Be prepared for everything from non-life threatening emergencies in your local area to worst-case scenarios in the most remote locations on the planet with the Spot Satellite GPS Messenger. Thanks to this small, affordable device there is no such thing as being out-of-touch from rescuers when your adventure takes a turn for the worse. This device also allows you to check-in with friends and family through custom messaging and lets them track your adventure progress in real time via online applications.

  • SOS/911 function alerts GEOS International Emergency Response Center which contacts the appropriate emergency responders in the region from which the signal transmits
  • HELP function notifies your personal contacts registered with SPOT with an SMS text message including your coordinates or an email link to Google Maps
  • CUSTOM MESSAGE function allows you to change contacts, customize messages, and access your waypoints for later review
  • CHECK-IN/OK function allows you to let your friends and family know that all is OK with a pre-programmed message along with your GPS location
  • TRACK PROGRESS function acquires and sends your GPS coordinates to your SPOT account automatically every 10 minutes for 24 hours or until canceled, which your family and friends can access via a SPOT Shared Page

Bottom Line: Immersed in adventure, but never out of touch.

Talk shop with all the gear freaks out there: ask 'em questions, upload/browse photos, and give your 2¢.

Any opinion about how reliable this product is - there are certain roads my wife won't ride alone due to the remote naure and spotty cell phone coverage (terrain is pretty wide open, no steep canyons or heavy foliage)

Great product! It will suit perfectly the needs of your wife. We use it to follow our trail runner Kilian Jornet when he's attempting his ultra distance records

Close friends and I have personally successfully used this product in what could have been very bad situations- There have been multiple situations where my friends or I have been in zero-cell phone coverage, totally remote (all in the US in my case) areas where cars cannot get to- the SOS button activated and with astonishing response time a heli showed up- and I'm talking REMOTE areas. A must have for anybody traveling in the wilderness or even just on long road trips. The GPS mapping feature works great too.

Yearly membership starts at 99.99 with options to add other services on. The Optional rescue insurance is less than 10 bucks a year and is good up to $100,000, which is phenomenal-

Yes! I know there is a yearly set up, but I think you can do it month by month too.

Anyone use both the first version of the SPOT and this new version? Is it worth upgrading to the new SPOT?

Yeah, I have Spot 1 and the new Spot works quite a bit better, what I mean by this is the signal is improved. Also, a new road side assistance feature for $30.00 annually, and the buttons and lights are better to understand. The only draw back is Backcountry is the mot expensive place to buy the Spot 2 at the moment many other places put the new Spot 2 at $149.99
