    The XG-1180 cassette is SRAM’s X1-level cassette offering. The primary difference between it and its upmarket brethren is its pinned construction, as opposed to the single-piece, X-Dome construction you’ll find in the 1195 and 1199. It still offers the wide, 10-42-tooth range, and is only compatible with SRAM’s XD driver hub interfaces.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

    I run this with a 26T chainring on my fat bike in the winter. I will probably change that to a 28T in the summer for a little harder gearing when the climbing becomes easier. I've never spun out going downhill on the trails around here so I went lighter just in case I ever need it. It's great having the extra real estate on your handlebars since there is no front shifter. Where this cassette shines is when you have to suddenly shift three gears really fast, just extend the thumb push and it smoothly changes gears.

    Easy and hard all in one

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

    This has a massive range of gears. You'll need an XD driver if you don't already have one but all major wheel/hub companies make that adaptor now and it's well worth it so you can "go to 11". This cassette requires a "deep" cassette removal tool. The new Park Tool FR-5 that you would purchase today does the trick, but the FR-5 I already owned, which was from 2004 or so did not work. Anyway, it's a super cheap part to replace. This doesnt wear out too fast, I have about 1,000 miles on mine so far and it's still shifting fine.

    when SRAM came out with this cassette it was the clear choice for anyone who buys their own parts and wants a 1X11 setup, the same ratios as XX1 and X01 but at a great price and only sacrificing grams. Highly reccommended!
