Modern, progressive styling with proven performance.
Halt! Who goes there? If it ain't Old Man Winter with a massive dump, shut the door and keep a watchful eye for clouds on the horizon in the Spyder Men's Sentinel Jacket. When the flurries start to fly, let your guard down and go grab some throat-tickling powder as you eat face shot after face shot. The combo of burly fabrics and lightweight insulation protect you from cold and snow, whether you anticipated the assault or were ambushed by a fast-moving storm.
Clean lines turn polyester twill into an eternally-stylish jacket. An asymmetrical attitude gives the Sentinel attitude without turning into an already-outmoded piece of winter wear. Taped seams, Spylon+ DWR, and the Xt.L 10k/10k laminate cooperate to prevent the elements from penetrating and permeating the fabric boundaries. A hint of insulation in the sleeves and torso offer a bit of protection from the cold, and up the ante on warmth-retention when you put the Sentinel over thermal baselayers.
The removable hood fits over your helmet, and you can adjust the opening when pretty swirls of snow turn into a rabid angry snow monsters. Underarm vents let you dump surplus body heat if you're hiking up a ridgeline. The powder skirt keeps smoky snow dust from settling on your back, and can be snapped back when you're walking around town. Put your goggles in your pocket for safe keeping if you go straight from the slopes to the bar, and wipe the beer off with the chamois wipe so you can see semi-clearly the next day.

What is the difference, besides 100.00 in the Spyder Rival versus the Spyder Sentinel?
The Sentinel is a good jacket and the Rival is simply put a great jacket. The Rival is twice as waterproof and breathable. The fabric and design of the jacket are made to move with your body better. Plus the Rival is going to be a lot warmer. While the Sentinel has 60 grams of insulation throughout the jacket, the Rival has 80 grams in the sleeves and then bumped up to 100 grams in the body where you really need it.
