Just what i needed!
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
My Smith I/O goggles are old first generation lacking a silicon bead on the strap. I have a RED HiFi MIPS helmet which is huge with helmet clip located dead center at the back.
This product solved two problems, first and foremost by expanding the strap, the goggles and helmet fit 100X better all around.
Secondly it allows the strap to slide securely into the helmet's goggle clip keeping the strap where it should be on the helmet. No more checking and repositioning to keep it from sliding down off the helmet to the nape of my neck (helmet contours pretty much kept it from a slingshot up and off).
Although the newer I/O silicon beaded strap would still be useful, now i don't have a pressing need to replace a otherwise perfectly good pair of goggles.
Very happy i found this on your site, had no idea such a simple and effective product even existed!
Smith Helmet Helper
Great device. My Ledum Helmet would not work with the new Smith Gogles. The Helmet Helper solved the problem and worked great on our first ski trip.
Smith Universal Helmet Helper
This takes care of two issues: extends the strap length for a better fit on a helmet and also eliminates the "clip" that allows the strap to separate, this clip is in the middle of the strap and definately in the way when using a helmet with a "strap keeper".
Works great with IO and Phenom, I ordered three, definately recommend.
Solves Helmet FIt Issue
The helmet helper works. It adds just enough length to a goggle strap to fit comfortably with a helmet. The product that I got did not have a gap in the strap loops. All you have to do is make a cut with a good pair of scissors close to the location shown in the product picture and you're golden. Smith should really include this with their helmets or goggles... the way it is now it is almost like a dirty secret.
Not as advertised
This product is not as shown in the picture. The side pieces are not split in the middle, so you have to replace your original strap clip pieces with the ones that are provided. Even when I did that, I didn't feel like the clips attached to the extension piece securely. If it still looked like the one in the picture, I think it would have worked great. :(
Keep My Eyeballs In Place
Works as advertised. Was simple to install; did not require cutting of the existing buckle as Smith's video (which I believe has been removed from their site) illustrates on my Cariboo PMT goggles. Makes the goggles fit so much better over a helmet.
this strap extender was easy to install and does exactly what it's supposed to. I'm happy with it and glad I have one.
Helmet strap extension
If you have a pair of goggles with a tight fit when used with a helmet, this extender is perfect for you. Easy to follow directions and simple installation.
Will this work with goggles that are not...
Will this work with goggles that are not smith?
How universal is the "Smith Universal...
How universal is the "Smith Universal Helmet Helper"? I have a pair of Scott goggles with no clips in the middle of the strap - just a single, continuous strap that adjusts at one side. Will the "Helmet Helper" work with my goggle. I don't mind cutting the strap if needed.
It just clips on to the strap of your current goggles, no cutting required, unless you have a crazy thick strap for some reason.
Does this work with the heiress goggle?
Does this work with the heiress goggle?
No, it didn't work with mine. I think Smith makes a different version specifically for the heiress and anthem, but backcountry isn't selling it.
