very impressed with this helmet. Theres nothing worse then a heavy helmet to make your huck neck last an extra 3 days. By contrast, the variant is WAY light. fits great too! ideal with smith goggles but I think most will fit it well.
After years of being a loyal Giro user, I made the switch. Excellent. Fits perfect and easily adjustable. I like the no-visor/brim. Easy to flip goggles up. Even forgot to close the vents on a cold/wind day and so warm I didn't notice. Super light, too.

Great fit, great ventilation with easy access to open and close the vents. No brim is the way to go with goggles so you can put your goggles up without it flipping over the top. Fits well with the Smith goggles.
Smith Variant helmet with Oakley A-frame goggles. There is a bit of a gap on each side, but not enough to really notice unless its absolutely freezing outside.
These helmets are great. Just skied at Whistler in cold rainy/snowy conditions, and the helmets were warm, comfortable and light. Fitted well with the older Smith goggles we already owned. The adjustment at the back of the helmet was very useful, as you could get the fit exactly right.
Recently purchased this helmet (my first helmet). Before purchasing I had tried the helmet on in a store in size L and it seemed to fit great. I've now received my helmet but now the fit seems a little bit tight compared to the one I tried on at the store. So my question is: do brand new helmets require some time to break in? Maybe the display one I tried in the store had been tried by many people and the padding had soften a bit? Thanks.
Hey Andrew thanks for your response. By "fit system" I assume you're refering to the adjustment at the back of the helmet. I've actually set this at it's largest setting already (ie.all the way out both sides)!
It's possible that it is packed out a little, but my best guess is that you haven't got the fit system right where you need it. Take it into your shop and have them show you how to use the fit system.
I bought this helmet at a slope side store but was relieved when I looked today that I paid about the same as Backcountry. This is my 2nd helmet and I am very happy with it. Lightweight and warm or cool, depending on the ventilation. I skied from 10-4 today and the temps ranged from 40 to 15 degrees throughout the day and I was comfortable the entire day. I wear them with my Heiress goggles and on really cold/windy days I notice a small gap between them and my helmet, so I'm looking for a different set of goggles. I have tossed on a thin hat or one of those head/neck warmers and felt fine.
This is a good helmet, doesnt fit the best with my goggles, but not bad. It isnt too hot/cold with its vent system. I did manage a concussion last year when wearing this, but I hit really hard on ice so I cant blame the helmet. Comfortable...and as we all know, if you dont wear it its useless....wear your helmet.
This is my first helmet purchase and I could not be happier. I was in between sizing (Small and Medium) right on the border of the two sizes so, I got the Medium and it fits perfect. I can even put a thin hat or liner under it if I want. I have not used it yet but, I love the fact that is has a ton of vents that you can open or close depending on the weather. It even came with a helmet bag. Smith is a great company that has great products. I am now a loyal Smith and backcountry customer for life!!! I got a great deal on it through backcountry during a sale too. Waht is better than saving a little cash while protecting the noggin.
This helmet is awesome and you can not go wrong with it. It's super warm in the snow so no beanie required with it. It's super durable and the Skullcandy audio is just a bonus. You won't regret getting this fantastic helmet.
I'v got orange/white/yellow(a little bit) colored goggles and was wondering if the black or the white helmet would look cooler with them. (pic of the goggles on my profile)
This is my third helmet since beginning wearing one 10 years ago. Both previous helmets never seemed to fit well and I was conscious of it throughout the day. This helmet, in contrast, fits great. It comfortably fits around my skull, rather than feeling like it sits on top. The drawback though is too much air circulation, even with the vents closed, at temperatures below 10 F. To compensate, buy this helmet large enough to accommodate a medium weight balaclava on the coldest days. Even my thin balaclava was not enough on a 3 F day, such was the air circulation. On the upside, I think this helmet will be comfortable, with vents open, even when the temps are pushing 40 F.
3rd Helmet I have ever owned. Prior to the Variant I have used high end Giro and POC helmets. This helmet is the best looking helmet of the three as I don't look like a "storm trooper" from star wars. The helmet is comfortable and the ventilation just right! My head didn't seem to overheat like it did with the other helmets.
Looking for some feedback on a color - Metallic Burgundy. I am looking at it on a Mac laptop so assuming that the color, if true to the screen, would be a deep brown/red. Trying to stay away from boring black and this seemed to be a nice compromise. Thanks.
Used the helmet with Phenom googles on a cold and windy day in the Alps. The helmet was warm and very light. In addition it fits perfectly well (I got a medium with my head being 59cm) and looks really great specialy with the Phenom googles. I highly recommend this helmet.
