Stoic crafted the Alpine Merino 150 Crew Shirt for men who need a long-sleeve top that's warm, durable, and fit for duty in the mountains, on the trail, or in the snow. Blended merino wool and synthetic material helps regulate your temperature and control moisture when you're working up a sweat in the cold.

  • Merino regulates your body temperature and helps resists the bacteria that causes odors
  • Synthetic polypropylene is blended in with merino fabric to allow this top greater durability, flexibility, and resistance to pilling damage
  • Athletic fit keeps the merino fabric close enough to retain body warmth while still allowing space for layers underneath
  • Backcountry.com is the exclusive US retailer for Stoic products

Great Base Layer, keeps me warm!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

This is the second such Stoic base layer that I've picked up, the first one met an untimely demise courtesy of the Snowbird Clinic tech's scissors when removing it the regular way was impossible! I liked it then and i like it now, hence my need to replace.

This shirt has long sleeves with openings for your thumbs should you so desire, i have long arms but i find that i don't use the thumb holes so much. The fit is true to size.

I use this layer as my go-to one on days where i'm either going to be sweating a lot, or on days where i need a good reliable warm underlayer - i ski tour 75% of the year and this layer does a solid job. If it wasn't out of stock I'd buy more of them. Stoic is a reliable, affordable brand that more people should be aware of.

Great Base Layer - Affordable Warmth

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Got this as a gift after a fire destroyed all my gear. This piece is quality in every way. Great warmth, no smell after a hard day hammering in the backcountry, no itch, comfortable and greatest of all it won't break the bank.

I'm 6' 175 lbs and the medium fit is awesome.

Great base layer

I ski a lot, and use these shirts all the time. They are comfortable and don't get as 'ripe' as the full synthetic ones after a day on the mountain.

Initial thoughts: great shirt

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I am 5'11, 155 lbs. According to the sizing chart, I would be a size medium which is what I went with. As you can see from the picture, the arms are a little lengthy (as others have said, and is pretty typical of Stoic) but not so bad that it makes the shirt unwearable. The sleeves are tight enough that it prevents the shirt from coming down and covering up your hands.

This is my first experience with Stoic gear (and merino, in fact) and so far I gotta say that this shirt will be great for a long time. I plan on wearing this on top of another base layer shirt that I have and I can tell already that this is going to keep me very warm.

It's a little itchy right off the bat, but not as bad as I had imagined given other reviews I read. I'm going to guess that after a while the itch will wear off and it'll be great.

All in all, I'm going to see how this shirt holds up and I'm sure I'll be buying more Stoic gear in the future.

(I'd add a picture but it's not letting me upload it; sorry)

Awesome.

Agree totally with Jason, below. Not the softest merino out there, but for the price it's great. I'm 6'1" 180 lbs. and the L fits about right...although I do like my base layers looser than most. I wear a medium in most other t-shirts but usually a L in base layers. Confused yet? All the benefits of merino wool, half the price. I've been pretty unimpressed by other Stoic gear, but this shirt works great for me, will probably buy another.

Solid Shirt

Very comfy, slim fitting shirt. Be warned that it is more lime green than the photo shows. It will shrink a bit if machine washed.

Great shirt

This baselayer is great. I was suprised how warm this keeps me considering how thin it feels. Does a great job wicking away moisture too. At first it seemed a bit itchy, but I don't even notice it anymore. I'm 6'0", 205 lbs, with broad shoulders and usually buy an XL. I bought a L, as I wanted the baselayer to be tighter, but it was a bit too tight around the shoulders/arm pits. I returned for an XL as I really liked the shirt, was worried it would be too baggy, but it fits pretty well. Have worn this running as well, thumb holes come in very handy in cooler temps. Have worn this in low teens, doubled up in lower temps, and it does a great job keeping me warm. Very happy with the purchase, so I bought another one!

It's a pretty good shirt

This shirt has restored my belief that stoic is worth buying.
Fit: I'm a lanky 6 foot 160 lbs and wear the medium. The fit is relaxed athletic, comfortably fit a tshirt under, but not much more. The arms are long enough for me to use the thumb holes, and the body is long enough to stay tucked in.
Material- The mild, pleasant scratchiness is reminiscent of the polypro shirts I rocked as a novice outdoors man. Not the softest fabric, but I prefer it to something silkier that clings to the body when sweaty.
All in all I'm pumped on the shirt. It's my new go to long sleeve for trips.

Nice but note that it's not 100% Merino

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Got this thinking it was 100% Merino. My fault that I didn't read carefully. Nevertheless, it feels nice, very warm and the extra long thumb hole sleeves aren't as intrusive as I thought they might be.
I am 6"1' and weigh roughly 178. The large is a little baggier than I'm used to for a base layer but it hasn't bothered me. I prefer the feel of 100% Merino (e.g. Ibex) but it's hard to find much to complain about with this shirt.

Money

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Love the merino. I swear by using this stuff and all my synthetics have gone out the window. No stink, keeps you warm, keeps you dry. Nailed it. Sizing is pretty true but i like my baselayer somewhat tight and at 5'10" 175 its perfect.

Really nice base layer

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I'm normally an XL, got the xl in this and it fits great. athletic cut, long! great fit for taller folks, I am about 6'3" super comfy. I got black because I dont like how some merinos are more "see thru " not a worry with this one. Great shirt, great value. Only thing I cant rate it on yet is durability
