Versatility!

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times
  • Fit:True to size

I'm 6' and weigh 165# and the medium fits well enough. There seems to be extra material in the chest that flops around and the suspenders really accentuate that. But with some layering that's pretty minimal. There's plenty of arm length and just enough leg length for my height.

It's absolutely perfect for snowkiting! I've also used it for ice climbing and it worked insanely well for that, too, though the hood could be a bit larger for helmets as other reviewers suggest.

I like the chest pockets but do wish there were a few more elsewhere on the suit.

It's a 1-Z!

  • Fit:Runs large

Runs on the larger size which is good. I'm 6'3" 200lbs and always seem to be in between Large and X-Large. Larges usually don't fit my shoulders or arms and X-Larges don't fit my 31" waist. This however fits my shoulders good. I can move and bend and it doesn't tighten up on my back to the point of ripping. Haven't had the chance to use it yet but I'm very excited to do so.

Hey Evap,

A large will definitely fit you. You probably could even fit in a medium. I can fit into a medium (my brother has one). The medium actually fits my waist and chest better and after I tried on his I feel like I could have gotten away with a medium.

Here's some more details: My dress shirt size is 17-17.5 (neck size), 34-35 (arm length) - this length of shirt hits my wrist when I'm relaxed but anytime I move my arms (say to check my watch or reach for something) the cuffs move up on my arm about an inch or so. I probably should be wearing a 36-37 shirt but when I'm relaxed the cuffs sit a little too low on my wrists for my liking. Anyway, the medium does exactly what the 34-35 length dress shirt does - it sits on my wrists relaxed but when I outstretch my arms the sleeves move up my arm an inch or so; not a huge problem with gloves on. Also, the medium fits well on my shoulders when relaxed but when I move they tighten up - not to the point of ripping (I think) but enough for me to notice and not want to take a chance. The medium fits my torso very nicely, it's snug but very mobile. It also fits my thighs nicely - again not too loose but snug - the length of the legs sits just above the top of the foot when relaxed, not that big of a problem with boots on.

In summary, the medium - for me - seems to be almost the perfect fit but it's a hair on the small side so I feel I made the right choice with the large. So, if you like a snugger fit (like I do) go with the medium but if you like a baggy fit, go with the large. They do have suspenders on the inside which you can tighten and loosen for a better fit. However, my large has a bulge of fabric on the front (belly button high) because I have my suspenders a little too tight, most likely. My brother's medium does the same thing for him but when I wear the medium the "fabric bulge" caused by the suspenders isn't there.

Hope this helps!!

I forgot to mention. The hoodie (this is for the large) fits over my helmet pretty easily but it's a snug fit and when you're wearing the hood it does a pretty dang good job of blocking ambient sound - pros and cons to this I suppose. This is the first thing my brother and I noticed when we used the hoods.

Oh, and I have put this to use and I love it! Don't know why I never used a 1-Z before. Fell numerous times in powder and no snow got in at all! It isn't insulated so wear some extra base-layers on those cold days. I wear Under Armor 3.0 leggings and a wool "long john" style long sleeve shirt and was plenty warm.

Can't wait to try it on the slopes!

  • Fit:True to size

Just got my one-piece a couple days ago, it took it about 4 days to cross the Atlantic and land in my house here in Spain. About the sizing, I am 183cm and 78kg always used M and now starting to get the L some times, but I order the M and it fits just perfect. I gave 5 stars because I love it and the guys of the customer service could not be any better, thank you guys for answering all my questions with a smile and for helping me out with the order. Also have 3 suggestions for the next model, I am missing a pocket on the left arm for my ski-pass and also the wrist gaiters as well as a waist zip for number 2 easy access!! I think is not easy to find a better one for this price, so don't wait to get yours!!!

Great fit, bright and super rad

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit:True to size

I have wanted this onezie for a good while now and finally ordered it. I had heard conflicting opinions on how this fit, and I am glad to report that the Large fits me perfectly. I am 6'3" 190lbs and the Large is perfect. The sleeves and legs are great lengths and the suit is not loose but not tight.

I really like the the suit has built in suspenders which you can adjust to give the suit a more baggy or higher riding fit. For those wondering, the hood will not be the best helmet-compatible as it is a tiger fitting hood.

The one downside about this suit is the lack of pockets. The chest pockets are nice but there is only one hip pocket on the right side, and I foresee issues when purchasing a day pass at a resort- few options for where to clip your pass to your suit! I like my pockets a lot, so that is the reason for three stars.

Stoked for the snow to fall so I can zip around the mountain in comfort and bright orange colors!

Great Suit, love it!

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I'm 173cm and 76kg, bought size M, pants a bit long and feels like sleeves a bit short, but I'm wearing on top of POC Spine VPD 2.0 jacket - so that was expected.

What about the overall fit? I am 171cm and 69kg. I too wear POC VPD Jacket. I could always roll up the bottom of the pants but what about the overall fit? I am seeing comments of 180 plus guys here saying that M size is fitting them perfectly.

Great Product

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Just for your Info, because lots of people asking this question:

I am: 185cm tall, 82kg, got Hips: 32/33 and Leg Length: 34

--> Large fits but Medium would have been perfect...

Great Product

Very good for the price

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Sizing I'm 5-11 185, longer legs. Large fit is great - plenty of room for a light fleece + insulating jacket underneath. Fit is loose without being overly baggy. but this gives the necessary layering space without restricting movement.

Did notice quite a bit of wind through the front zipper when I was really moving.

Only downside is no butt flap, so not great if your plan on spending the day in a harness.

Chick wearing mans onesie

Well...This really is a guys 1 piece suit but i couldn't resist the color of Paprika and it was a Onesie!!! Stoic doesn't make this piece for women yet, so I bought it and had my first ski and ski crash ever caught on video. The Onesie was a success and kept all the snow out of my pants !! Success!!

Pretty cool

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I think I like it. I just took it out today, figuring with all this new snow it would be a great test run. The sizing is a little strange, though this seems to be usual with me and stoic. I have the small, I'm 5'8" 150 lbs, the sleeve lengths are great, but the legs are a little long. The suspenders did help a bit with that issue, which was nice. It's not very roomy in the girth department though, which is saying something since i'm only 150 lbs... i may size up to the medium, though i fear the legs will be far too long. My only other issue is that the gaiters are not very tight. As in, they don't hold tight around any of my boots ( snowboard, ski, sorels) kind of very annoying when post-holing in deep snow. I've never had that problem with any ski pant before. And one other small thing, the only leg pocket on the suit is a little weird. It only has one small piece of velcro as a closure, which actually works well since it has a small awkward opening, but its just a strange not super secure pocket...

Love it

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

Welded seams, light weight, solid construction. It's way lighter than any other on-piece i've owned.

Originally I posted true to size, but I actually ended up going Large after trying it on. It was pretty close though. I'm 5'8" 155#, 41" chest, 32-33" waist. If that helps anyone...

P.S. Heard a rumor they might not do this guy next year so buy up!

Ladies Sizing

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I really wanted this to work, I really did.

I thought I could maybe, possibly get away with the size small, nope. If you are a taller lady, it may work. I'm 5'3" and 120 lbs and the size Small was gargantuan on me. A taller lady may be able to pull this off nicely, but short ladies...STEER CLEAR! It is significantly baggier than the Norrona brand one-piece (also size small).

The construction on this appeared very solid. The fabric was thicker than I expected, and the inner suspenders to help prevent sag were a wonderful touch. Well done, Stoic!

Dear Jamie,

As per my limited experience, I tried my boyfriend's Stoic Suit on at home, and didn't notice that the sleeve cuffs were overly restrictive. They are definitely narrower than some cuffs out there, but I wouldn't think it's a huge issue. I tried on my mittens with bulkiest gauntlet and didn't have too much trouble working them underneath the Stoic cuffs. I hope this alleviates your concerns.

Lexi D: Was it so big that it hampered you from skiing, or did it just look way too big? How was the fit from shoulder to crotch?

I only ask because I'm the same size and I've been looking everywhere for yrs for a blue one piece shell. I don't mind bagginess, and at $200... wowza!

Hey Cat!

TOO baggy for skiing, yes! Not only was the crotch of the suit ludicrous low, it just looked awful on me. Would definitely have impacted performance and efficiency skiing, probably my self esteem too. I'm not cool enough to pull off something that baggy.

I so wish Stoic would make a ladies version - PUNKS!

Are these going to be available again? Me and my dad really want these but I can't find them anywhere. Have they been discontinued or what?

Stoic was our own brand, it has since been re branded to Backcountry.com and the logo changed to the goat, so unfortunately unless you find one used they aren't being sold anymore. These have been discontinued and I haven't heard if they will be making them under the Backcountry.com re brand, but there's a chance!

Lots of questions about sizing.... But,...

Lots of questions about sizing.... But, does it keep you warm!

Great question! And the answer is, it depends. The suit alone will not keep you warm, but with a good base layer you will be. For really windy/chilly days I would wear a base layer and a mid layer. This suit has zero insulation, but it has a whole lot of awesomeness.

I have some Stoic Jackets in Medium that fit great. Is Medium the right size for me? or should I go Large?

Best Answer

Your sleeve length and inseam will be the most important aspect to look at with your long arms and legs.

The Bombshell inseam in M is 32" while the L is 32.4"

The sleeve length for the M is 33.6" while the L is 34.4"

The good news is that this tends to fit long and lean. Best of luck!

I am wondering about the durability of the...

I am wondering about the durability of the bombshell fabric. Seems waterproof/windproof enough but how resistant is it to snags, tears and normal wear?

Many reviews for Stoic base and midlayers mention torn seams and poor construction. Are the outer layers of the same quality?

The bombshell material is pretty tough stuff. I would personally rate it as being just as tough as most other winter jackets in the same price range. I have owned many stoic products, both base layers and outerwear, and have never had much of an issue with improper construction or torn seems. I have had things rip before, but it was always because I hit something or wore through it. I haven't found their products to wear out any faster then other brands like TNF or Patagonia.

I was out snowkiting last weekend and managed to put my kite in a maple tree. Up the tree I went in my 1-Z! I did plenty of bear hugging and sliding over limbs in the process of removing the kite and was very happy to see no tears or rips in either my kite or my suit. Very durable :)

Hi there, have been looking for a one-piece for some time. I am 6'1" and 185 lbs. Should I look at large?

Best Answer

Hey Johnny G.

Check out Souli's review below, he is similar in size. Based on his info, and you being a bit bigger in stature, I think the Large sounds good.

Hey Larry,

A friend of mine just around 6' could actually physically fit in the size small. Mind you it wasn't a pretty look but it could be done. This experiment tends to indicate that this model fits really long and lean. I would actually suggest trying both the XL and the XXL to see which size feels best. You can easily return the size that doesn't work out. We want you looking your best in this bombproof suit for your heli trip. Chat with one of our Gearheads and they can set you up!

This suit does fit long and lean, I have the small and it fits me perfect except for the length. I have an inseam around 30" and it's just about 2" too long, which matches up with the sizing chart. But I have around a 34" chest and 32" sleeve length and it fits great in those areas while allowing me to layer some.

That being said it could also breathe a little better when fully zipped up, but when you open the vents(no mesh lining when you open them) it breathes really well. Overall it is an awesome piece of gear!

plus i'm 188cm high 84kg what size to pick?...

plus i'm 188cm high 84kg what size to pick? i have airblaster freedom suit size L and its a little short - need more movement freedom.

Best Answer

I've found most stoic outerwear to run a size small. I generally wear a medium in most brands, but usually size up to a large for stoic stuff. That being said I'm a couple cms taller than you and a killo or two lighter. If you want it baggier, I would go for the XL, if not, you could get away with the L. However, at your height and with an American brand like stoic, it might just not fit length wise.

2 knanier

thanks captian, i wa not able without you to figure out XL would be baggy and L could not fit in length!

to Seve: nope.

trying to find any info but there is none.

no photos on the internets, no video on the official stoic youtube channel (neither user reviews) and no info about the heigh requirements..

looks like Stoic guys dunno about the internets and not going to put info here google could share it to everyone interested

I am 6'1'' and fit in to a small. Would I wear a small, absolutely not. It was much too trim fitting for any type of athletic endeavor. I will be buying a medium. Like I mentioned I am 6'1'' and weigh in at 170lbs. So I am pretty lean. These suits seem to run tall and long in the sleeves. I would compare the fit to that of the slimmer fitting items from Arcteryx. I am a large in all other Stoic gear usually but this one I needed to size down.
