Lead the pack.

The new Spyder Men's Leader Jacket is stacked to the max with technical features designed to adapt to the best and worst of winter conditions. A perennially popular Spyder jacket, bold mechanical blocking and custom-embossed nylon taffeta lining, not to mention wicked waterproofing, keep this jacket far in front of the snow-sport crowd. Don't feel guilty; there's nothing wrong with always being the first one to get to the bottom (or the first in the lift line).

Spiders are crafty, even when they aren't trying to save pet pigs. It's only logical the Spyder engineers took soft and flexible stretch polyester fabric and turned it into a storm-stomping piece of waterproof, breathable protection. Xt.L 20K/20K laminate won't let a sideways snowstorm or brutal bootpack take you down. Dry is good when exposed to the elements, but warm and dry is better. Two grades of Thinsulate Insulation with Extra Warmth keep the Leader looking like it means business instead of just another puffed up jacket.

Interior stretch cuffs with thumb loops keep the sleeves in place and warm your wrists. Both the hood and powder skirt come off when you're leading the troops to town for apres-ski drinks, or when you're shoveling your seemingly endless driveway. The internal goggle pocket gives you eye-wear options if the day starts out snowy and finishes sunny. An included chamois goggle wipe gives you high visibility for your free-riding fun, and the sleeve pocket readily holds emergency (beer) cash.

  • Xt.L laminate (20K/20K), fully taped seams
  • Stretch polyester oxford face fabric, DWR finish
  • Thinsulate Insulation with Extra Warmth (80g/100g, sleeve/body)
  • Powder skirt, snap-back and removable
  • Hood, helmet-compatible and removable
  • Inner stretch cuffs, thumb loops

I have this jacket and ripped a tear in the sleeve due to a pretty nasty fall. Can i use a gore tex fabric repair kit to repair the tear?

Responded on

Hey man,

you sure can, though seeing as this jacket isn't made of gore-tex it might be a little over the top. I would suggest using Gear Aid Tenacious Tape ( to cover the ripped area and pull it together, and if you want it to be really strong put a thin layer of seam grip around the outside of the patch (

Good luck!

Spyder leader jacket

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small

Best jacket I have ever put on!!! Con : they run a size small. Example look at size chart spyder vs obermeyer. The XXXL Spyder compares to the Obermeyer XXL. I have not been able to find this jacket in XXXL This late in the season so I'll wait. It's worth it !!! Oh BTW back country's help was outstanding !

Spider Leader Jacket beyond expectations

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

This Jacket is absolutely out of this world! The best Jacket I've owned by far and third Spyder. There is nothing about this jacket that is not perfect for me, storage is well placed, ventalation is great, the fit is perfect, warm during the Grand Targhee and Jackson Hole Sub Zero Weather Days I love the hood system, the powder guard, even the chest pocket for the Jackson Hole J Card. And the styling is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Did I mention I love it?

Hello, I tried on the Chambers Jacket in an XXL and i found it was a bit tight in the back and shoulders. I am 6-2 255 chest is about 50-52 inches. I was wondering if the leaders fits like the Chamber or if it a bit more relaxed? I was thinking about XXXL but wanted to get some feedback first.

I'm 6'2" and 235. I have a 12/13 leader in XXL. Fits just right in the chest.

I am 6'5' and 250 + I brought the XXXL as I like more room in the arms and chest. Skied Japan and was warm as toast and didn't have any problems in the powder.

Does anyone have a clue why Spyder would put Thinsulate in their jackets instead of Primoloft?? It doesn't make any sense to me?

Best Answer Responded on

When it comes to name brand fabrics and insulations, companies some times try to have a few garments in their line that cater to customer that may have certain preferences for name brand fabrics and insulations. Some people prefer Thinsulate while others prefer Primaloft.

Other times, it can be based on cost. Or it can be based on what fabric / insulation works better for that garment.

Lots of variables are involved with product development and material selection. Availability, cost, quantity, factories able to work with materials, taxes/tariffs, logistics, etc.

This doesn't give you an exact answer but I hope this helps.

My chest size is 39. I'm a little hesitant about the size. I'm 5'8 160 lbs. Would you say that I should size up to a medium or stay true to the size chart and buy a small size?

Responded on

For your size I'd normally put you at a large, but in their sizing I'd go with the medium.
