I'm looking for a helmet with integrated bluetooth for our ocean-rescue team. We launch waverunners into sometimes high surf, so it will have to be very waterproof and quite durable. Would this be available on the open market or should I contact a manufacturer about some specialty. Surely we aren't the only ones looking for something like this.

You would probably have to contact Smith directly to present this idea. They do have an elite/military division thats probably the best place to get any further information on what they can do for you. Also I would look into contacting one of the kayak helmet manufactures. They might be down to design something like that. Good luck.

Bluetooth is wireless. The regular audio you still have to run a wire to your helmet from whatever Audio device you're using.

The plastic piece that covers the foam on the front (forehead) part of the helmet will slice you up.
If it doesn't knock you out !! Still cool looking helmet, but not safe ...........

Ignore this review...I personally had a snowmobile roll ontop of me with this helmet on and came out just fine, plus one minor scratch, Great helmet.

I am sure that a lot of these helmets have been sold. Has anyone else found a problem with the bluetooth? I had my helmet out for the first time today and found my music cutting in and out all day. On some runs I couldn't even tell what song was playing! The temp was around -10F. Do you think that could have made a difference?

this answer won't make you that happy but it is the truth:
blue tooth is not designed to penetrate a person's body.
on those bumpy runs and high-movement cold days try to
carry your phone/mp3 player on the SAME side of your body
as the transmitter in the helmet and also higher up on your body.
It should cut out the interruptions a bit. Also, try not to move so much (kidding)

I have this helmet with the plantronics bluetooth and mine also cuts in out sometimes. It seems to skip usually when its cold (25f or colder) and if its a bumpy run or on a landing (off a kicker). I think its just something we have to deal with. Smith support was NOT very helpful and just had me chasing my own tail for help. Other than that, its warm, safe, and efficient. Can't complain (too much).
