Great looking, great feeling, and really warm!
Let's hope it snows a lot so that I can wear them a lot!
Form or Function?

Why not both? I just about had a heart attack when I handed over my credit card...who spends $200 on boots?! Smart people, that's who. Dry, warm, cozy, built to last and worth every penny. However, one issue, they're a bit slick on tile. I tried to do the splits (not in a good way) in a Wal-mart entryway last winter. It may have been the boots, it may have been the floor, it may have been me or, maybe, something was trying to tell me to spend less time at Wal-mart?

I own the Cate the Great in Black Pewter and I absolutley love them. I researched an unreasonably long amount of time before I bought them since they were pretty pricey. However after wearing them a couple times this winter I can honestly say these are the best boots I have ever owned and I have recieved many compliments on them. They are well made and very warm and water proof. The fur accent makes them really cute and stylish. That being said, do not be fooled by the pictures, these boots will not make your feet look petite, and they are not super supportive like a sneaker and long walks could leave you with tired feet. So if you need lots of support consider insoles, there is enough room in the boot for them. They are true to size though. Bottom Line: Buy these! You'll love them!

Love these beauties, (or should I say "booties").
They look amazing and keep my feet warm before and after skiing. I found that after 3 years these boots have packed out a bit, so I would definitely recommend ordering your normal shoe size, or going half a size down, since they do pack out so much. Other than that, they have handled the use and abuse of the past 3 winters like champions. I always receive compliments on these boots, and feel that they really enliven my winter wardrobe!
The durability on these boots is exactly what you would come to expect from the fine folks at Sorel.
What's another word for warm and toasty!!!!

These boots come to the upper calf & if you are in-between sizes I would suggest sizing down. I have these in the Pewter/ Elephant Skin and the color is exactly as pictured on the site. This is a great boot to rock while walking the dog, or shoveling the driveway or just slipping on after skiing. Don't be fooled by this boots looks, it is still a sorel & is a work boot. Love the look & that I don't have to unlace the whole thing to get my foot out.

do u have the tobacco suede in a size 5.5?

Unfortunately we only carry sizes 6 & up in this boot & this model only runs in whole sizes. I wear a 5.5 and sized down in this boot. You might want to order direct from Sorel to get the right size so your feet will be happy! http://www.sorel.com/
Also the tobacco brown color in the detail pictures was from last season in 2010.
My favorite boots!

These boots are amazing. I'm a true 7.5 and the 7 fits great - with room to spare for big comfy socks. The lacing makes them comfortable to wear with just leggings or you can even stuff a baggier pair of jeans in them. So warm and so comfy - I could just sleep in them!!
Super cute but Joan of Arctic prevails

I got this boot because it's super cute and Sorels are a functional brand. I already have a pair of Joan of Arctics, which I love. But...Cate...I mean really- she is hot. However, after trying them on side by side the ankle support from the JOA was superior thus Cate is being returned.

I got these as a gift a month ago, and I can't wait to use them in the snow. Not only are these rated to -25 F and water resistant so I know my feet will be cosy and dry, but they're cute too! They are a bit stiff in the back heal area but I'm hoping they soften up after a few more outings.

Can anyone tell me how the sole/support of Cate compares to the Joan of Arctic? The sole of these does not seem to provide any more support than my Uggs (though I know that they are warmer and more waterproof.) I usually wear Danskos so this is a big change. I'd like to find a cute snowboot that won't kill my feet.

I can't compare to the Joan of Arctic but the Cate does have some arch support. It's more than your typical Ugg boot, but still pretty minimal. I mean they aren't Danskos - by any means..

These boots do not have a great deal of arch support. You can always add a custom insole if you plan to be walking for any long distance or up on your feet for long periods of time.

Wow, GREAT BOOTS!!!!! The legs fit larger calfs, which is nice for us non toothpick gals. The foot seems to run a 1/2 size larger, but heavy socks will snug them up. No break in time needed, cool looking and comfortable. Toasty warm, nice for Michigan winters. Great sale price, free shipping. I haven't seen anybody else wearing these, Buy em girlfriends, you'll love em.

They looked great, only problem was I ordered a 10 and they were too big. I wear a 9.5 so I thought with socks I could get away with a 10. Nope, they would slip with every step. So order the exact size.

I needed a waterproof boot for the long Wisconsin winters and these are excellent. Not as cozy as Uggs but just as warm and stylish. I've received several compliments when worn with legging and skirts. The laces take a little time to get into and out of, but that is a minor challenge. I ordered a size 9 and they are roomier than expected, but still an awesome buy.

Can the fur top be removed? Can you cut it out of the boot, if necessary?
Lexi D.

The fur cannot be removed, I would also not recommend cutting it off, as the outcome could be pretty unsightly.
Love my Cate's!

I ordered these in black about a month ago and i have to say i absolutly love them!! They are warm and gorgeous, and made very well. The only thing that annoys me is that when I'm wearing them with skinny jeans, the inner elastic part of the boot pushes my jeans up the shaft of the boot and bunches them up so that I have to readjust my jeans every hour or so. But the look of them is worth the fuss...
I also have the Sorel Joan of Arctic boot and these are far more comfortable than them, there is really no break in period for the Cate's, whereas i am still having some problems with the Joan's and pain in the right ankle section.
*FYI, in some pictures the sole of the black Cate's look white, which i was nervous about, but when i got them I found out the sole is actually a light/medium grey color. You can see what it looks like on www.sorel.com.
I also saw a notice on sorel's site that these boots were noted on Oprahs show a couple days ago as being a must have for 2011! I def think so...and you will get compliments everywhere you go!

My boots arrived today, and I am so disappointed! I thought, from the pic online, that they would have a gray tint to them. They are all black, and it is hard to see all the stylish stitching and fun details. I am sad to say that I will be returning them. I guess I am looking more for the look of the white colored ones. Too bad Backcountry doesn't have them in my size. :(
Not as warm as you'd think

First off they are beautiful. They look just as good in the photo as they do in person. They are a bit tall, so for us shorter girls (I'm 5'3'') they almost completely cover the calf. Which isn't a bad thing necessarily but they can be uncomfortable if you aren't wearing skinny jeans, otherwise your pant leg bunches at the top of the boot. They say that they are rated for -25 but they do not keep your toes warm past 5 degrees above zero. I live in Alaska were about 3 months of our winter is spent in -15 plus windchill and these will not keep my toes warm in this weather. But if you live in a warmer climate than mine they are great.
