The first time I wore this shirt

my hot runner friend goddess said she adored it.

She's going to be a doctor soon.

Winning.

Does it have thumb holes? The description says no, but in the picture, it looks like there is.

Responded on

Yes it does. The descriptions are off on these for some reason. Great shirt tho..

Very nice...

I'm 6'2", #190. I'm not cut but this thing was made like it was just for me. I ordered a large and it fits great. I would also fit someone really well that wants to show off the muscles they worked so hard to have. The color is very bright, it's warm when used as a layer and comfortable on its own. It dries so fast, that it's almost dry as I hang it out after a washing.

Great Shirt

Great performance shirt, wicking ability is awesome, and keeps you cool when your hot and warm when your cold. Only issue I have is it really isn't super durable as far as snags, etc. And the stitching started unraveling after just one trip using it backpacking. I burned off the threads hanging with a lighter and it seems ok for now. Good shirt, but could use more durability.

Can anyone comment about the length of the shirt?

longish fit with super long sleeves. I'm 5'10" and I wear a small and the sleeves still make it midway over my hands.
I'd take a tape measure to it but it's in the wash, sorry.

Good shirt though

I Wear It All The Time!

Seriously... I love it!

Very functional for cool weather

I picked up a couple of these shirts a few weeks ago off of SAC and have gotten good use out of them. The shirt feels a little lighter-weight than a 200 weight Icebreaker shirt, and is a little less warm from what I can tell. However, the Breathe T-shirt really does a good job of breathing. It adds a light layer of insulation, wicks sweat away and dries quickly. I agree with another review that this shirt does not have a skin-tight fit, but a looser, athletic fit. Its a great shirt for layering under a light jacket or vest. I definitely like the thumbholes, which contrary to the specs on the backcountry website this shirt does have. I've used this shirt comfortable under a light windproof vest into the mid-40s mountain biking and trail running, and I've used it under a mountain hardwear transition jacket in the mid- to upper-30s comfortably as well (although a tad warm in that condition).

Two knocks keeping this shirt from a perfect 5 star: the deep shale/shale is definitely more of a teal color than a blue, and the power dry material gets really stinky after wearing it for a while. I don't have the greatest sense of smell, but even I was rather put-off by the odor after a 2 hour mountain bike ride, and I was definitely not overdressed. As far as color go, I really like the Excalibur/Vintage color.

More money gear from Stoic

Great shirt; love the thumb holes. Once the snow flies, this will see regular rotation in the layering. As mentioned already, it is a bit thicker.

I can't comment on the durability or snag resistance. I'm also curious to see how the shirt resists piling.

It should also be noted to that the Deep/Shale color is darker than the picture provided. It's more of a darker turquoise, than the sea blue pictured.

Good shirt

This is a good shirt to use for layering. It is a little thicker and heavier than merino for the same warmth, but it is less expensive. It says the fit is 'close', but I found it to be more athletic, a little looser. If you can't afford merino I recommend this shirt.

Blue color is off. Still a great shirt.

Regarding the Deep/Shale actually being a teal color... that is true. It's not at all blue like pictured. I did a girl test and it's apparently still a good color on me so I keeps it.
I really like Stoic's Breathe gear from head to toe. Trumps their Merino 150 every time. Get the color you want but still get the shirt.
175lbs at 6'3" and the large fits perfect even in the arms.

Picture is altered! Not actual color

I ordered the Deep/Shale (Turquoise) color in Small. The color is nothing like on the site. It's more like a dark teal color - VERY disappointing!
Additionally, I'm 5'5" 120lb and size small is generally a bit big on me, but this was HUGE. The sleeves are nearly 3" from the END of my hands.. doesn't make any sense. Alas, the quality does seem to be pretty decent, shame I didn't get to try it.

Worth Every Penny

Love them. I bought 5 of them last season. I wear them hiking and running. They are warm, light and comfortable. At the same time, once you warm up you seldom find that you are too hot. High quality gear. They are tight on the arms which is nice and loose on the torso so you are warm with out feeling the least bit restricted. My personal favorite is the small reflective logos. Just another way to stay safe during the pre-dawn run. They are great for tall athletic guys. For once you can find a shirt that reaches to the ends of your arms. I am 6'4" and 200-215 lbs depending on the season and the XL works great. I have read other reviews from 6'+ guys 165-190 who endorse L or XL. I have since bought several other Stoic products and can say that XL is the way to go for my size. If you need cold weather baselayers that breath, wick sweat and are comfy, look no further.
