Sportlegs sound too good to be true. Their maker claims they reduce the 'burn' of riding too hard too long. But just about everyone we know who's tried the stuff seems to like it. Their testimonials largely echo the feedback page on the Sportlegs site. Basically, everyone says they can ride harder after taking the stuff. That's good for anyone who likes riding fast or climbing hard or both.

The special ingredient is lactate -- just like the lactate your body produces. Conventional Wisdom once postulated that lactate was bad for legs, but now it seems that some is good. Lactate here is supposed to work as a buffer to slow down other adverse chemical reactions that will really slow you down. The lactate from Sportlegs tricks your body into thinking it doesn't need to make more.

But there isn't a complicated or long multi-day loading protocol. Just take one capsule for every 50 pounds of body weight an hour before you are going to exercise. That's two capsules for a 100 pounder, three for 150, and so on (if you're in between, they suggest rounding up). The capsules dissolve and get to work. Sportlegs has plenty of advocates in the peloton, and those people suggest reloading with a dose every three hours if riding easy or every two hours if racing.

The formula is patented. The company doesn't allow any substances on the World Anti-Doping Association's (WADA) prohibited list into their manufacturing facilities, so you won't be able to use Sportlegs as your excuse if you ever test positive. The main ingredients are lactate compounds of calcium and magnesium with vitamin D. These ingredients are gluten-free and dairy-free. The bottle comes with 120 capsules.

Surprised!!!

I'm not going to lie, I spend weeks with this item on my wish list before I actually bought it. At first I just wasn't sure about it. There are just so many supplements out there that make amazing promises but usually fall short!! But not this one!! last week I did a 55 mile ride before I had this product and during the last 10 miles I wanted to cry every time I saw a hill in front of me!! It was a new route for me. After taking 4 pills (I'm 188lbs, not the lightest guy) I did the same ride and I couldn't wipe the smile off my face!!! my legs were not sore, no cramps, and when I got home I didn't have a problem going up 3 sets of stairs!!! I will most definitely use it before every 50+ rides!!!

I found out about Sportlegs because my mother who runs long distances every weekend and races every other month swears by these. It seems to make the difference between being able to do a long run or bike with less pain and without (as much of) the feeling of wanting to stop after several miles because your legs just don't want to go any more. If you're wanting to try something new to take your workout to the next level, it's a small price to pay to find out for yourself. You don't have to take it every time you run or bike, just when you know you're wanting to go the extra mile. Because you're not taking it all the time you probably don't have to worry about your body doing something weird with it.

They are pretty nice to have. i dont use them every time i ride, but when i do, they are very nice. basically they keep your legs from going lactic.

live cramp free :)

After many a long 100+ mile rides and getting cramps, even though properly hydrated - I have found that these little dudes keep the cramps away! One/two pre-ride, then one/two every 30 miles - swig it down with your liquid of choice. Totally legit and highly recommended for those hot days or long ride days. Haven't noticed a change in my voice, any appendages changing size or shape - so no worries ;)

Actually work

Great for those occasions where you will be pushing a muscle group to its limits. For instance, it will help with the arm pump when riding downhill all day, and doubly so if you are climbing back up to the top yourself.

Decrease the burn

Works well for long-distance rides. I can definitely tell when I forget to take them as I can push harder and longer. Also helps with recovery and not aching after a day of crushing it.

nice supplement

I like this product. It does seem to help dissipate lactic acid buildup and i found it works best when you are very hydrated. I have noticed a difference in my climbing and definitely recommend this product.

Won't go on long rides without 'em!

Like another reviewer said - maybe it's all if my head, but I'm ok with that! I use these for mountain biking. You'll take them before a ride and halfway through realize that your legs aren't as tired as they usually are. I've tried using them for running but haven't noticed much of a difference. I'm not much of a runner anyways so that probably has more to do with it...

Like Viagra for your legs.

I had spoken to a quite a few people who had tried these and they gave them rave reviews.
As long as they don't grow a third testicle or any additional hair on my back I think we have a winner here folks. Oh, wait.. That didn't sound right. My testicles are hairless and not on my back. As long as they stay that way I'll be happy.
When I think of lactate I think of something dripping out of a boob. I once knew of a guy in college who had lactating nipples. Weird.
I actually bought them for my wife when she does her half marathons. She was so impressed with them that I started using them for mountaineering.

but they seem to work!

Use these in the summer for long bike rides. Have found that my legs last longer and don't feel as tired after 16 miles. Remember to pack some with you to re-load 2 or 3 hours into your ride so that you keep up the momentum!
