Ditch the strap.

Save yourself the hassle and discomfort of attaching a chest strap and pick up the Soleus Pulse Heart Rate Monitor Watch, which takes readings directly off your wrist so you'll never need to fuss with a strap again. The Pulse provides more than full functionality, too, with features like a 3D accelerometer, distance and pace calculators, a step counter, calorie counter, interval timer, and enough data storage to hold info from 30 runs of 100 laps each. The battery's rechargeable, and there are useful everyday features like a chronograph, backlight, alarms, and 30m water resistance that let the Pulse work as well when you're going to work as it does when you're training for your next 5K.

Absolute Garbage

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: one size

First and foremost, the whole point of these types of watches is to track your work out. I've used 3 different watches that all tell me my run is the same distance, same steps, with in a very close amount of each other. This watch is about 2 to 3 tenths of a mile off every mile you run, ridiculouse. The built in heart monitor is a GREAT feature, except it isn't remotely close to accurate, told me I was 104 when i was actually 162, actually kind of dangerous if you trust it. It has a ton of "neat"/"most useless" functionality, so much so that it takes 10 minutes to figure out how to get it to show and do what you want. This watch is absolute garbage, buy something else.
