Smith just took away your best excuse for not wearing a brain bucket by creating the world’s lightest certified snow helmet. The Smith Maze Helmet only weighs 11.5 ounces! On top of being light as hell, the Maze uses AIREVAC 2 Ventilation to keep your head cool and force goggle fogging the way of the dinosaurs. Remove the AIRFLOW vent plugs for some extra breeze on sunny days and rest assured your goggles will stay secured in the removable goggle lock when you cartwheel out of that corked 540 FAIL.
Bottom Line: The lightest certified snow head protection in the world.
I love this helmet, but unfortunately I have a smaller head. I bought the XS but still find the fit really awkward in the front (easily solved by wearing a headband, although on warmer days it gets too hot). Other than that the light weight is awesome!
This helmet is amazing. So light, yet super protective. I have never been a fan of wearing helmets for some reason, but this winter i decided enough is enough. I was trippin' when i wore this helmet for the first time because i could not feel it on my head. It fits so well with smith goggles, and any other brand for that matter. In conjunction with smith gogg's there is virtually no goggle gap! such a snug fit that doesn't shake around, like most other helmet setups i have tried. I am so pleased with this helmet, i will always wear one from here on out! ....Its not "if" you're gonna crash but "when". So gear up and protect your dome!
Help save the planet- buy the "evolve" helmet...They're made with 96% recycled materials!!!

What's the size of the XL Maze Helmet? Looking at the sizing chart there is only XL for the "Holt" helmet. There is no XL under "Adult Helmets". Thanks.
I use this helmet for mountain biking as well as snowboarding, great crossover helmet. I went over the bars while biking and face planted into some rocks- thankfully i was wearing the Maze. After the slam i was pleased to have no concussion, not even a slight headache. This helmet is BOMBER!!! a true skull saver
Great helmet for both resort and touring. I love how light it is for touring and it feels like nothing is on your head. Also the tuneups are nice to have when you are ripping resort.
Yes, you can take the ear liners off. As for a beanie, you should be fine wearing one or a balaclava, but it all depends on how snug the size you get fits your noggin.
As a Smith Athlete, I've tried most of their helmets over the last few years, and this one is definitely my favorite. Its the lightest helmet I've ever worn - I love being protected but not feeling like I'm inside an armored vehicle.
Also, since I'm weight conscious when choosing what I bring on hikes and ski tours, I am really stoked to have this helmet available. Hardly even notice its attached to my pack.
this is my favorite smith helmet yet. honestly. INCREDIBLY light-weight-- it's like you're not even wearing a helmet-- however still warm-- and safe. I'd recommend it for anyone-- it's the lightest certified helmet on the market. . . plus-- I honestly can say that I 'tested it's durability' a few times last season-- check check and check. stoked. will def ride this helmet again next season.
Yo Telegooner. Try buying a helmet one size up from what you are used to. Then take out the earpads, buy a Discrete Doyonator beanie, and loosen the chin straps. Then try wearing the helmet over the beanie..... this is a remedy to your Estrada-ness. Good luck Eric!
I want to buy this helmet, but i'm not sure about the size. I measured my head is it's 60cm. And Smith says the size "L" is for 58 to 60cm. and "XL" is for 60 to 62cm. So, both sizes should fit, but I'm not sure if i should buy the "XL" for looser fit or the "L" for tighter fit. Any recommendation from someone who uses it? How accurate are those sizes?
this will be my first year wearing a helmet skiing since I was a youngster. I can't get over how light it is. I don't feel as though i'm wearing a helmet. For those of you who have avoided wearing helmets because of their bulky, heavy, restricting features, this is the one for you. my mom is stoked
This helmet is so lightweight and comfortable! I hardly even notice that I'm wearing a helmet. I've been told it's the best looking helmet when I rock in skiing. Definitely recommend it!
I have a Giro Shiv audio helmet with Giro's TuneUps ear pads. Wondering if anyone knows if I could use those with the Smith Maze (or any Smith helmet)? Thanks!
This helmet is the culmination of safety, good looks, function, and it's feather-weightedness. The lightest certified helmet out there, the thing is a looker, the Smith Phenom goggles work stylishly with the Maze, and I have a Med fit head, but I get the size Large - so I can wear a medium weight beanie under the helmet (be sure to take off the earpads if you choose to go this route).
This is a super light weight helmet that fits really comfortable. It is a super simple not frills helmet that just does it's job and seems to keep the tempo on my noggin just right. The helmets do run a bit big though, I usually wear a small and I found that I need an XS.
I just took the hardest fall of my life a few days ago while wearing this helmet and despite the fact that it feels about like a hat when you're wearing it, it protected much better. I wear this thing every day and I love it. It has a really simple style and fits super comfortably.
The Smith Maze Helmet is amazing. It is so light weight that I do not even know I have a helmet on my head. It has great venting and I can even hook some audio in the new drop in speaker ear pads. Great colors to choose from too! I had to go with the black Blogosphere. Sick!!
For performance and (goggle strap holder) quality for anyone recommend the Smith Hustle or the Maze/ look if some (either way) if I have Whit/orange goggles a black or whit helmet.
I recommend the Maze.....so lightweight you don't even know you have a helmet on.........for the style.....I always wear black.....but if you have white and orange goggles......your style is def. different than mine.....which is great....but maybe you should go for the white helmet......it might go better with your goggle choice.....
Hope that helps.......By the way, it is snowing again in Utah.....I love skiing between Halloween and Thanksgiving.
Best helmet on the market period...it's so damn light it's not even funny. I always try and wear the lightest stuff there is whenever I ski or hike, and this helmet is far and away the lightest helmet (and certified as well). More so than the weight however, is how small the helmet is. Not small like you need to be a size big, but try your normal size but the SHELL is small...I finally don't look like a bobble-head. And it's cheap!
I love the fit of this helmet. It doesn't come down too far in the front, and it isn't big and bulky like the Giros that I've owned in the past. The ventilation is amazing, my head seems to be at perfect temperature in the spring heat and January bitter cold. The audio in the helmet is also a great plus. The goggle defog vents in the front aren't a gimik. They legitimately work.
Bottom line, my favorite helmet I've used so far. I highly recommend it.
I have never worn a helmet that i've liked so much, i can not say enough about it. besides the good looks, its extremely comfortable and light, i will have this helmet for as long as she lasts me. simply the best one out there.
I have used this helmet for a season now and wouldn't trade it for any other helmet on the market. It is the lightest helmet and has the ability to be worn with or without a beanie and with the gogles underneath or on top. Highly comfortable.

I used to dislike just about everything about wearing a helmet but there's no denying that a helmet protects your head. Smith has changed my mind about wearing a helmet. The Maze is truly the best helmet I have ever worn. Its insanely lightweight, fits perfect with my smith phenoms and i/o's. Oh and did i mention it looks dope too. Buy one, wear one, and be safe in one.
I purchased this helmet about 3 months ago and have just returned from a weeks skiing. I was quite reluctant to buy the helmet as I have never owned one before, also I have always been put off by how massive they make your head look haha! However the maze is completely different. I loved the size and shape and how light it was. I will definitely be wearing it again...it kept me warm and dry and looks awesome! I have no regrets with this helmet I can not wait to wear it again!
Light, love it! This is my first helmet, I was never fond of them because I didn't like how big, heavy and cumbersone they are. Not this helmet I love it and can't tell the difference between it and a beanie.
Been skiing in this helmet for the last year and a half, and have loved how light weight it is (I never question hauling it along in the backcountry and rarely notice it on my head while skiing). I finally got to put it to the impact test this last weekend, when I slammed into a rock wall while skiing Dragon's Tail Coulior in RMNP. The result: big dent and some scratches, but my neck and head didn't even feel the impact! Excellent helmet that will save your life!
These helmets fit great with the goggles on the inside or out... I haven't decided which i like better... If you wear them on the inside of the helmet, its best to take the "clip" on the back of the goggles off. So that there is nothing pressing on the back of you're head!
yes, goggles fit under this helmet. I wear the smith fuze goggles with them. It isn't perfect but it looks pretty good, You're definitely save with any Smith goggles and probably anything else. I guess for adjustment it depends on what you are trying to adjust.
Lightest helmet out! and not only is it light, but fully certified. Finally someone made a helmet that doesn't look like a robot or make my head 10 pounds heavier and hotter. Whenever I wear it I forget I have it on! I hate wearing helmets, but this one has me wearing one way more often.
I bought this helmet after my last absorbed too much damage. I've been pretty happy with it to say the least. It is pretty simple; the price isn't bad, it is super-lightweight, it looks good, and I feel a lot safer when I wear it- something a few blows to the head from trees and rocks will make you appreciate.
I just got a new pair of smith Fuse goggles that are White air retro ( the Orange and white ones ) what helmet style/ color would best match this I need help ! i want to make the goggles look as BA as possible please help !
Just purchased the Smith Maze after some difficulty with my K2 Crossfire fitting with my Oakley A Frames. Just taking it out of the box and onto the head is great low profile fit. It really sits nice on my head. I tried it on with my Oakley AFrames...and they fit perfectly. After wearing this helmet several times now during the season.....I am upgrading this helmet to awesome. It really was a great purchase. Completely satisfied.
I have not had any other helmet with which to compare, but this thing is really comfortable. I forget that I am wearing it. This past weekend it was freaking cold at Breckenridge, and it kept my head and ears nice and toasty. Get Smith goggles as well for the perfect mating.
I hate helmets. I grew up ski racing and have an abiding dislike for the lack of hearing, discomfort and weight of every helmet I've ever worn. But now the smith maze. It's light enough that I actually bring it touring when I'm attempting to ski terrain that scares me a bit, since it is so freakin' light. It's comfortable and simple, and it's relatively stylish. I don't even have a gaper-gap between the helmet and goggles, and I use Oakley A frames, possibly the least helmet-friendly goggle made.
Downsides: still can't here very well with those giant ear flaps. The material covering the outside of the ear flap started to detach after two days (not the best construction).
This helmet is so light and durable there is no other helmet like it. When skiing I sometime forget I have it on. But when you need it most its there. Try it out, you'll never "go back" to any other helmet out there.
Can anyone tell me what the supernova or the neon synth look like from the back. I really want to get this helmet but its annoying how you cannot see what it looks like!
Bought this helmet in the end and I am very happy with it! The helmet looks just like the picture and does have yellow neon paint splatters on the back. It is very comfy and ridiculously light, I could not believe how light it was even with the packaging on! Can not wait to test it on the slopes this March!

This is my fourth helmet. I started out with some cheap racing helmet while racing in high school. That was replaced with a Giro Fuse back in 2005. That was a comfortable enough helmet that I replaced it with another Giro Fuse in 2009. I don't know why Giro decided to put that adjustable cranium hugging thing in their helmets, but it gives me a horrible headache. After dealing with it for a little over a year I decided to buy another helmet.
The Maze was advertised as the lightest helmet on the market (certified to be safe). I liked the looks, the advertised weight, and the price wasn't outrageous. I'm very happy with my purchase. The fit is as good or better than the Fuse. Both are a large, but I get the feeling Giro oversizes their helmets so that annoying adjustable thing in the back is somehow useful. The Smith Maze leaves me just enough room for a thin skull cap/helmet liner. I've spent close to 100 hours in my helmet this season and have yet to find a day that was too warm or too cold and the temps have varied from -10F to 55F.
Its also a more solidly built helmet. Instead of being a thin colored plastic sheet covering the foam its a thicker, more durable plastic shell. I'm no longer worried about my helmet hitting gates while beer-league nastar racing. The first Fuse cracked after too many gate impacts. I have also been very happy with the Skull Candy drop-in headphones. The sound quality isn't the best you can get from a set of headphones, but the little mute/control switch is great. I have it hooked to the side of my helmet and a quick tap of the button pauses music so I can converse with someone on a chair lift, listen to radio calls, or deal with injured patients on the hill.
Love this helmet!! Its so lightweight and comfortable. Doesn't get too hot on those spring days and doesn't block my vision in any way. And now signed by Meg Pugh!
I've worn about five or six different helmets the past few seasons (ones I've rented, borrowed and owned) and the Maze is by far the best helmet I've worn. It's very light, but, most importantly, it's also very protective. I've fallen and hit my head on some runs and on some park rides and most of the helmets I've worn have rung my bell. The Maze, however, protected me fully when I had a massive wipeout in the pipe. I attempted a 180 degree turn after a jump, I lost my balance and landed directly on the back of my head. The Maze cracked, but I had no ill effects whatsoever after the fall. Since you shouldn't wear a cracked helmet, Smith has an offer of 30% off if you return the helmet to them. I just got back from Crested Butte, so I'll be doing that very soon. I highly recommend the Maze. I'd give it six stars if I could.
I just got a new Med. Maze helm, and i wanted to know what smith goggle went best with it that give it a good snug look and feel, the I/O or the Phenom?
I agree with Pip Hunt - the Phenoms work great with this helmet. I just went skiing for three days in Jackson Hole and Grand Targhee and found the two mesh well. I didn't notice any gaps when flying down some cruiser runs or when I ditched in in some 14" pow!
I wear the I/O and the Maze in a medium, and I am really stoked on the combo. Snug fit, no gap, feels like one solid helmet/goggle unit, not like two pieces of gear. Wind doesn't get in around the sides of the goggle either, which is pretty cool.
I have never had a helmet before and one of the last hold outs so this helmet is perfect!!lightweight, no bobble head look and the helmet fit perfect (I wear a medium). I wore this in 3 days of heavy snowfall at Mammoth Mtn,CA last weekend and most of the time did not even notice I had a helmet on. If you were a hold out on getting a helmet... then this one will make you change your mind.
This helmet will fit both those goggles......If I had to choose between the Maze and G10......I would def. go with the Maze. The Maze is so low profile and light, it will make the G10 look like a football helmet. The Maze is sweet.....go low pro......go for the Maze......
light & comfortable but somewhat of a "spaceman" helmet for those with smaller domes. Large enough on the inside so my hat fits somewhat comfortably beneath it for cold days. It also has a ziplining in the ear flaps so you can insert some head phones which is a really great and unmentioned feature. I don't know what it's listed at now, but I bought it new for $27 bucks so shop around.
I would recommend getting an xs. I also have a little head, and ordered the s as that is what I have worn in previous smith helmet sizes. However, the Maze does not have the helmet adjustment system that other models have, and I found the s. a little bit too big.
I am pretty sure you could get away with either, since there is some overlapping in sizes. The small Maze goes down to 51cm though, so that will fit him for sure.
The helmet on this page does not have built in audio, BUT, you can upgrade the helmet with this audio kit: http://www.backcountry.com/outdoorgear/Smith-Skullcandy-Single-Shot-Snap-Fit-Audio-Kit/SMI0592M.html
I've tried on plenty of helmets over the years trying to find one that didn't make me look ridiculous or feel like.. well feel like I was wearing a helmet. This is one of the ONLY ones I've ever tried that accomplishes both (the only other one was the RED Mutiny.
I can't get over how light this thing is. As said by other reviewers, you dont even feel like you are wearing a lid it is so light. And it looks very good on my peanut shaped head. I used to have a Bern Macon - this one crushes it in terms of weight and looks.
I've worn it with Oakley A-Frames and Crowbars and both fit well.
It also has removable inner padding sections, so you can wear it without a beanie (pads in), or with one (pads out) and you get the same feel and fit as long as the beanie is a regular sized one and not just a liner.
In terms of fitting your head the same sizing applies. I just got the Maze for the upcoming season and wear the same size I did for my Variant last season. The helmet itself is way sweeter, though, incredibly light and not bulky at all (and a great price).
Great helmet. Keeps you warm and is so lightweight and comfortable, you forget it's on. Looks great too. I suggest that for extra large heads, like my husband's (62cm) you should probably try a different model because XL was still too small; but mine Med, (59cm) is perfect.
You would think they would uses the other goggle straps they use on their other helmets.. but no you get a cheap plastic clip that the strap comes out of easily
Great helmet. Lightest one I tried. Make sure you try some on to get the fit just right. This thing is snug. The only thing I would suggest getting a liner, though. My head is cold without one.
After my first go around with this helmet, I'm happy to say that I didn't test it on a tree or rock, but I did like it. It looks good and doesn't sit up really high on your head like some helmets. What they say is true, too...it's definitely light. One thing that didn't work for my head size was that it came with some padding in the helmet, and it was too tight with the padding in for me. It was velcro, so I just pulled it out and all was good. Even without that padding, my head was comfortable and warm. I think there are some other inserts that come with it, but I didn't really look at anything else in the box once it worked for me.
Even Bono is not immune to head injuries, bottom line where it! This lid is lighter than most hats and ridiculously comfortable. Once it's on you will never not where it.
this helmet is amazing, i own the giro g9 and bern baker hard hat, this helmet is by far my favorite and lightest. it feels as light as a beanie yet super warm on cold days and vents well for spring days. for anyone that has worn uncomfortable heavy helmets in the past and switched back to hats, get this helmet and you will not be disappointed.
I slammed my head so hard I cracked the helmet last season. Just a simple little lip slide on a simple little stair rail and SMASH. Luckily I was wearing the smith Maze, if I hadn't, I would probably not be able to type this. Props to smith for saftey.
This helmet also easily saved my life. Bought it for touring because it's so light. I hit some rocks and took a nasty fall in Chile over the summer - was very far from a hospital - but there was no need cause this thing spared my head. The helmet didn't crack, but it has multiple dents. I'm just glad it was the helmet that dented and not my head. I'm definitely getting another one of these!
This is the lightest helmet I have ever owned. It is very comfortable, great padding, adequate venting, and fits great with my I/OS goggles. Be sure to measure your head, as it has no micro adjustments.
This helmet is so nice! Super light. Fits great! I love the vent system in the front that pulls the moisture out of my goggles. NO FOG! I am wearing the Smith I/O goggles with it and they fit perfect. Love this thing.
The new Smith Maze is the most badass helmet around. Besides being the lightest in the industry, its super comfortable and of course...great looking!I wear this helmet for skiing and b.a.s.e jumping. It gives me all the protection I could possibly need (and I need alot of protection..:) I rock it with the Smith I/O and Phenom goggle, but the entire smith goggle lineup fits great.
I love this helmet, but unfortunately I have a smaller head. I bought the XS but still find the fit really awkward in the front (easily solved by wearing more...
This helmet is amazing. So light, yet super protective. I have never been a fan of wearing helmets for some reason, but this winter i decided enough more...
