    Treat your hoofs right.

If your feet were evolved for the cold, harsh temperatures of the tundra, then you wouldn't need the Sorel Women's Caribou Boots, which would be unfortunate, considering how classic and cozy these boots are. Being about as classic as they come, the Caribou is one of the original offerings in Sorel's line and remains largely unchanged to this day. Boasting a seam-sealed leather upper that's bolstered by a vulcanized rubber shell and a wool felt liner for reliable warmth, this boot is burly enough to withstand the harshest temperatures north of the 49th parallel and stylish enough to wear out for après drinks.

    • Sorel's original winter-proof boot designed for everyday wear
    • Seam-sealed leather upper is waterproof and durable
    • Vulcanized rubber shell increases durability
    • Removable wool blend liner ensures warmth in cold climates
    • Bonded felt frost plug insulates against ice and snow
    • Aggressive AeroTrac sole ensures traction on snowy surfaces
    • Sorel comfort rates this boot to -40F

Nice boots but more for casual wear

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small

I ended up returning these boots because they weren't quite what I was looking for for snowshoeing (a little too bulky/heavy), but I'm writing the review mainly because I disagree with the general opinion that they run big. I think they run a half size small! They are cute though and the gray color is really nice. If I needed casual boots I think they would be great.

    Happy Winter Feet

Is it possible to have too many Sorels? I don't think so. These are a perfect addition to my super tall Catherine the Great Sorels. These are a little shorter and the insulation and warmth is just perfect as I jump around in snow piles. My foot is a 7.5-8 but I size down to 7 in Sorels

      Disappointing Customer Service

      • Fit: Runs large

Received these boots as a Christmas gift & they were TOO BIG! Called Customer Service to see if I could exchange for a smaller size & was told NO since they were purchased thru Amazon. My only option was to return them for a refund (again, they were a gift) & then purchase a new pair. The Backcountry return/exchange policy on Amazon states:
Sometimes you need to exchange a product for something else—it happens. Exchanges only require a few minutes and an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) number.
That is not the case. Spoke with 2 different customer service reps & neither would help me with my simple exchange request. I love the boots, but would like a pair that fits...didn't think that was too much to ask for...guess I was wrong! I will NOT be purchasing from Backcountry again! Very disappointing.

I apologize for this experience, Jill, and would like to know how we can make it up to you. If you reach out to me directly I can facilitate the exchange and also try to determine who you spoke with here at Backcountry, since that is NOT our policy. Please give me a shout at your earliest convenience.

      Hello, Warmth and Comfort

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
      • Fit: Runs large

These were a Christmas gift for my girlfriend. She's not previously worn Sorel's, but has the coldest feet and is stoked about the warmth. She says they are perfect for walking around town, short dog walks/hikes, and dog park trips. They offer plenty of room inside the boot, but also run a bit large in size by a good half size (even while wearing winter socks).

      Cute but not functional

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 7

I wore these for one week to my gardening job. On day three, after walking through slushy snow for about 3-5 minutes, my socks were damp on both feet. My feet were cold the rest of the day and I requested a return- thank backcountry for having great customer service. It is so disappointing! I needed to wear these to work, so I dried the liners in the clothes dryer. On dry but very cold days, my feet were OK most of the day, with cold settling in after some hours outdoors. They are not as warm as they could be. In terms of fit, I have narrow feet and there was a lot of room inside, which was great for wearing my regular thick socks. The extra room didn't bother me in terms of comfort, but it may be better for my knees to wear a more tight fitting boot. In regards to overall size and appearance, this is a large clunky looking boot but looks normal where I work and looks normal worn with snow pants or all weather bib pants.

      Wifey loves them

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought these for my wife and so far so good. They run a bit large but once she was able to figure out the correct size, no complaints. Super warm! Perfect for quick grocery store runs or when she helps with shoveling the driveway. Gotta make her earn her keep.

      My lady loves them!

Supreme levels of warmth and waterproofing. From my experience, sizing down is necessary by roughly half a size. That being said, this is a pack boot. Give ample time to really work the liner to your foot for a perfect fit!

      Sturdy and warm

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 8.5

My wife got these when we moved to Utah and she loves them. They are a little bulky but the warmth and waterproofness is amazing. Even if it isn't too cold out the foot doesn't overheat with the insulation. She loves them and is excited to put them to work.

      Tank-Like Winter Boot

Leave it to Sorel to build a women's boot that delivers performance and looks it one great package.

I upgraded my lady from her decade old hot pink pair of Sorels to something a little more adult looking (at her request). She was extremely pleased with the fit and warmth out of the box.

We gave the boots a solid break-in on a weeklong trip to Iceland where they were her daily boot. Uneven terrain, sand, water - the Caribou's took all comers with ease.

Sorel Caribou ~ the best snow boot ever

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 6

When I was a little girl in Anchorage, Alaska my dad owned a pair of Sorel Caribou boots that he swore by. I got mine 25 years ago. They are still warm and toasty. They keep my feet warm and dry no matter what the conditions are. I bought a pair for my husband while he was working in construction and hunting in 2007. He is still impressed at how they always hold up to any cold weather condition. I always go up a half size for boots to give me extra room for thick socks. I usually wear a 5.5 in sandals so I got these in a 6. If you want the very best boots, get these ones.

Cute and good quality snow boots

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: Runs large

I just got back yesterday from a very chilly vacation and wore my new boots for the first time. They do run large. I should've ordered a size smaller, or at least half a size. I normally wear a 9 or 9.5 in other shoes and I ordered a 9.5 and they were too big, but I didn't have enough time to return them and have them back in time for my vacation so I wore them anyway.
My trip included several miles of walking during the day in the snow and ice and for not breaking them in beforehand, my calves were a little sore from the boot. The boots are heavy and to avoid "scuffing", you need to pick up your feet when you walk.
Overall, they are cute and stylish and they kept my feet warm and dry. I only wish I had time to exchange for a smaller size. Had I ordered the right size, I would've been completely satisfied.

      Greatest Boots I've Ever Owned

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: 9

After winter in New England last year, I tried to get LL Bean boots, but they were out of stock for months on end. So when I started looking at alternatives, Sorel looked like the most comparable as far as price and quality. So I ordered the Caribous a size smaller than I normally wear (I'm usually a true size 10, I ordered a 9), based on the reviews, and they're PERFECTION. I ran through six inches of lighter, fluffy snow a few weeks ago with my dog, and they were warm and dry then, but the true test was today's weather. We got a few heavy, wet inches of snow this morning, and I wore these boots out to clean off my car. My feet are warm, dry and happy. There's room for a thicker pair of socks, although I don't find that I need them, but not so much room that my feet slide around inside the boot. The fit is perfect. I love these boots, and I hope to have them for a long time.

      Awesome boots!

Very warm, comfortable and super cute! They definitely run big but if you see other reviews you can size them appropriately. I usually wear an 8.5 shoe but a half size smaller in boots, and thats what I did. The size 8's fit great!

Extremely warm, run a little big

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: Runs large

Great for slipping on and taking the dog for a walk, shoveling, or an arctic picnic, however, they run a little large. Looking forward to breaking them in more so they are easier to get around town in..great traction and the first time I have commented on my feet being "hot" during a snowstorm.

      Awesome boots

I have never owned a pair of Sorel boots before. Now I wonder how I've lived in MN and SD without them! They are comfortable, waterproof, durable and work great for outside chores. In the future I will only buy Sorel for my functional winter work boot. I normally wear a size 7.5 shoe and downsized to the size 7 boot, they fit great and hug my foot like a glove. Highly recommend these boots.

What size do you recommend getting for an 8.5?

do these have a pretty wide toe box? the fact that they run a large is really encouraging, but finding something workable is an absolute chore since I'm a completely flat-footed size 12 with a bunion ):

You're right, andrew; bunion-owners rejoice! I went ahead and bought a pair since winter's coming quickly and I didn't want to risk them being out of stock; not only are they wide enough to wear comfortably, but there's room for an orthotic as well if I find I need it!

I live in Boston, and the sidewalks get pretty icy, are these boots slip proof on cobblestones?

      Hi Anne,

Not sure if you've purchased your boots yet, but I have had a pair of Caribous for 4 years while living in Minneapolis. I needed something to protect my feet during brutal Minnesota winters, where I walked a lot. While I am totally happy with their warmth, the soles are definitely not slip proof. I actually had to invest in a pair of micro crampons for mixed snow/ice situations (the kind with little metal studs in the frame, not actual spikes). I bit the dust more than once on icy sidewalks before I got them. It's easy to think that because they are so bulky, they will protect you from the slippery stuff, but my experience has been to take the further precaution of the crampons.

Unrelated, but the reason I'm on the site searching for a new pair is that the outer rubber material started to crack where my toes bend, at the same point on both boots, almost like they had dry rot? Unfortunately Sorel customer service said that they could do nothing about the situation because the boots were over 3 years old, and alas the place that I purchased them from was not Backcountry, with its wonderful return policy. I'm caught, because they are incredibly warm. But be advised that the outer rubber has the potential to crack over time.

Hi there! Checking in to see if an item is on back order - looking to purchase a pair of the Shale grey boots in size 8.5! Any chance of getting them this season? Thanks!

Are you expecting the grey boots in a size 8 anytime soon?

Are you guys planning on getting any more of these in the cinnamon color size 9.5? The entire internet seems to be sold out.

Will you be getting more size 6 in buff color? Thx.

Will you be getting more of these in the Shale/Black color? I need an 8.5!

      cvi105700559,

We do have a vendor order on the way to replenish our inventory. Shale/Stone 8.5 is part of that order. I would expect to see if available for purchase by the end of the month or beginning of February. Keep checking the page at least once a day.

Do these run small? I wear a size 11 or 11.5 and I want to make sure they are not too tight.

They run large!! I usually wear a 9 and ordered an 8 and they fit perfectly, even with a little bit of a thicker sock. Keep in mind with wear the liner will start to stretch out and will give you a little more space. I highly recommend you get the size down, the 9 would be huge on me.

Will you be getting more of these in Cinnamon or Buff in size 7?

When will you get more sizes in Cinnamon? specifically size 8-9?

Will the Shale be getting restocked any time soon? I need a size 10!
