Compact 'nocs with killer views.
The Steiner Safari Ultrasharp 8x22 Binoculars fold to fit neatly in your jacket pocket so you can see the mountain goats hopping along a precipice from your vantage point along the Highline Loop trail in Glacier National Park. These binoculars barely make a dent in your pack at a mere 8 ounces (yes, that is one half of a pound), and bring far away objects to the forefront. New optical technology takes away blurring and bending at the fringe and turns colors into vivid explosions of eye candy.
The numbers, 8x22, have nothing to do with size and everything to do with sight. Eight (8) refers to magnification and 22 refers to the objective diameter. Clear as mud, right? Magnification is how closer the object appears—with these 'nocs, that sweet billygoat will seem eight times closer, so if she's really 80 feet away, it will appear as though she's a mere 10 feet away. The objective diameter determines the binoculars' light-gathering ability, which can translate into detail and image clarity. The 22mm is the smallest in the Safari line, but that will probably only affect your viewing if you're going to be out in low light conditions or at night.
UltraSharp optics enhances the crystal-clear images produced by BAK-4 glass prisms. This glass virtually eliminates internal light scattering so what you see is sharp, bright, and well-defined. The optical technology ensures a crisp image both at the center and at the edges of your field of view. Ergonomic eyecups feel sweet against your face and readily fold down if you're wearing glasses.
