Description

It'll float your boat (body).

Whitewater makes your mouth water and rapids get your heart pumping (in the good way). Sounds like the Stohlquist Rocker Personal Flotation Device is right up your alley. Designed as a high-performance piece for boaters who live to shoot tight vees and send the occasional 'fall or two, this PFD adjusts to fit like a glove and it holds a brewski close to your heart. Stash your small, essential emergency gear on the accessory lashes, and slide a cold one into the front before you raise the pirate flag for a four-day charge through the canyons.
  • Ergonomic Wrapture torso shape dials the fit of this vest to hug your core with a curve rather than feeling like a brick on your chest and back
  • Free-floating shoulder straps stretch so you can move with ultimate ease and feature a tough surface material for portaging and protection
  • Non-slip panel inside the chest helps to minimize or eliminate ride-up when you're moving in the water
  • Six adjustment points have straps at the side, front waist, and the Cross-chest cinch
  • High-visibility 3M reflective accents make you easier to spot in the dark
  • Stohlquist paid attention to small details by adding a secure D-ring for your whistle, a hands-free front bevy pocket, large main pocket, and accessory lash-tabs for your knife or strobe

Just opened this up and tried it on and it looks pretty sweet. Still waiting for warmer weather to try it out. I bought it for kiteboarding on the water so will post again when I really try it out.

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

bought this jacket to guide this summer in Maine. very comfortable through the shoulders because of the design of the straps (only downside is that on warmer day I get the weirdest tanlines). it allows great range of motion, and has just enough storage in the pocket for a couple energy bars or a ziploc with my keys in it, which are the only things I ever have in/on the vest other than the river knife on the lash tab and a whistle tied to the lanyard hole. speaking of the knife, my one (very) minor gripe with the vest is that the placement of the lash tab can make it a little bit more difficult to draw a rescue knife than it is on other vests, where the lash tab is usually higher on the chest.

I had never had a PFD that didn't have adjustment straps on the lapel. It took a bit getting used to. I was always used to cinching down the PFD via that manor. At first, the PFD felt loose because of this (even with all the other straps cinched down). The PFD did not shift or ride up though.
I really like the freedom and range of movement. Other PFD's say that you get a good range of movement, but this one is honestly like you're not wearing anything.
After the first day on the river I had gotten used to it and really enjoy it. The PFD fits great and very comfortable.

I'm a rafting guide on the New River in WV, and I've had this thing for a little over a month now. Long story short, it's fantastic. The S/M fits perfectly on my 6' 150 lb frame, and the high shoulder straps keep it out of my way whether I'm guiding a raft or running a ducky trip. It stays on great, doesn't ride up, and pops you right back up to the surface after even the gnarliest of swims. Speaking of swimming, it sits just right when you're swimming, be it aggressive (on your stomach) or defensive (on your back) swimming. It floats you just right in the water so that you can swim effectively without getting in your face. It adjusts down perfectly, and I really like the side zip, as you can wear it with the zipper undone when you're getting the trip prepped and still have the front and back to block the wind. The front zip pocket has way more space than it seems it does, and the mesh pocket is great for a water bottle, sunglasses (during calm spots) or a packet of trail mix! In summary, go for it, this PFD is fantastic.

Guide approved.

So comfortable. Never gets in the way while I'm kayaking.

Great pfd, very comfortable especially compared to the "affordable" pfds I have been wearing all my life. Once on and adjusted properly, I forgot I was wearing it during a full day of paddling. I bought this pfd for whitewater canoeing (I-III) and dinghy sailing and it should fit the bill perfectly.

The storage compartment is great and is actually functional. It held two cliff bars, knife, chapstick and keys with room to spare.

So why did I only give it 4 stars? I wish there were more sizes. With only S/M and L/XL I was on the low end of L/XL so it fits, but all the straps are just shy of being cinched all the way. I guess now I'll just have to bulk up.

This is the first PFD I've purchased since high school, despite the fact I work as a river biologist and log many hours on (read "in") the water. Put aside the fact that I am a penny pusher, this jacket was well worth the cash. I finally got fed up with my old PFD and decided to upgrade to a Type III. This thing is awesome. The fit is great and highly adjustable. It also does NOT ride up, which is amazing. The zippered pocket is great for keys, lip balm, sunscreen stick, buff, and other small odds and ends you like to have nearby on the river. The mesh pocket is my favorite, though, because it holds a can of beer perfectly! One thing I will look out for, though - the shoulder straps are stretchy, which is great for comfort, but seemed weak when I had to be lifted back into a raft after bailing in the Grand Canyon. Overall, this is a great whitewater PFD, and I am looking forward to using it on the Colorado, Green, and Yampa this summer for field work.
