Great fit

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

This jacket is light weight, but quite warm. Sometimes I get too warm and have to resort to just wearing a tank top underneath. It has a nice feminine fit and stretch to it. I'm 5'0", 125lbs, 36 inch chest and the small fits well (form fitting). A medium would have given me more room in the chest, but since I just wear a bra and a lightweight baselayer or tank top, the small works out fine.

I love that it has wrist gaiters with thumb holes but they seem to be placed where your thumbs are not so you have to twist the sleeves to get them in place.

Warm jacket- Stylish too

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a really nice, warm insulated jacket. It runs slightly narrow in the waist area but still a nice fit. It's not as long as a lot of other ski jackets so there isn't much coverage around the rear-end.

I'm 5'3'' about 115 pounds and have this jacket in a small- If you're bustier in the chest, I'd recommend going up a size. It'll give you a little room to layer as well. I however, don't need much layering underneath an insulated jacket as I tend to get warm while skiing.

The only downside about this jacket is that the hood doesn't fit over a ski helmet (comfortably) I have a size small helmet and I can't zip the jacket all the way up to the chin if I'm trying to wear the hood. It's just way too tight on the face and makes it difficult to breath.

This is a great jacket for those really cold but sunny days where a hood isn't needed for full coverage. If it's a blizzard out- I'm wearing a different jacket where the hood can completely cover my head and face.

Is this jacket going to be restocked anytime soon/is there a new 2013-2014 model coming out?

Hi Kassady,
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we have any more of this model coming in. We do have the regular shell, but we no longer have the insulated model, sorry about that!

Looking at this for my daughter. 5'4", 130lb, longwaisted, hates baggy clothing. Should I get the medium or go for the small?
Thx

Responded on

Your best bet would be to get your daughters chest and sleeve length measurement and compare it to the sizing chart. The Stoic brand does run a little narrow but if I had to guess I would assume she would be a size small. However for accurate sizing please see the sizing chart.

Best Answer Responded on

If it's any help I am 5'3" and 120lbs. I went with the size small and it is pleanty tight. This jacket is also not particularly long. My guess is that the size small may be just a bit too tight since I wouldn't want this jacket to be ANY smaller on my frame.

I love this jacket!

I was looking for an insulated ski jacket and after shopping around, and reading the good reviews Stoic's Bomshell Insulated Jacket received on Backcountry.com, I ordered one. It arrived in time for me to take to Utah last week for some spring skiing. I wasn't sure I'd need the insulation, as its usually warm this time of year at Solitude, but I brought it anyway because it was new and pretty J. Good thing I had it! It snowed most days we were there, and was really cold! But I wasn't. I'm skinny and I get really cold when the temperatures are low. Stoic's jacket, with the right layer or two, really did the trick. And it's cute. Great cut to it, so it is flattering, and as waterproof as they claim. I can't recommend it highly enough!! Thank you, Stoic.

LOVE IT!

I absolutely love this jacket. I'm 5'3" and 113 lb. I got a small and it fits perfectly. Room to layer a fleece underneath on a cold day - but I haven't had to do that yet. This jacket kept me warm in a 35 mph blizzard! The fabric is soft and so comfortable - but I feel like it's super-durable too. I scraped against a screw that was sticking out this past weekend and it didn't even make a scratch. Perfect for skiing - love that it fits over my helmet. The dark jade color I got looks great.

sweet jacket

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share

I gave this jacket to my wife and she loves it. It is a good weight. it is warm enough to wear without anything underneath or on cold days later up. She loves the color too.

Super warm, great fit

Bought this for my wife. Fit is great, keeps her warm in the coldest conditions and packs small in the backcountry pack.

Best. Jacket. Ever.

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Bought this thing to keep me warm during my NYC winter commute (road bike). All I need is (maybe) 2 base layers, done! After 30 minutes - including some uphill riding - I'm usually sweating. Great when I'm off the bike or waiting for the train. Wish my gloves were this warm...

My go to Jacket

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is actually the first insulated jacket I have purchased. I generally rock shells and layers. This has been my go to jacket this winter though. Lots of great pockets and a great fit. The fit in the hip is just a bit snug ( ordered a Medium and I am a size 10 pants) but not uncomfortable. Stoic has my vote again!

light and worm

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Great coat. Bought for my wife. It is amazing how light and comfortable it is. Looking at it we initially got a bit concerned that it will not be worm enough. We were wrong. My wife is very satisfied. Very nice, flattering fit.

Undecided. ..

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

So, I have used this coat several times. I'm not completely conviced that I'm going to keep it. I read the reviews and should have listened to them. The thumb holes are kind of crooked as someone else stated. Also the fit is very narrow. I kind of feel like a fat kid in this coat. It was kind a tight fit when we went out the other weekend. I had on a base layer, a midweight layer, my beacon and a fleece coat (it was kinda cold). I had to suck it in to zip it up. I'm pretty average build. I'm 5'2" and 135lbs. with an athletic frame. It is really warm. That is why I haven't toatally given up on it yet. However, whether or not it is a keeper is TBA.

Stylish Insulated Jacket

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Not going to lie, this is the best purchase I've made all year. I've been looking for the perfect "green/blue" insulated jacket and I've finally found it. I absolutely love the dark jade color. This is such a warm insulated jacket, and it's the perfect length (not too long, not too short). I'm 5'5'' with broad shoulders and ordered the large and it's perfect. Also, I love the Thumb-holed wrist gaiters. This is a MUST HAVE!!

Stoic does it again!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I am usually a size medium and was not disappointed when I ordered a medium in this jacket. The wrist gaiters are great and it has just the right amount if insulation.

Got this for my wife, she loves it. She is generally cold when skiing, but not any longer.
Now she laughs at the cold.

What are the measurements of the photo model and what size jacket is she modeling? My wife is 5'8 and usually wears a Md, but needs a jacket to cover her lower back better. Lg or XL?

Responded on

I would get the Large. I am 5'6 and I found the Medium to be a bit short, especially when I lifted my arms up.

is the powderskirt removable? The specs say yes, but one of the reviewers says no. Also, is the hood removable?

Stoked on Stoic!

Great jacket, really warm for those cold days. But not too warm when I'm snowboarding/skiing. Fits a little small, I usually wear a large (5'8" 38" chest 30" waits and 40" hip) but ordered XL in this model fits just how I like it, not too baggy but not slim. Love the color and it isn't bulky.

Responded on

The color looks better on than in the photo.

Responded on

Which color are you wearing? Dark or Light Jade?

Responded on

She's wearing the light jade. I got it today. It's a bit darker than in the color in the description. I like the color. I had previously ordered the XS in the pink. I am 5'5" and 112 lbs and the XS was good except it was a bit shorter than I would like. I sent it back for a S and decided to try the light jade. The small isn't much longer and it's a lot wider in the body. The thumbholes in the arm gaiters don't seem very comfy. The arms are fairly long which might be a bonus to some. I like the fabric and the welded seams. It is probably going to be a no go depending on what else I find.

Responded on

Oops. I meant to say that I tried the dark jade in the smaller size...which is a forest green color almost...dark. (I tried the pink in the un-insulated bombshell.) Sorry about the confusion!

Responded on

Yes I have the light jade on, it's a little darker than the stock photo. I am really happy with it. If you'd like I can upload more photos.

Responded on

What is the XL back length and the hip and chest measurement? I have the same measurements as you :) - would you still buy the XL or you would think L might have fitted better?
I am a short torso long legs but still I would like my behind :P covered - so can't really decide, not enough data. I had some jackets which felt not long enough.
Where does yours come down to, in the back? I can see the front part :))

Responded on

The center back length of the jacket is 27.5"
The jacket zipped up is 24" wide at the chest and 23" at the hip zipped up.
When the jacket is zipped up, it covers my entire butt except for around 1 inch of the bottom of my butt. I could have probably gone down to the large but I went with the XL for layering purposes.
