Sombrio's Loam Mid Shoe features a mid-height top for added support without sacrificing pedal-ability or range of movement. Using a rubber compound with a proprietary molecular structure developed specifically for use with flat pedals, the high-friction compound not only offers incredible grip, its durometer also helps conform to pedals for a tangible interface.

You'll know exactly where your foot lands for unmatched sense of position. The soles' shape and sidewalls are also slightly rockered for an enhanced sensitivity to the pedal-to-shoe interface. With that much attention given to the compound and sole shape, one might think the logo'd lugs are just an embellished afterthought.

However; Sombrio found that the lugs, when cast positively, hooked traction pins. The added connection to the pedals reduces the chance for a slipped foot. Sombrio didn't stop there either. The outsoles are void of catch points -- it's the same pattern throughout. This provides a consistent feel for excellent foot position and dexterity to the pedals.

Heel and arch support is provided by molded perforated polyurethane insole, what Sombrio calls Dura4rm. The inserts are antimicrobial, breathable, and lightweight. Most importantly though, the shock-absorbing Dura4rm absorbs impacts to help avoid injury on bailouts, and it prevents heel lift when pedaling. Crashes are inevitable, and the Loam's leather uppers are tough enough to take a beating.

The Sombrio Loam Shoes are available in White or Mineral Grey.

Best hidden gem of a bike shoe

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:True to size

Comfy, grippy, and what a deal! The mid feels protective around my ankles. My feet slip in quite easily. They feel comfortable enough to drive, walk, and hike-a-bike. The sole is flexible enough for walking and monkey gripping my pedals, but stiff enough for all day pedaling. Can't really say that about clunky shoes with Stealth rubber. I've used these on pedals with set screws for pins and shin eating machined pins. Sombrio's version of a "waffle" design really catches onto the pins. Easy to move around the pedal as well. Have not slipped a pedal in my 6+ months of abuse that included multiple weekends at the bike park and one DH race. Color options might look too bright for others, but I like it. I think it goes well with jeans too. It is easy to clean by the way.
