Description

One sharp end instead of three.

While you won’t be stirring the ocean’s currents or issuing judgment on passing sea-goers with SOG’s Trident Knife, you will be able to take care of any task you can think of with its locking technology and versatile blade. The Trident isn’t stupid-proof, but it’s close. Once you engage the pass-through bar, S.A.T. (SOG Assisted Technology) uses opposing, high-tension coil springs to open and lock the blade, and the color-coded safety lock makes safety even more of a no-brainer. The Trident’s groove handle offers protected, un-opened access to the knife blade—great for cutting ropes and fishing line. The belt clip on the handle provides great stow-on-the-go access. SOG’s Digi-Grip pattern and lightweight Zytel handle offer dependable grip even when wet.

Love this knife!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This knife is great. Everybody should have a knife when they go into the backcountry. This knife is perfect because it's lightweight without compromising on durability. The SAT allows for easy one handed operation. The belt clip is great and allows the knife to ride low inside your pocket. I haven't found a real use for the groove handle. It's a bit too narrow for cutting paracord. It works fine with fishing line, but with anything else it's just better to open it up and allow it to work.

Great knife

This is a great product for anyone who loves fishing and is into everything outdoors. It is a very universal knife that will live up to SOG`s reputation.

Very sharp

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I was worried this thing wouldn't be sharp out of the box... well it is. Almost cut myself! It' light weight and the groove to have the rope cutter is quite nice. Also having a belt clip is a definite plus! Sturdy, Light, great for backpacking.

Favorite pocket knife

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This knife is great, I've carried it with me almost everyday for the past 3 years and though its seen alot of action the blade is razor sharp and there is zero play in the handle. Its light weight and very well made. This is the best folding knife I've ever owned.

Great everyday knife

I take this useful little tool everywhere with me. Fits great on the inside of the pocket with the belt clip and the safety lock prevents me from pulling a Plaxico Burress (knife version) and carving up my own leg. Chord cutter on the knife comes in handy when you need a quick cut without opening the knife. Honestly only used this to pull tags off of stuff so far, but it's fun nonetheless. Used it many times camping for food prep as well. Great little knife and even better when you can get it on sale.

How do u sharpen the knife at home is it...

How do u sharpen the knife at home is it hard to sharpen or very easy

Responded on

It kind of depends on the knife and type of blade. Knifes with stainless steel blades are generally a little easier to sharpen. I would recommend getting a diamond stone (a sharpening stone made with bits of diamond) to start. Hold the knife at the angle so the sharp part of the blade is flat against the stone. Move it in a circular motion as if you're trying to slice very thin slices off the stone. Make sure to do each side evenly.

I am very good at many many things. I have never picked up the knack for sharpening a blade well. I think its an art and you have to do a lot of it to become good at it.

EH - I completely understand your comments about sharpening being an art. My father was one of those artists who could put different edges on a blade just by feel with a whetstone or crock-sticks. I didnt inherit that talent, but there is a completely foolproof way to get a perfect edge on any blade, down to the degree. It's the lansky sharpening system (hopefully BC will allow me to post products). It's cheap, easy, quick, and even my dad switched to it after using mine.

PS - i have the camo tanto blade version of the trident and it's become my go to knife.

Great Knife!

I rarely take the time to write reviews on anything, but I gotta say - I love this knife. I've never spend this much on a knife before, but it is worth every penny. I got the black one and every time I see it and pick it up, it feels like Christmas or something. It only took a few minutes to get the hang of kind of flipping the blade out with my thumb (using the little knob) - smooth and fast, but totally safe. You won't regret buying this bad boy :-)

Second Trident owned

I have owned both versions of the Trident. I'm a scout pilot who needs gear that will work in combat so that's how I evaluate equipment.

Pros:
Lightweight
good feel in hand
beefy blade
cord cutter
Assisted Open
looks mean

Cons:
the lateral play in the blade

The knife is good for light duty, but I wouldn't feel comfortable ditching my fixed blade and only carrying the Trident. This knife would get 5 stars if the blade was more secure like my CRKT M-16 SF, but that knife doesn't have assisted opening. I do get a lot of complements on the look of the Trident.

Good Applications for this knife would be camping, hunting, or last ditch self defense / evasion and escape. Not appropriate for primary survival or self defense.

Trident for Life

Simply the best knife I have ever owned. I love knives and buy a lot but the Trident is my go to knife for just about everything. I have owned this knife for well over 3 years now. It has gutted fish, cut up boxes, widdled wood, and so much more. The S.A.T. is awesome, as close to a switch blade as you can get, yet you are protected with a locking mechanism to prevent unintentional opening of the blade. this bad boy is SUPER light as well which makes it perfect for backpacking, it will never weigh you down in any situation. The casing has a nice pattern of bumps that makes it look bad ass, and adds a nice grip to the knife. This is the go to knife any day of the week.

I have a SOG Trident, I suppose it will need sharpening at some point in time. Is there anything published that demonstrates the proper way to sharpen the knife?

SOG Trident

I have carried a pair of SOG Powerpliers Multi-Tool for eight years on fishing and hiking trips and they have held up amazingly well. So when I needed a new folding knife I went right back to SOG. The Trident was definitly the right choice. The Trident is extremely light for the size of the blade and I have found that the recurved bowie style blade is better for most tasks than a stright edge. The handle is very grippy and the arc lock makes one handed closing of the blade a lot safer than liner locks. The only draw back is that there is a little bit of blade play, but that is normal for an assisted opening knife.

SOG rocks

Best knife I have ever owned! This knife is razor sharp out of the box and holds a great edge. I use this knife for an all around knife when I'm hunting/camping etc. I like the feature of being able to cut rope without having to open the knife. The assisted opening device works fantastically as well. If you're looking for a sharp, dependable, great all around knife....look no further!

SOg is the best

I love SOG knifes. I have yet to break 1. The come RAZOR sharp and r designed beautifully. I love the clips they have, they make the knife sit nice and low in the pocket so that they don't get caught on things. Lots of SOG knifes r also used and designed for the military, so the r meant to last. Bottom line is if u want the best production knife u can get, get SOG.

My daily carry knife

I bought this knife for daily carry and adventure races. I like the spring loaded assist and the mechanical safety for when I do not anticipate needing the knife in a quick defensive manner. It is extremely light weight, sharp, and fairly well constructed. The cord cut capability without opening the blade is excellent for use with 550 cord. I recommend this knife if you are in the market for a mid price knife that will see field work. I like knives with both standard and serrate blades. For me, this is the best of both worlds.
