Smith created the Variant Snow Helmet for numbskulls like you who go so big on the snow they can't take chances with their headwear. The hybrid construction's tough ABS/InMold PC shell and EPS liner offers high-impact absorption for those “I bet you can't” moments. You know your goggles won't fog up, thanks to the Variant's AirEvac 2 technology. Three-stage adjustable ventilation offers easy climate control, so you can act like a fool without getting overheated.
Very nice helmet. Works great in varying conditions due to excellent venting. Lower profile avoids the bubble-head look of some helmets. Only bad things are minimal padding on inside and a little heavier than my previous helmet: Giro 9. Overall I love it.
Great venting and airflow through the multiple vents. This one is built to take any knocks that you may get and is super rad. The low profile fit is great especially for spring riding. Get out there and do it!
The photos show two distinctly different colors for the "matte chocolate/tan" helmet. If I order one, will I get the lighter tan (the one shownin the detail photos) or the darker?

I carry around a mellon that is really tough to fit into helmets. The fit adjustment feature on the Variant solved my problems. Very comfortable, good venting (although I did experience some fogging on occasion), and it proved to be toasty warm during ridiculously cold 60mph winds at the top of the world on a recent trip to Chile ... which is especially important because the storm hood on my over-priced shell won't fit over the helmet.
I wear prescription glasses under my Smith Goggles. The variant helment works perfectly, fits great and is warm. So nice to have a helment that coordinates with the goggles thanks. Phillis
the adjustment feature works well to customize the fit. i've had no problems with fogging. the vents work well to keep you cool. when riding in spring the ear pads come off, although it takes some work to get them off and you will need to adjust the chin strap significantly once the pads are off. light enough not to have bobble head.
Purchased for my very particular minded son. He loves the fact that the black is matte not shiny, has a great shape with not too flashy stripes. If he has to wear a helmet, this one makes it less of a hardship.
I bought this helmet after ~10 years in a Red that needed to be retired. It fits well compared to others I've tried, (I generally lean toward the fit of Giros), it's comfy. I like the ear pieces and can hear well. Only gripes are it's going to scuff very easily (white, but I knew that...) and I get a bit of the gaper gap feeling with my Prodigys. No, you can't see the gap, but there is some definite air flow due to the way they set up the venting to keep goggs from fogging. Overall, fantastic helmet!
This is my first helmet and I have no complaints. Keeps the noggin fully protected and doesn't feel like I'm wearing a helmet. My Smith gogs fit perfectly over them.
Sm = too small; Med = too big. I'm not goldilocks, but this helmet's fit isn't remotely as good as the fit of a Giro helmet (which has the back-of-head adjustable feature). Too bad because I usually really like other smith products.
This is a fine helmet. comfortable, functional, easy to use. the fit adjustment is great when adding insulation to the head and the venting is great as well. would purchase again and recommend this product.
Spent three days straight in this helmet and have no complaints. Kept me warm when I needed it, and I opened the vents when I needed to cool off. Very comfortable and lightweight, it does not even feel like you are wearing a helmet at all. Great helmet, I highly recommend it!!
Love the matte look and the outer vent adjustment. Used to more padding but the adjustable sizing does well. Used it at the end of the season so might need a cap liner for the really cold temps to feel warmer. Overall, very pleased!
Used this helmet for months of Montana powdered glades. Great adjustable fit allows for balaclava or not. Toasty warm with vents closed. With them open I don't even feel like I've a helmet on. Took some tough head shots with no damage to nut or shell. Perfect fit, no gap, with Smith and Uvex goggles. Go for it!
