Everything you need in a pair of gogs
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I had never used Spy goggles (or even tried them on, really) before so I was a bit apprehensive when ordering these, but I'm so glad I did. I was looking for a goggle with a large field of view, so I tried on the EG2 and I/O but i didn't want to shell out $130+ for them so I checked out Backcountry. These bad boys have awesome peripherals and contour to my face sooo well. The frame is pretty flexible so there's no weird pressure or gaps between your face and the foam. The bridge of the nose is high enough to accommodate my big nose very comfortably. Asian customers might have a bit of trouble with this because the whole goggle is domed which might cause some trouble with a flat face/small nose. The ventilation on these is great too. I've had multiple sessions this year that involved hiking hills to take laps on a booter and they didn't fog! I havent tried out the spare (orange) lens but I'm sure they'll be as satisfactory as the rest of this product!
My favorite goggle in 21 years
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
These goggles have the biggest field of vision I've ever had. I've done the Oakly Canopy and Smith I/O in recent trips, but nothing fit my face, helmet, and performed like these Platoons. I wear the Smith Varient Brim helmet and there is no gaper gap or gaps near the temples. I'd give these goggles a shot for your next pair. Go try them on with your helmet if you have any concern.
LIKE A WINDSHIELD FOR MY FACE!
Great range of visibility and super comfortable. I love the design of the Alohas and with the extra lens, the range between tints in the 2 lenses are perfect. One for the bluebird sunny days and the others for the low-light during late nigh park sessions.
Superb fit, finish, style and visibility
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
These goggles are AWESOME! The bonus lens that's included makes these goggles extremely versatile and well worth the extra cash over the Electric EG2 model or the Oakley Canopy (both of which I had also considered purchasing). I purchased the Scallywag with the Bronze w/red spectra lens (for sunny days) and the bonus Persimmon lens (for night boarding). The EG2 goggles would have been cheaper initially but then Id still need a different lens for night boarding so in the end it would have been more expensive then the Platoons.
The fit of these goggles is superb! They have never fogged up or sagged one bit on me. They fit comfortably on my face and offer a wide range of vision far superior to my old Arnette Series 3 goggles.
Changing the lenses out is a snap which is great when the weather decides to throw you a curve ball.
5 Stars! Highly recommended!
I have a fairly large squash and it has been difficult to find a goggle with a proper fit. Tried bolle and Oakley goggles and was impressed with optics but not with fit/comfort. The Spy Platoon has been great so far. Wide field of view, clear sturdy optics, comfortable fit, no fogging. Only complaint is that extra lens included is for similar light conditions as one included. Would like to see one for bright light and one for overcast days (yellow lens). Unfortunately Backcountry does not sell replacement lenses for this goggle.
Best oversize for medium to giant size face
Best goggles by far. The lense, field of vision, fit, quality, look,...I've owned tons of goggles over the years and there are alot of good ones out there but these by far are the best quality and bang for your $$$
I put these goggles through hell last season and they still look great. The lenses have a couple scratches on them but nothing that interferes with my sight through the lens. Also, the bonus lens that you get with these is one of the best deals around. I always carried both on me and would often change them with the changing weather. The lenses snap in and out pretty easily.
top of the line
- optimal visual clarity
- comes with 2 lenses
- Ultra comfort
- does not fog
- sick looking
