    Light and mighty.

The Smith Maze Helmet doesn't have a bunch of thingamajigs, jibjabs, and doodads, but it is a light, clean, and bombproof brain bucket that's designed to protect your head, so you can think about the next big booter, deep line, or double-kink that you're lining up. At just 12oz, it's the lightest fully certified snow helmet on the market, but it still comes with key features like a self-adjusting Lifestyle Fit System, Airflow Climate Control Vents, and removable, audio-compatible Snapfit SL2 earpads. Smith's AirEvac 2 goggle-compatible ventilation system prevents your goggles from fogging, and the PC plastic shell and EPS foam liner protect your medulla oblongata from getting rattled after a big hit.

    Keeps my head together

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I really like this helmet, it's simple and good looking. Yes, I have hit my head with this helmet and it absolutely worked for me. I personally wear it over my beanie/goggles but you can go either way. I have a lg and it fits my 7 1/2 head great. Overall great product and I will be buying another next year.

    Quality Brain Bucket

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I purchased this helmet after Bill Porreca one of the Backcountry.com gear heads recommended it. It lasted one season of hard skiing with a mix of on and off piste skiing. Great breathablility for the side-country and spring skiing but plenty warm for freezing temperatures. I enjoy the fit, it doesn't sit too high on my head. I purchased a large and it sits snug, but no pressure point that getting annoying through the day. Overall great helmet!

    Minimalist with seamless integration

Heliski guide, have used the Maze for the last 6 years. It is a perfect ultra light weight, Low volume ( You don't feel like Kazoo with a huge head) minimalist design that integrates perfectly with any smith goggle. Easy to remove ear pads (I have to take them out to use the headset in the heli) just wear a buff or light hat under neath. I prefer the white as it stays cooler on the hot spring days. I hope they never change the design. It works perfect for my needs!

      Minimalist with seamless integration

Saved my noggin from a nasty knock

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Decided to wear it on a spring skiing day when I would usually go without a helmet due to it being so warm. Caught an edge in a transition between slush and hardpack (shady spot) and fell backwards a lot farther than I normally am prepared for. I bonked right on the helmet and it really did save me from a concussion, I believe. Now I'm a committed believer!

      Great, Light Helmet.

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This helmet is one of the lighter ones out there, with simple features without getting into any unneccessary gimmicks. Fits true to size and looks good. If anything, one small downside is that ventilation isnt the best so it can get warm for those spring skiing days.

      Excellente

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This helmet is extremely light and simple. There are little amenities to confuse the user or clutter the feel of the helmet. The ear pads come out easy and extra padding goes in easy. The helmet is stylish, true to size, and comfortable.

      excellent helmet

we bought one for our son who like it so much we had to buy another one for our other son. the fit is very comfortable and they stay warm in most conditions while not making you sweat on a spring day. I would definitely recommend to a friend.

        My mom is stoked

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love the Maze helmet, it is relatively inexpensive compared to head injury bills, and will make your mom happy. It's pretty straightforward without any bells and whistles which I like, just one less thing to worry about so you can focus on snowboarding, like your vents being to the right setting or not. I would recommend not wearing a beanie underneath for sizing, and getting a thin full buff instead. That way you can wear it in the springtime when it gets hot and not have to worry about having a sloppy helmet. Drop in the Outdoor Research headphones so you can bump Snoop and get stoked!

        My mom is stoked

        best helmet i have used

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

this is my 3rd ski helmet, and it is by far the best I have bought. i removed the ears and inner lining, which on other helmets causes a good deal of "hat-wobble" (https://youtu.be/maAFcEU6atk?t=1m12s) but not on the maze - even with a beanie on, it stays in place all day. Ever important for those who prefer to minimize the gap btw helmet and goggles. Add to the fact that its very light and the chin strap actually works and is comfortable (whaaa?) and you got yourself a single quiver helmet!

        best helmet i have used

        Still the best

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've owned several Maze Helmets over the years. I still love the low profile look, super light weight, and seamless fit with Smith's goggles. While not a specific multi-impact helmet, it can take a few dings without damaging the liner. I did compress the foam on one pretty wild crash, but suffered no injury or loss of consciousness. The Maze did it's job. The low cost and high quality made it a cinch that I'd replace that helmet with a new Maze. Highly recommended.

        Low-profile, comfortable helmet

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this helmet to replace the big, bulky helmet I originally had. I wanted a helmet that wouldn't make my head look like a bug, and this does just that. It's super low-profile, fits great. The padding is really soft, comfortable, and warm. My head measured out to be a Women's Medium in most brand helmets, so I went with a Medium and it fits perfectly. I'm not giving 5 stars for two reasons -- one being that there is no screw adjuster for the circumference of helmet. You can choose between 3 different widths, and you have to take the helmet off and unsnap/snap the plastic straps to adjust. The benefit is that it cuts down on weight, but I found this to be a little annoying. My second qualm is that there are no slots for headphones in the earpads. Its great when helmets have them because you can listen to music/jam out without other people hearing but you don't have the safety issue/discomfort of headphones directly in your ears. Might be able to find a replacement insert with this feature, but I haven't looked yet. Overall, great helmet! If you're looking for a low-profile helmet that gets the job done, then this is the one for you.

        Fits Great

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This helmet barely weighs anything and fits well. I am learning to snowboard and having a comfortable helmet definitely gives me the confidence to push myself without ending up with a concussion whenever I catch edge and barrel roll down the mountain. I measured my head according to the size chart and it fits perfect. Win.

        Solid Protection

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This helmet is a great value. It's a comfortable fit, it looks great and, most importantly, it protects your head. I'm in the process of teaching myself to snowboard and I've taken a couple pretty bad bails from catching an edge and flopping downhill on my back and I haven't felt a thing. This is a great helmet for the money, especially if you have Smith goggles, as their goggles and helmets are designed to fit together very well.

One thing I would like to point out is the adjustment options. I ordered a large and when I first tried it on, I was disappointed because I thought I would have to exchange it because it was too small. After checking the adjustment, however, I was able to get a perfect fit for my head, so before you return it, make sure you have adjusted the helmet fully, as a loose helmet won't do much to protect your head.

        Looks great

        • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

Just a bit too big for me so I had to return it, but it looks great.

I have a 22.5" circum head so I'm right in the sweet spot between M and L according to the size chart. Purchased the L and it was too big.

        Husband-proof

        • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought this for my husband and he loves it!! Great shape, lightweight, and the plaid look is awesome.

Only downside is that it's super toasty and poofy so he doesn't get to wear a beanie underneath very easily. I like this feature a lot myself, so I'm giving it 5 stars hehe

        YES!

I've NEVER been a helmet wearer (I should know better, I know) but I finally caved since it was required for my work. All my friends wear this helmet so I figured I'd hop on board. I never wore a helmet before because they were all to big and bulky and gave me a headache.
The maze helmet is super low profile and lightweight, i forget I'm even wearing it.

Hello, is this helmet compatible with oakley airbrake goggles? the goggles are kinda bulky and it doesn't look like it will fit this helmet

The short answer is that yes the Maze Helmet is compatible with the Oakley Airbrakes. Smith Helmets integrate well with Oakley goggles in general from my experience and other customers’ feedback. That being said there is a small chance the set-up will not be comfortable for some people, especially if you have a higher bridge on your nose, since the Maze could create pressure on your nose when they push the goggles down. Feel free to contact me directly with any additional questions.

Does MIPS take up any room in helmets? I have a very large head and normally have to grind my helmet for a custom fit just to get it on. Either way, I tried a Maze XL helmet on that didn't have MIPS. If I order a Maze with MIPS will it fit exactly the same as one without?
          Thanks

Does anyone know what Smith means when they say Asian Fit? Also is MIPS just more marketing lingo or is there something radically different in the helmet's construction to differentiate it from this version of Maze?
          TIA
          Paul

I don't know about Asian fit, but I can answer for MIPS. MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) is a new helmet technology that is starting to gain traction in the industry, and basically it helps reduce rotational impact on your brain due to an angled hit to your dome. I can't say exactly how the technology works, but I know that a lot of big companies are starting to include MIPS versions of their helmets. Something tells me it may become an industry standard in a few years, especially as more research into brain injuries comes out. Heres the MIPS website if you want to read more: http://www.mipshelmet.com/#what-is-mips. There's a lot of question about what kinds of helmets really do protect and what not. With my experience, as long as you're wearing some kind of skid lid, you're helping your brain out. Hope this helps
