When fall makes itself known with a thick morning frost, zip up the Spyder Patsch Tech Softshell and go pick up your skis from the shop. You can feel it in the air, and with the Spylon water-resistant fabric you can stand out in the season’s first round of snow showers without getting too cold or wet. The fulltime adjustable hood and fleece backing provides some extra warmth, especially when you slide on a weatherproof shell over the Patsch, so it can function as a breathable mid-layer for the first ski day of the season.

Bottom Line: Welcome the coming ski season when you zip the Patsch and keep your eye on the weather.

Not for the wind

By:

I love this jacket! That being said I have taken it out on some windy winter nights and regretted it. It doesn't cut through the wind like I'd like it to. I have also had the zipper come undone form the bottom twice. This doesn't bother be since Spyder has a lifetime warranty and Backcountry.com has the best return policy on the planet. If you're having doubts just get the jacket, you'll be glad you did.

so far so good

By:

the jacket in total is a good buy - i use it with a fleece underneath and it keeps me warm enough on days that hit around 35-40 as long as i'm not outside for over an hour or so. my only complaint is the hood - it looks cool and the drawstrings are placed well, but when it is up, the front droops past my eyes so i have to keep adjusting it or fold the front of it under itself (which doesn't look cool). it is pretty big for a hood in my opinion - like maybe its meant for a helmet to be worn but i doubt that because the shell isn't durable enough in my opinion to be worn as an outer shell skiing - the pockets have zippers which is a plus and the material in general looks and feels great - would recommend and/or would but again

Fits very well, functional design, water resistant, and perfect warmth for late fall. It looks great as well. Highly recommend this jacket.

Looks good

Black Houndstooth Medium. I'm 5'9" 160lbs, skinny. With just a base layer it fits perfect, not too baggy. It's snug with a light midlayer (like a light fleece). The jacket has no stretch, and thus it is a bit constricting in the arms and chest over a layer. Beads water a decent bit. The only other complaint is that the zipper is weak, small, difficult to use with gloves and easy to miszip such that it comes apart. I plan on using it on sunny spring days on the slopes. Super stylish and a good value.

Sweet Jacket!

This Jacket is awesome. I got the Red Houndstooth and the pattern is really cool. I have quite a collection of North Face softshells, but I like the hooded softshell which is hard to find in a North Face. As far as confort and fit, the two brands fit similar.

Great jacket - size up if you want to layer

By: Backcountry.com Employee
December 16, 2010

This jacket was a replacement for a much-loved lost Patsch -- great jacket. My son had grown, though, and while the L fit him very well, he wants to be able to wear a relatively heavy layer underneath on cold days on the hill - so we returned the L to size up to an XL. He is 5'10" (and growing, so we can't go wrong) and about 160lbs.
