Description

The lightest certified snow head protection in the world.

Smith just took away your best excuse for not wearing a brain bucket by creating the world’s lightest certified snow helmet. The Smith Maze Helmet only weighs 11.5 ounces! On top of being light as hell, the Maze uses AIREVAC 2 Ventilation to keep your head cool and force goggle fogging the way of the dinosaurs. Remove the AIRFLOW vent plugs for some extra breeze on sunny days and rest assured your goggles will stay secured in the removable goggle lock when you cartwheel out of that corked 540 FAIL.

quiet

Helmets make sense. I have been a non-helmet wearer for years but finally got smart and got into them this year. I like this helmet because it is quiet. So many helmets make a lot of noise when you are really going fast. Which is annoying, and distracting. But this baby is quiet.

Its also really light, cool looking and will protect my head when I do crash, which doesn't happen often but I am more ready than ever.

Small Head

I love this helmet, but unfortunately I have a smaller head. I bought the XS but still find the fit really awkward in the front (easily solved by wearing a headband, although on warmer days it gets too hot). Other than that the light weight is awesome!

Great fit!

I love the fit of this helmet. It doesn't come down too far in the front, and it isn't big and bulky like the Giros that I've owned in the past. The ventilation is amazing, my head seems to be at perfect temperature in the spring heat and January bitter cold. The audio in the helmet is also a great plus. The goggle defog vents in the front aren't a gimik. They legitimately work.

Bottom line, my favorite helmet I've used so far.
I highly recommend it.

for next year i am buying the maze and the I/O goggles. i plan on wearing the goggles on the outside of the helmet just to keep it simple and maximize venting. However i have been hearing some bad things about the goggle strap. Is the goggle strap really so bad that my goggles will constantly slip down and even fall off at times?

What is the difference between this helmet and the Holt? They pretty much look the exact same.

Hey,

You could either contact Smith directly or Skullcandy as they are the ones who make the kit for Smith.

What's the size of the XL Maze Helmet? Looking at the sizing chart there is only XL for the "Holt" helmet. There is no XL under "Adult Helmets". Thanks.

if my head is a 56cm but i have a toque under with dragon goggs, witch size should i get of the smith maze ?

Responded on

L would fit but be snug, if you want room for a beanie or just like it a little loose, the XL is for you.

the maze

this helmet is amazing, i own the giro g9 and bern baker hard hat, this helmet is by far my favorite and lightest. it feels as light as a beanie yet super warm on cold days and vents well for spring days. for anyone that has worn uncomfortable heavy helmets in the past and switched back to hats, get this helmet and you will not be disappointed.

Its Fantastic!!

This is my fourth helmet. I started out with some cheap racing helmet while racing in high school. That was replaced with a Giro Fuse back in 2005. That was a comfortable enough helmet that I replaced it with another Giro Fuse in 2009. I don't know why Giro decided to put that adjustable cranium hugging thing in their helmets, but it gives me a horrible headache. After dealing with it for a little over a year I decided to buy another helmet.

The Maze was advertised as the lightest helmet on the market (certified to be safe). I liked the looks, the advertised weight, and the price wasn't outrageous. I'm very happy with my purchase. The fit is as good or better than the Fuse. Both are a large, but I get the feeling Giro oversizes their helmets so that annoying adjustable thing in the back is somehow useful. The Smith Maze leaves me just enough room for a thin skull cap/helmet liner. I've spent close to 100 hours in my helmet this season and have yet to find a day that was too warm or too cold and the temps have varied from -10F to 55F.

Its also a more solidly built helmet. Instead of being a thin colored plastic sheet covering the foam its a thicker, more durable plastic shell. I'm no longer worried about my helmet hitting gates while beer-league nastar racing. The first Fuse cracked after too many gate impacts. I have also been very happy with the Skull Candy drop-in headphones. The sound quality isn't the best you can get from a set of headphones, but the little mute/control switch is great. I have it hooked to the side of my helmet and a quick tap of the button pauses music so I can converse with someone on a chair lift, listen to radio calls, or deal with injured patients on the hill.

Smith Maze

Love this helmet!! Its so lightweight and comfortable. Doesn't get too hot on those spring days and doesn't block my vision in any way. And now signed by Meg Pugh!

Best

I have used this helmet for a season now and wouldn't trade it for any other helmet on the market. It is the lightest helmet and has the ability to be worn with or without a beanie and with the gogles underneath or on top. Highly comfortable.

If by headphone slots you mean skullcandy earpads, you have to buy them seperately.

also can you wear it with a beanie

Responded on

Yes, you can take the ear liners off. As for a beanie, you should be fine wearing one or a balaclava, but it all depends on how snug the size you get fits your noggin.

if i wanted to wear a beanie under should i get a size larger?

Responded on

I wear a beanie under mine and I just took out the liner instead. so just get whatever size fits good with the liner then take out the liner and use your beanie as the liner.

This is a very comfortable helmet and it does its job. I've already smacked my noggin once and didn't feel a thing... I don't think.
