This is really a mid-layer. It has some good thickness to it so just the weight of it keeps you pretty warm, not to mention the material is warmer but still allows you to breath well. I've warn it skiing, hiking on colder days, and running in the rain. Honestly I prefer that it didn't have the thumb-straps just because Stoic already makes their garments with such long sleeves that when they added the thumb-straps it made it that much longer. Its perfect if you really want to use them but if you don't want to (my ski jacket already has some) then the sleeves can be too long and get in the way. Because of this my favorite use for this is when I'm not layering with it (although I can see how my disappointment could be another's delight). Overall very happy with this product and I definitely think its worth the money, especially if you find it on S&C like I did.
Great shirt, love the stoic wool. Super lightweight yet warm. Have had it for about 3 seasons and it is starting to "fluff' a bit, but not coming apart what so ever. Looking forward to wearing for many more seasons
I keep this shirt in my backpack just in case I run into some chillier weather while hiking. Haven't really used it yet but will add review when it happens.

I use this shirt over my base layer while sking or just hangin out in the cold. I am a big guy and the XXL fits well in the arms and is not restricing. I really dig that the arms have the glove deelios that come over your wrist, nice when real cold...it limits any exposure between shell and gloves. Keeo up the good work, I have 2 of these and as soon as you expamd your colors would buy more.
Good quality, fits me really nice (I got a M, I'm 5'10" 175, with longish arms for my height) perfect weight for spring, early summer... probably a little too thick for hot summer weather, but I am loving it right now.
Addition: material still looks good, and it doesnt smell or anything, but the stitiching around the thumb hole is coming out. If you dont use the thumb thing, then I wouldnt worry, but it kinda bugs me
I bought two of these(black and blue) with the intent of wearing them running, hiking, or any outdoor activity. Yes, they are great for anything like that, but they also look cool. I've recently found myself rocking these with jeans going out to bars. Pick up one or two.....trust me
This layer is perfect under a 1/4 zip baselayer. The thumbholes keep the sleeve where it needs to be, keeping the heat from escaping at my wrist. It also keeps the snow off the skin when you plunge a hand deep in the snow.
I bought this on SAC and have been very impressed. My goal was to find a long-sleeve shirt for winter trail running in SLC/City Creek Canyon and a nice base layer. This shirt fits the bill. I have a lighter weight REI fleece that was just too warm for running. This shirt seems to provide warmth without overheating. I wanted to get something in merino wool, but couldnt pass up the SAC price. Ill have to try merino next time. I am 5 7, 155 lbs and find the medium to be a great fit. Not tight, but not too loose. I initially got the Kiln (red)/metal color but found it to be a tad too pink, so I ended up with the black/tangerine (more of a red) and really like it. Seems to have nice fit and finish overall. I have run with it in the low 40s and used it as my base layer in an Alta blizzard, both with great results. Its very comfortable and doubles as a great chores and relaxing shirt.
