Great comfortable helmet, great fit

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a great helmet and I recommend it to anyone looking for a helmet. The venting is great. Never too warm or too cold you can open or close two different shutters for a super personalized experience. The fit perfectly with the Smith I/07 goggles (which are also great). The adjustable fit is also great to make the helmet as tight as possible without being restrictive.

My Favorite Helmet

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have tried several brands (bern, R.E.D, smith) and this one was the best fit and price for all the features. I use the vents all the time, so the helmet works well as a spring and a storm helmet. It dose not feel heavy on my head and it itagrates well with my POC lobes (goggles) so i don't have any gaper gap. I really value the silver lining (pun intended) that keeps my hippy hair from stinkin up the inside of this brain bucket. After two seasons the helmet still looks almost new.

I'm going to buy the Outdoor Tech Chips Wireless Bluetooth Helmet Headphones to go into the integrated headphone earmuffs.

Saved my life

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Last February I hit a tree in a very lame part of the ski run. I ended up with occipital condyle fracture due to the whiplash effect of the impact. I believe this helmet saved my life. The top part of the helmet detached as it is designed to do so when my head was bouncing around between the trees.... I'm buying the new model for 2015/2016. The irony is that I bought this helmet by mistake. I dint even know the brand since this was my first helmet ever and ashamed to call my self an advanced skier.

Just buy one!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Super comfortable fit and warm, and when it does get bitterly cold you can adjust the size to add a layer. The vents easily open and close and the boa adjusts easily without removing your gloves. I put my old helmet back on for comparison sake and I couldn't believe how much more comfortable this one is. Wish I would've spent the extra money sooner.

Can't be beat

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This helmet is so lightweight and adjustable that I can't fathom wearing another model. The boa-fit system allows the helmet to contour to YOUR head without any pinch points, and the numerous vents (which can be opened/closed in multiple configurations) leave you comfortable regardless of how cold or warm it is outside.

Great helmet!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is my second Vantage helmet, I upgraded when the Koroyd model was released. Much lighter than the previous version and, the revised BOA system improves overall fit. Vents are easy to operate, even when wearing gloves or mitts. Low profile look too. I paired the Smith IOX goggle with the helmet, they work exceptionally well as a unit; no gaps and great airflow. As the top of the line Smith helmet, it's not inexpensive but, it's worth every penny.

Is the large actually a large? I have a fairly big head that is oval shaped (narrower side-to-side than front-to-back), measuring hat size 7-5/8. Can anyone recommend this helmet to fit large heads? Thanks.

Responded on

I have a fairly large hat size too (7 and 3/8 I think) and the large fits great with some room for adjustment, so I think the large would fit you too.

Smith Vantage Helmet

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This helmet is very lightweight and looks cool. The helmet fits great and has a dial that you can adjust on the back of the helmet to adjust it tighter if needed. The vents are easy to open when your head get too hot. The helmet fits well with my goggles and there's little to no gap. One complaint I have with the helmet is when you take your goggles off your eyes and try and place them on the helmet sometime they do not stay on the helmet and the goggle slides off. The visor on the helmet causes the googles to sit funny and sometimes the slide off. (This only happened when I was carrying my helmet around and not when I was wearing it.) Another observation I have is during one of the days that I was wearing the helmet my head was very itchy. It only has happened once, so I'm not sure if its the helmet or me so I'm not going to mark it down in the ratings.
Overall my favorite parts of this helmet are the great fit, the lightweight and easy ventilation.

WELL WORTH IT

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Smith's most expensive helmet but well worth it, vents slide smooth, unlike some of the others I've tried, and it fits my giant dome comfortably. Great design, great fit.

Most important piece of equipment...

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Why cheap out on the most important piece of equipment? This helmet is everything I could ask for in a helmet; breathable, adjustable, and cutting edge with the aerocore material. Worth the little extra money.

One small complaint...

I like this helmet. The vents are easy to control (though it'd be nice if all of them could be closed...there are some at the back which aren't controllable). The places for speakers are well thought-out, and when you want to vent, this helmet vents very well.

My one complaint of note is that when I move my goggles off my eyes and up onto the helmet, they don't want to stay in place. Some higher ridges on the side of the helmet would help with that, as would lowering the goggle strap retainer on the back of the helmet.

Do you have any Medium Matte Black coming in?

Hi Micah,
Unfortunately we do not have any more of the Matte Black/M ordered to come in. Sorry about that!

Will you have any Matte Black in Large coming in soon?

Great helmet. The adjustable vents are amazing! I wear this helmet in all sorts of conditions. It is comfortable every time. Long gone are the days of itchy sweaty head. It is slim, light, and comfortable.

The only drawback is the adjustable boa in the back. My hood will sometimes rub against the dial and make unwanted changes. I think they have addressed this in the newer, currently available version.

Hi,
Are you expecting to get orange in size Medium in the near future? Thank you!

Will you have the Matt Cobalt in size S anytime soon?

I just found out that you don't ship to Europe anyways, so that won't help me...

Awesome helmet w Anon M2!

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I went through two helmets before discovering the Vantage. This helmet is AWESOME. I had an older mutiny, then bought the anon Halo. I used the helo for a day and was miserable w it. The vantage pairs perfectly w Anon M2 goggles. Zero gap. Zero air leaks. The vented brim is brilliant. I feel like this keeps the airflow moving keeping it from not trapping vapor. I used this on high moisture powder days and had no fogging. The Helmet was very warm in very cold vt temps 1-5 degrees w vents shut. Its very light. It's fit is lower profile than the anon helmets so your head doesn't look like a bulb. Goggle strap secure and routing is perfect. You can tell a lot of thought went into this helmet. It's worth it's price.

One thing could use improvement. The gromit for the exit of the audio wire is right under a strap.

Superior Fit and Ventilation

After many years of use it was time to retire my Bern Helmet. Since I've been using Smith goggles for several years and testing the integration in store this was an obvious choice.

The Good

Fit: The Vantage comes in 4 sizes from 51-67cm and includes the Boa fit system. My Bern had absolutely no adjustability of the liner aside from adding a few pads and never fit completely snugly. This helmet fits like it should and sinks down onto the head like a glove. With a quick twist of the Boa you can dial in that perfect level of snugness. The helmet is nice and low profile, not to mention lightweight.

Ventilation: The biggest problem I had with my Bern aside from a slightly imperfect fit was goggle integration. Medium helmets seemed to integrate poorly with the curvature of my goggles and as a result led to slight gaper gap. I could care less about the slight gap style wise, but hiking in foul weather this is a killer as your goggles tend to fog very quickly.

Smith goggles integrate perfectly with their helmet line ( I have the I/O ) and the Air-Evac helps take dumped heat around the foam at the top of the goggle and bring it overhead and out the top. Even in brutal cold I have no problems with fogging booting up 1200' couloirs. The dual regulator lets you choose front, back, or both for ventilation. I particularly like dual open when hiking, front closed when skiing in slightly warmer weather, and both closed if its downright brutal.

The Bad

Camera Mounting: A great deal of thought was put into the Smith Forefront Bike helmet with a recessed slot for action camera mounting. On the vantage in size medium I've found its impossible to mount a GoPro with the traditional flat or curved 3M mounts, going so far as to use several types of superglues and epoxies to keep the mounts stuck. I did not ding Smith for this because the helmet functions completely as it should as a safety device, but it would be nice to see this detail addition in the future.

Saved my noggin from a tree this weekend. Thanks Smith
