Pow day review

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share

My husband purchased these for me to replace stolen snowboard equipment. I had Smith Prodigy goggles (which are no longer made) with the regular sensor mirror so I decided to give these a try (with the Red Sensor Mirror). I took these out on a still dumping big pow day and they worked great. There were a few flat light moments in which I couldn't see but my husband (had different lenses on) had issues in the same areas at Snowbird. Multiple face shots and no issues with build up on the lens or clogging on the foam (no ventilation issues - my vents were closed the whole time). My husband also sprayed me while my goggles were on my helmet getting snow inside and there were no issues after a quick wipe out and hitting the slopes again.
These work great with a helmet. They fit easily around the helmet and allowed me room for adjustment. The size of these Prophecy goggles are a little smaller than the Prodigy's were, which is great because I have a smaller face.

Meets my needs

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I live in a suburban community, and walk 2.5 miles a day -- rain or shine, hot or cold. In the worst cold, I've tried to wear something over my nose and mouth (balaclava), but couldn't because my glasses would fog over. Either I needed to walk "blind", or just deal with a cold face. What to do? These goggles solve my problem! They do fit over my glasses, the corners of the frames cause a small indentation in the foam on each side, so you have to be careful in removing the goggles, or you pull your glasses off as well. But, they work! And they allow air flow through a series of slots at the top of the frame. I can successfully cover nose and mouth, wear the ventilated goggles, and I can easily stay out in well below zero weather! While this an unusual use for goggles of this type, they do what I need them to do. For me, they are a great find.

OTG in name only

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

On this site and on the Smith site, they brag about what a great fit these goggles provide for all styles of eyeglasses. Rubbish! As soon as I pulled these out of the box, it was evident that they would not fit any sort of eyeglass frame - unless you wear the ones that are actually narrower than your face. The Smith web site even notes "temple relief" in the goggle foam to accommodate the eyeglass frame. There is none. When I slid these over my generic wire frames (and I have a narrow face), there were BIG creases in the foam. I can't believe how many people claim these fit well over their glasses. A swing and a miss by Smith on this product.

My glasses don't fit!

These look like good goggles, but they definitely won't work with either my regular glasses or sunglasses.

I am disappointed and now don't really believe the eyeglass compatible rating on this site.

Lime Green

Lime Green

I bought green specifically because everyone else has grey and black. This way when I'm totally slaying it the hotties in the lodge will know its me for sure. Also, makes it easy so my kids can locate me and totally cramp my style.

Fixes fashion faux pas

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I'd been rocking the 80s look--with some sweet Oakleys sunglasses paired with my awesome lime green helmet. That was until my young friend asked where I kept my time machine, were those Guess jeans I was wearing, and did I drive a four cylinder BMW convertible?

Message received, I bought these prophecy goggles. I picked them because they were on sale and I'm not picky about fashion (but you already knew that). Thing is they are comfy, fit over my rather chunky plastic glasses, and they have effectively eliminated my Rip Van Winklish style choices.

These are great goggles and they make me look great as I take some totally tubular runs while rocking Bon Jovi and David Lee Roth. Huey Lewis too!

Don't judge, but I'm thinking these goggles...

Don't judge, but I'm thinking these goggles will be an excellent addition to my POKER wardrobe. Of course, a poker room is significantly dimmer than a ski slope, so I would like to know the best configuration of a pair of OTG goggles for use in an artificially lit room, where I DO want to hide my eyes, presumably by using a mirrored lens.

Also, can goggles like these be worn with sport-style headphones (behind-the-head)? I usually play poker wearing a hat, shades and headphones.

I would suggest against the Smith prophecy for that purpose, unless you wear glasses, they'll fit over those.
You should get the Smith Gambler goggles!!

Great Goggles - Fits Over My Glasses

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Bought these recently but needed goggles that would fit over my glasses; these are the one; no problem, wide view and easily accommodates your prescription glasses; wide selection of different color lenses

Smith vs. Smith

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

My wife bought these as she wears glasses and bright snow conditions also bother her. Since we had a Smith helmet we went with the Smith goggles. Our thought was the top contour of the goggles would fit the brim of the helmet. NOT SO ! There is a substantial gap between the goggles and helmet. This is BIG FUN on a -20 degree day. Dear Smith, please have your helmet people get together with your goggle people........

awesome frames

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

got these goggles with the prospector set up and they are NICE! riding on the east ice coast and they perform exceptionally. from white out to fog to blue skies, I can see every detail. I would just recommend finding a second lens for night riding
Pros:
clear vision, strap stays in place over my helmet, fit snugly over glasses without pinching, extremely comfortable, do not fog or collect water, warm without being stifling.
Cons:
during bright days I've noticed a slight discoloration around my peripherals, lenses can take a bit of time to replace.
Note: I took a pretty hard fall the other day and after inspecting my equipment noticed that the lens had come loose and the top of the frame dug into my forehead.
All in all, I love these goggles and will be rocking them for years to come

That will all depend on the location of your shipping address and what shipping options are available. At the moment this goggle could be eligible for free 2-day shipping if you live in the lower 48 US. But for more information:

Great (mostly) all around goggles

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I got a pair off of DOG about a year and a half ago and man oh man are they good. I've used them every time I've gone skiing since. The fit is fantastic, they never fog, and they integrate into my venue helmet perfectly. I really like the vents built into the top in case half my face starts getting a little stifled. I have the version with the Red Sol X mirror and I love the look and clarity. These goggles are perfect in all conditions save for whiteout. I have never tried swapping the lenses before, but I always have a whiteout ready pair in my pack just in case. If you're on the fence about these though, get them. You won't regret it.

Smith all day

Here is me shreddin at Alta, UT with my Smith Prophecy's. Smith goggles typically work seamlessly with Smith helmets (I'm wearing the older version of the Variant). Lenses are very easy to pop in and out. Smith all day errry day!

Just right

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have been a fan of the IO and IOX version of Smith goggles because of their minimal frame but after getting a pair of these I was surprised by how much I like them. The frame is not bulky and very comfortable on my face and the ventilation is great, keeping them from fogging up.

Great Fit

I don't wear glasses but I still love the fit on these goggles. They have a low profile so they don't look like goggles made for glasses. Thees are my 5th pair of Prophecies I have yet to find anything that works better for a big face.

Responded on

I have the white ones with the black lenses they are great for sunny days. No more squinting ever.

Minimal fogging and frost during hard pushes up a mountain in cold weather. Great performance for the price.

Great goggles!

Wore these all day and only fogged once! I have a huge skull (size 8 hat) and these fit great and didn't look like I bummed them from a little kid! Love the vent system!

I wear rimless glasses so easy air flow around the lenses may contribute to a goggle/glasses combi that never fog whether I am AT skiing in a blizzard, pow blowing over my face or face planting. Have yet to fog them up.
