- Q & A
Cozy, urban winter boot
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Size Bought: 10.5
This boot runs on the roomier size, best worn with thick socks. Comfortable, stylish and well made.
When timbs aren't classy enough...
...I strap these bad boys on. They are roomy enough to handle a variety of sock options and classy enough to hang out and trade stock options. The soles are burly and grip snow/ice like a champ. Not for hiking.
British Citizen and Trendy
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
These boots are as you say in the USA Awesome! At present in the UK, these winter boots of quality are in vogue with the trendy London set. I bought them from Backcountry because they were massively cheaper than purchasing them in the UK, even with the postage which ended up at $49.00 to UK. I cannot believe that I saved 70.00 by buying USA. I went for the dark brown boots, which I have polished using the 'spit and polish' method, as used by the British Army to obtain a high polish. You can straight away recognise that the quality of the leather is premium, otherwise the "spit and polish' method would not work well! Do not hesitate in getting these boots. Although the weather in the UK (apart from Scotland, North of UK) is not too bad at present, I wear my boots to go watch Peterborough United Football team, who I support. I can tell you, they keep my feet as warm as toast! Get them, you won't regret it.
I dig it...but watch out for the color discrepancy
There's not much to not like about Sorel boots in general. They are typically burly in construction with style to boot (pun intended). The Mad Boot follows the same tradition with stylish upgrade of a classic winter boot, with rich burnished leather and classic snowboard boot like outsole. It's also pretty darn comfy. Only design feature I'm not quite sold on is the way the laces are setup...the lengthier lace hooks make it a bit of a pain to adjust the lace lengths...but it's something I can live with. One thing to watch out for is the color. I can't vouch for others, but I got them in Chipmunk, and the color on Backcountry's website is a bit off (but the ones on Sorel's site are a bit off too...although there is one large picture of it with a guy wearing it that's pretty close). The "brown" is couple of shades darker than it looks on the website. The color of this particular boot is pretty difficult to generate accurately in pictures; it's very tough to get the white balance correct. I'm posting 3 pics, and the 2nd and 3rd pic is as accurate as I could get to the actual color of the chipmunk model. The first one is off in color, but shows you the whole boot in hopefully better detail than the one on the website. Also, due to the nature of the leather finishing process, one batch will look a bit different from the next in color, shade, and texture.
