Spyder Features & Highlights

White Spyder

Designed in collaboration with world-famous ski mountaineer Chris Davenport, every piece in the White Spyder collection is purpose-built for skiers who aren’t afraid to tackle big lines or take on ambitious goals. Featuring Spyder’s signature stretch shells and its top waterproof breathable technology, outerwear in the collection is lightweight, durable, and made for strenuous skiing. As you might expect from Spyder, the products in its premier men’s collection also boast a sleek, eye-catching looks to go along with their technical chops.

Don’t be deceived by the sexy silhouettes of Sypder’s skiwear for women—it’s every bit as technical as clothing in the men’s line, designed for protection and comfort on the mountain. Spyder clothing is made for ladies who rip, and want to look good as they’re doing it. In addition to the sleek design, it’s set apart by bright, appealing colors and well-thought-out features, as well as luxurious details like real fur trim in select pieces.

Low-bulk synthetic insulation can be found in a range of Spyder outerwear, from jackets and pants to gloves and mittens. Depending on the application, you’ll find premium PrimaLoft Silver or PrimaLoft Gold, which offer superior water resistance and softness; 3M Thinsulate, which traps heat and reflects radiant body heat; or Spyder’s proprietary, ultra-fine ThermaWeb insulation. Look for jackets that feature varying amounts of insulation in different places (body, sleeves, hood) to balance warmth with easy mobility.

When it comes to outerwear, kids can be just as demanding as adults. They need clothing that shields them from the elements and keeps them warm when they’re skiing, but they also want pieces that look cool and are comfortable to move in. Spyder’s boys’ and girls’ lines, as well as the Mini and Bitsy collections for younger boys and girls, fit the bill with highly durable, protective apparel. Both on mountain and in the schoolyard, Spyder pieces stand out with bright colors, appealing race-inspired designs, and, of course, the distinctive and desirable signature Spyder logo.

About Spyder

Although it first rose to fame as an innovator in ski racing gear, Spyder has since become the world leader in ski apparel for skiers of all ages and abilities. The company's race DNA, though, is still apparent in the sleek, stylish look and performance-oriented designs of all its products.

Spyder was founded by Canadian skier David Jacobs, who first gained his start in the ski world as a member of the Canadian national ski team, both as a skier and as a coach; later, he would return to the race world as the parent of two boys active on the circuit. It was then that he created a padded racing sweater that was warm, mobile, and protective, drawing on design experience earned while while working for Lange ski boots. What began in 1978 as a mail order business out of his kitchen grew quickly, especially after the successful introduction of equally well-designed ski racing pants. He name his new company Spyder, based on the nickname these pants had acquired among racers.

In the 1980s, Spyder came out with the now-standard one-piece 'speed suit' design used by racers up to this day. Always on the hunt for the cutting edge, Spyder came under scrutiny for one particular suit design in 1994 because it was alleged by the FIS that a particular model gave racers wearing it an unfair advantage. The company became the official outfitter to the US Alpine Ski Team in 1989, a relationship that continues to this day; in 2002 it signed on with the Canadian team as well.

At the same time, Spyder began building a broad line of products for recreational skiers, offering jackets and pants that combined extreme functionality and weather-proof protection with fashion-forward style. Its skiwear for boys and girls is well-known for durability (jackets and pants are never outworn, only outgrown), warmth, and appeal to kids' fun loving style. Spyder's outerwear styles run the gamut, from more traditional racing-styled apparel to the relaxed look that appeals to freeskiers and boarders. As benefits its history as an innovator, Spyder also offers cutting-edge products, like those in its White Spyder collection. The lightweight, high-performance gear in this line was designed in collaboration with world-acclaimed big mountain skier Chris Davenport, who demands the most from his outerwear.

In addition to warm, waterproof outerwear and gloves for the slopes, Spyder offers complementary baselayers and midlayers for warmth on the coldest days of winter. As with all its products, Spyder underlayers are designed not only to be highly functional, but to turn heads in the bar or restaurant après ski. But whatever the product, you can count on Spyder for the finest quality of construction and materials, all of which work together for optimal performance and comfort both on and off the mountain.
