly, etc. I had no problems with the return or even using their price-match service for a lower price I found on another site.

This pad is very large when packed. I didn't measure it but it's definitely not compact. Do not get this for backpacking or if you do not have much room in your car for your camping gear.

Great pad for tent camping if you drive-up to your campsites or sleep in the back of your truck... wouldn't plan on backpacking with this guy, too bulky. If your looking for small & lightweight I'd go with a Therm-a-Rest, but you'll definitely give up comfort (comparing my experience w/ Stoic Burls to Therm-a-Rest Prolite). Overall, it just depends what your planning to do with it...
this pad blows

I was hoping that the Stoic pad was going to self inflate like the thermarest. Memory foam is not new technology after all. Really not happy that I have to blow this thing up at intervals because it is too big to blow up all at once. Now I have to look for a fitting that might fit the valve so that I can blow it up with a foot pump.

Don't bother blowing it up. It just balloons. The air doesn't add cushion other than helping fluff up the material? I think the valves are more for getting all the air out to allow it to store a bit smaller.
sleeps better then most motel beds

bought this as a unit to leave in the back of the truck as it is big and heavy and not ment to be hauled far. There are times arriving late to camp it is nice to roll out a pad next to the rig and get worry about setting camp in the morning.Sleep wise it is awesome and comfortable.
