Stoic used a blend of soft merino and quick-drying synthetic material so the Women's Alpine Merino 150 Crew Shirt is capable of keeping you warm and helping you control moisture when you're working up a sweat outside. Wear this baselayer for trail running, skiing, hiking, or camping.

    • Alpine merino material boosts warmth, breathes, and helps resist the bacteria that causes odors
    • Synthetic polypropylene is blended in with merino to allow this top greater durability, flexibility, and resistance to pilling damage
    • Athletic fit keeps the top close enough to retain body warmth while still allowing space for layers underneath

    Love that this is longer

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

I have other base layers (stoic, REI, icebreaker) and I love that this is a few inches longer. It means that it stays tucked in. Or, on a warmer day, I can shed layers and this looks like an actual shirt and not an awkwardly short piece of long underwear.
Ordered a large to accommodate bra size and long arms. Fits well.

    Too Darn Long

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I'm only 5'5", but with big shoulders and a big chest I had to buy an XL. The length is just ridiculous on this shirt and the hem went down to my thighs. Sadly, I'll be returning it.

    New Favorite Base Layer

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: medium

I purchased an older version of this top.... and then had to buy two more because I liked it so much. It is a little longer fit than my other base layers... which is nice for not coming untucked when out touring, climbing, hiking, etc. The colors are awesome. The fit is great-a little on the tighter side... but that is what I want in a base layer. It does not itch. I find that it does start to smell some after a lot of sweating. The thumb holes are an excellent touch. I am 5'6/140#, athletic build and the medium is just right. I need to go purchase a few more of these once they have more of my size in stock....

    New Fave Base Layer

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

I Love this top! I have used it almost everyday since I bought it! It's a perfect layer to start with for XC skiing, Alpine skiing, trail running, whatever your poison may be, it will keep you warm and comfortable. I didn't find it to be itchy at all. It does have a more trim fit that is quite flattering, and the body is long enough that your waist doesn't hang out during your activity. Sleeve length is nice and works well with the thumb holes. Overall Five Stars for this gem of a base layer.

    New fave base layer

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: small

I love this shirt. I love the long sleeves and thumb holes. It does not itch. It's great for winter running. Please get more. I wanted to buy more and you are out of smalls.

Cool base layer perfect for hiking!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: XS

Purchased this crew top with the matching bottoms before departing on a long weekend coastal hike. This top is incredibly comfortable and kept me warm and dry throughout the whole day! My new favorite hiking top!
FYI it's pretty form fit, so order a size up if you don't want something tight. I wore a tank top under mine and layered on top and it worked perfect for me.

    great staple!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: small

I am so psyched I bought this shirt! I love the trim fit so it makes it easy to layer, but looks great for wearing alone as well. Raglan sleeves are great for fitting over any kind of shoulders, wider or narrow.

    Warm, wicks, doesn't smell

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: S

I use this as my base layer for winter alpine climbing, and as my go-to for damp fall runs in the pacific northwest. Fits true to size. Stretches. Looks great.

    Warm, wicks, doesn't smell

    Better than the non-alpine version

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

Prior to getting this version, I purchased the "Merino 150 Crew Shirt" (basically just the non-alpine version) and really liked it. I didn't however like how the sleeves on that version were too short for me to comfortably use the thumb holes! I came across this version and read that it had a longer torso and longer arms, woohoo!

I purchased it and like it much better than the non-alpine version because the arms fit much better and I love the length of the torso. I do personally like my sleeves to be a bit longer and have longer arms to start with, so keep this in mind if you have short arms.

The medium fits well on me with room for a short sleeve or tank underneath but can also wear by itself without looking baggy or big. I usually wear a small to medium or 4 to 6 in shirts. The head hole on this version was surprisingly small though. My head is pretty average size and it took some effort to pull it over my head, which is the reason for the 4 stars. Once on the neck doesn't feel tight thankfully but getting it on was harder than it should be...

Overall the shirt is comfy and a great layer. The seams are flattering and the thumb holes make it nice and cozy!

    Good layer.

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

The fit is nice, I am 150 lbs 5'6 size 6 muscular build. This had adequate shoulder space for me and was long enough in the torso. I like the way it fits. My only complaint is that the fabric feels a little weak. I am not sure how many hiking trips it will survive but initially I like it. This is my first wool blend shirt though, so I do not have anything to compare it to. Overall I am happy with my purchase.

Nice and long and very comfortable

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

I just got it, and I love it so far because it is long enough for me without being too loose in the chest or waist. I am 5'11', weigh 140. I got a Medium, and it is plenty long in the arms and falls below my hips. It fits perfectly as a base layer--not too snug, not too loose. Come spring/summer it'll work great by itself.

    Nice Baselayer

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

I gave this a gift with the Stoic Zip T and the recipient has had nothing but good things to say about the shirt. She said that it is tighter than the Zip T and so it works as a great layer underneath it on the cold days or on its own under a vest with a jacket for the warmer days. She also said the material is nice and not "scratchy" as some under layers can be.

    Sizing

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I ordered this product as a base layer for fall hiking. The shirt goes down to lower thighs and the arms go 4 inches past my finger tips. I am 5 ft 7 in and 175 pounds. I think this shirt is best for those over 6 ft.

    Too itchy - sigh

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

The fit is true to size, the sleeves are nice and long - I have an athletic build 5'7" 136 lbs. with long arms. The description said it was not itchy but it is, believe me. I cannot wear it and sadly cannot return it since it's been washed.

    Like, so warm

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I've used it a couple of times so far this spring and it's performed like a champ. Warm, fits well, and doesn't itch even when wet. I even love that it's long enough to not let a draft in when I bend over, and it doesn't ride up much when I walk. I have a long torso and have trouble finding shirts that are long enough, so I'm very glad I found this.

    Stoic love-fest

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I love this baselayer - it's plenty warm for winter hiking. It doesn't ride up. It runs typical to stoic size (for me that means sizing up to fit loose but keep at my normal size for a baselayer to have a tighter fit).

It's not itchy. It has great thumbholes. Breathes great and keeps you dry - works waaaay better than any other base layer I've tried (granted I'm comparing to non merino here - because I can't afford most merino baselayers).

You get high quality fabric, fit, cut, and design - for a reasonably affordable price.

Color choices are great - enough "girly" choices and "female but tomboyish" choices as well.

    So glad I found Stoic!

    Base Layer Heaven

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I got this in the Charcoal/Black/Oxblood in a Large and it fits perfect. The length is everything I dream of in a base layer, its long enough so I can bend down to buckle my boots without getting a nasty draft or exposing my stomach when I reach for things.

On top of that if you haven't tried a Merino base layer I suggest you do. I never get sweaty and I never get the chills. To sum it up its perfect, warm, and requires minimal washing which equals more time getting my shred on.

    Hey Lilien!

It sounds like you are just a bit shorter than myself and a little slimmer as well- I actually think you would be fine in a medium. These fit a bit longer anyways and I'd hate for you to size up if you didn't need to. I'm about 5'8'' and around 145 the Large gives you about an extra inch in over all length and fit.

Feel free to give me a shout if you'd like to chat about sizing more or just want me to set up an order for you. I'd be happy to make a note in your order about sizing and ask to get you a free return label if you'd like to order both and send one back to us. Or if you get one and decide that you'd like the other. :]

Up to what temperature could this shirt be comfortably worn? How hot is too hot for this shirt?

Hard to put an exact temperature on it as your activity while using it plays a huge role. I find myself ski touring in this and only this when it is <45 degrees, I can run in it when it is >40 degrees.. Honestly the deal is so darn good for a merino shirt, might be worth to buy and give it a try. You always have 30 days to try it out and return it to us for store credit. Ill even cover the shipping back if you hate it.
