Holt Helmet

Owning a helmet each for winter, summer, and fall sucks. Smith gave the Holt Helmet convertible padding so you can use one helmet year-round, for all your board sports. Hot or cold weather, the Holt's 14 separate vents help to rid your head of hot air so you stay cool. Pop the ear pads, and goggle lock off in the summer and hit the skate park, then take the same helmet and practice your kick-flips on your wake skate. No matter what the season the tough-as-nails Bombshell hard shell keeps your grey matter protected so you can do still do simple math when you're 30.

  • Tough, removable Bombshell ear pads keeps your ears warm and protected against snow, branches, and snowballs
  • Adjustable AirEvac Ventilation lets cool, fresh air circulate under your lid, while hot air escapes
  • A removable goggle lock keeps your eyewear secure while you slay the mountain at mach-speed

Bottom Line: Protect yo' head through all four seasons.

My first helmet

By:
April 28, 2011

After years and years of skiing without I finally broke down and bought a helmet. I guess after having a kid I decided I needed to be a good influence not to mention I don't think her mother would be happy if she had to put up with two of us drooling all the time.

I thought the fit was great, the vents didn't ever give me frozen head nor did I feel like I got overheated in there. I went with the compatible Smith goggles so the whole set up with nice and tight. There's a slick little headphone compartment on the ear covers that's a nice touch too.

I'd recommend this helmet to anyone, especially new dads who are taking too much heat from the wife!

Don't be a dummy, wear a helmet

I purchased the Large, as I have a rather fat melon, and it fits perfectly. I would highly recommend measuring the circumference of your head for sizing purposes. If you find yourself in the middle of a size range, go with the bigger size if you usually wear a beanie or balaclava (although the Holt is plenty warm and you might not even need any insulation- note the ear pads).

Pros: It fits well with any smith brand goggles, or most brands for that matter (I use this with my scope pro’s and they have yet to fog up on me). It is warm while being well ventilated. It has a convenient and easy to use goggle clip on the back. It saves brain cells for less money… hard to beat price.

Cons: The chin strap can be a little uncomfortable in cold winds, but that can be easily remedied with a layer of fleece. Not the most slimming of cranial accessories (especially the Large in matte white) which could be a problem if looking sleek on the slopes is a big deal for you.

Overall: worth it.

Protects The Head

Like the helmet, fits a little more "bobble-head" than the maze does, but comfortable none-the-less. I took the liner out and just do beanie gogs under, only issue with this is the velcro on the underside of the foam sticks to my beanie and is a pain in the ass.

seriously, what else would you buy?

i've been skiing in the Holt, with and without the audio option, for 3 seasons now. if you're into skiing with music it's definitely worth paying for the audio shot. i haven't skied in the Maze helmet from smith, i have tried it on, but i still think i'm going to go with another Holt when i buy a new helmet. it's just simple, steezy, and protective. not to mention warm. maybe check out the Maze if you're worried about the weight, but you CAN NOT go wrong with this helmet. way better than other Giro's i've owned.

This helmet is great. The fit is just right and I barely notice I have it on while I'm wearing it. Not to mention it is also a great looking helmet. No complaints

Good Protection

By:
November 30, 2010

Took a hard fall my first time back on snowblades in 3 years and hit my head pretty hard on the surface. Went out and got this helmet the next day and 1. I felt safer. 2. I was more willing to do tricks at the park. 3. It keeps my head warm without a beanie or anyhting else on under it. 4. Kept me from rolling around on the snow for 10 minutes after bouncing my head off the snow surface.

My first helmet and I'm loving it for a quick purchase and no reaserch. ALSO. I wear my goggles on the outside, my old Spys fit it well but im up grading to Smith goggles this year.

Immediate Comfort

By:
November 25, 2010

So after looking at the complete K2, Bern, Smith, Giro and RED lineup, Smith helmets seemed to have pretty much the best build quality and their "shaping" fit my head better than most. The Colt is a lower-end model but I found the fit on my head to be perfect the moment I put it on... Even the pricier models took a bit of adjusting to get to that point.
So I bought this one. It vents my goggles (REALLY, really well) and I don't even use Smith goggles (yet). So buy it. It's sturdy, comfy, and just the right amount of warm.

Simple and extremely affordable helmet

By:

Simple and extremely affordable helmet from Smith. Great fit with the Smith I/O goggles. Felt very warm and comfortable at all times, even in -20 Japan conditions, also well ventilated. Didn't lash out on the audio option, however it is nice to have the flexibility of adding this down the track. Overall, a good entry level helmet with the 98% of the features anybody would need.

When your doing any action sport. Safety should be first. This helmets other title should be safe. Very comfortable on the head and breathability that your mom would be proud of, this helmet is where its at.

Get's the job done. Color was off.

Loved the graphics of the Navy love boat (I'm a naval architect), but it looked closer to purple than blue. So I went with a different helmet. The fit was alright, not as great as a pricier helmet, but you get what you pay for.
