"What the hell is that?"

I just got this and have been using it on the GigaPower stove. When I first pulled it out my client didn't understand what it was until I started boiling water for my tea.

Someone else commented on the igniter spark traveling to the windscreen and not to the stove head.. They are correct. Mine alternates between the windscreen and stove head. Where without it on the stove the first click always lit. Now it is either two or three clicks before it fires up. Still works but it does seem to affect the igniter.

For $10 bucks it definitely seems like a good deal and makes the stove more efficient.

Does the trick!

Pretty heavy duty, fits like a charm, and does a great job reflecting heat.

One thing of note: This windscreen fits PERFECTLY inside of the GSI Dualist cookset. Couldn't fit better is GSI made it themselves. If you are using a dualist as your cook kit, then this is the windscreen for you. You will not be disappointed!

Does its job

This thing works, but it has one flaw: weight. I use the titanium GigaPower, and would purchase a titanium windscreen in an instant. I know, its not that heavy, but when the rest of the cookset is titanium, the difference is obvious. It also nests the Snow Peak 900 perfectly (the 900 fits "in" the windscreen, it does not fit in the 900), which is nice.

Does its job

Works great. Fits right in.

This thing helps a ton on cooking things faster and conserving fuel and fits right inside my Snow Peak Titanium Cookware set, and I can even fit my stove, lighter, and salt and pepper shaker underneath it.

Some have said it's hard to put together with the Piezo stove but I've had no problems.

Works great. Fits right in.

self explanitory

It is a windscreen that goes with the gigapower stove. It works pretty well. Buy it.

This is .6 oz version made from a snow peak trek titanium bowl using stainless version as template.

original good, titanium better

This piece saves fuel, boils faster, and works in the wind. That said; it is heavy and is tricky to install on the stove when you're cold and and tired. Can't do much about the install....but, if you use this as a template, you can cut one out of the snow peak titanium trek bowl ($15.95) that weighs .6 oz instead of 2 oz. All you need is a dremel with a cutting wheel (you'll go through about 5 heavy duty discs) and grinding stone as well as a steady hand and some patience. Just finished mine- STURDY, LIGHT and works as well as the heavy stainless original. Wish Snow Peak would manufacture one and save the hassle.

Works!

This windscreen works very nicely with the gigapower stove and it fits right inside the titanium mess kit. THey designed a perfect system!

Gigapower stove, windscreen, and etapower pots

I use a gigapower titanium stove, windscreen, with eta power pots for summer here in AK. Works great, I extend it's range to fall and late spring because of the setup is so efficient. I just sleep with the canister in my sleeping bag. The problem is really cold temps, the canisters don't work because the fuel won't vaporize into a gas. So I use the etapower pots with my dragonfly stove for winter. But the gigapower stove, gigapower windscreen and etapower pots are the best three season setup I know of.

Not for GigaPower Litemax

Be aware that this does not fit the GigaPower Litemax stove.

Great accessory for Gigapower

This windscreen does exactly what it is supposed to. Probably doesn't justify itself for those counting ounces, but I found it to be valuable at 10,000 feet in the Uinta mountains when cooking. It helped channel the flames to save on fuel consumption, and it fits snug inside of the Snow Peak cookset for stowing. FYI, it will become instantly discolored once you use it but it still functions fine. I agree with the previous reviewer also, Snow Peak should make two versions: one Piezo and one for the manual ignitions. It is a bit tricky to fit it on the first few times, but you can get it dialed by adjusting the arms on the stove. Overall, a nice accessory for saving fuel.

Doesnt really work

This windscreen doesnt really work. I tested this windscreen under controlled conditions and it simply does not prevent any breeze greater than 10mph from greatly effecting the boil times of water using the gigapower stove and a titanium sp 750ml pot. A simple piece of foil going from the ground up to about half way the height of the pot is whats needed. If you dont believe me, try this yourself, using a small fan. There are plenty of other reviews out on the net substantiating the lack of effectivenesss of this windscreen. One reviewer, suggested that this windscreen was the company's compromise/ solution to the notorious problem of wind with cannister stoves and the legal difficulty of suggesting or developing full coverage windscreens with upright cannister stoves. In addition to the above, if you have the piezo starter, you may have difficulty using the ignitor because the spark tends to gap to the windscreen instead of the stove jet.

Pretty Simple

Pretty Simple. It works great on my GigaPower Stove and 2.1L Primus EtaPower Pot which nestles down to conceal the flame form the wind very well. 4 starts because I have to mess with the pot supports it to get it on and off the stove.

nice little addition

i hate the tin foil windscreens. i'm always knocking them with something. so i was stoked when i found out that they made a custom fit screen for the gigapower. i haven't done any tests or anything to see if it makes a weight difference with saved fuel, but it sure made up for any weight it may add with the lack of annoyance and ease of use.

always packing it now.

Yep, works good on my Giga, definitely helps. Just got to make sure it's seated right, not sure why but a couple of times the screen gets tilted after I fire up the stove and put the pot on, not a biggie.

Essential Gear for Giga Power

You don't have to be a physics major to figure out that you will save fuel when using this windscreen for your Giga Power. Even in Zero wind conditions it reflects heat toward the pot. I always use it. It fits snugly under my Trek 900 pot for travel.
There is a riveted flap that you can slide to the side to allow the Piezo igniter to protrude up from the base of the screen. My Giga Power does not have the Piezo and the rivet was scratching the bottom of my Trek 700 when stored for travel. I have to use a piece of cloth to prevent that and it was a little annoying. I'm a purist and I called Snow Peak and recommended they make two versions of the windscreen, one for stoves with Piezos and one for those without.

used this with the Manuel gigapower stove fits fine worked like a champ in strong consistent wind all weekend with large canister a must buy product

WOW, I'm impressed. I've never used a windscreen with a canister stove before, but after reading this and seeing the images I'm going to give it a try...!! Thanks..!!

Quick Easy Solution

This is a trim easy to add wind screen that reduces the effects of wind on your flame. We used in 20mph winds the first time and it made quite a difference in helping maintain flame integrity. It is probably not as good as a large piece of flashing standing up all around the whole stove , gas can and pot but is much easier to have along all of the time.

Responded on

Be careful surrounding the whole stove, gas canister and pot with a 360 degree solid metal screen-- If the screen doesn't let enough heat out, your fuel canister can heat up dangerously. You can imagine the results. One of the great things about this screen is, since it is flat, that it packs down super-efficiently like the stove itself. And it does a great job with minimal material which equals minimal weight. Top notch engineering even in a tiny accessory like this!

Gigapower Stoves ONLY...!

Be aware: this windscreen will only work with the gigapower stove. I have a Northern Lights, and the pot supports are different.

Reduce fuel use

In backyard tests in light winds this windscreen reduced the amount of fuel needed to boil a cold half liter of water from 15 grams to 13 grams. Not enough savings for the weight of the item in my pack.

Responded on

you bought this screen for the wrong reason if you can only justify carrying it based on the amount of fuel saved in "light (read...non-measured) winds" while boiling one pot of water! Leave the stove at home if that's all the cooking you'll be doing anyway! If you winter camp, use your stove in anything other than "light winds", and for anything other than boiling one pot of water, this windscreen is well worth it's weight...if you disagree, than you're too much of a weight weenie to be using canister stoves anyway.
