Vivid colors, exceptional clarity, and chromatic contrast.

See the world with unmatched clarity in a completely colorful way with the Smith Frontman Sunglasses with photochromic ChromaPop+ lenses. Smith's groundbreaking ChromaPop+ technology filters out specific wavelengths of light to optimize color definition and perception, so you see greener grass, redder sunsets, and bluer skies. In addition to this color-enhancing tech, polarchromic lenses automatically blocks glare and adapts your vision in both bright and darkening conditions, making the Frontman excellent in environments where light conditions can change in the blink of an eye.

A hydroleophobic, non-reflective, and scratch-resistant coating on both sides of the lenses protect them from scratches, liquids, your own oily skin, and it prevents any annoying glare. Smith utilizes recyclable material in its Evolve frame that leaves the Frontman surprisingly lightweight. And hydrophilic Megol pads at the nose and temples keep this pair of sunglasses on your face even when you pick up a sweat.

    Awesome Clarity!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I've had these for a little over a month now and have, for the most part, put them through their paces (low light, sunny/bright, overcast, rainy, low/high water, clear/muddy water, etc.). First, the clarity of these is amazing. I've fished pretty hard for spring Steelhead here and my ability to see fish in varying conditions is incredible. I've been using a pair of Costa Del Mar Harpoon 580s with copper lenses that are about 5 years old, and these with the Ignitor lense blow them away (thank you Costa for trying to rip me off on a cracked lense repair because without you I wouldn't be with these awesome Smith's). The Ignitor lenses are much more true to color and brighter in all conditions, which I prefer. So, I won't be going back to a copper tint. I also love how light weight they are. The downside on these is the quality may not be as high as I would like or expect, which is the reason they lose a star. I'm doing an exchange with Backcountry because I was simply cleaning the lenses and one just popped out. I've never had a pair of sunglasses where the lense just up and popped out that easy. The lense that popped out was a bit creaky in the frames from the start as they don't seem to fit the tightest in the frames. I'm going to try a second pair and see if it makes a difference, but will likely stick with the second pair either way and note that the lenses pop out pretty easily. I'd prefer them to be tighter, but these lenses just blow me away and I love the frame as it fits my gargantuan sized head. These frames also stay on my head the best of most of the Smith frames. I did pretty extensive "shake testing" (like I was at a rock concert) on a bunch of frames and these were very hard to make slip down my nose. Also, note that this is one the few sunglasses that Smith is offering with Chromapop and Photochromic. If you're a fisherman and serious about seeing fish in all sorts of conditions or whatever, these are simply amazing sunglasses.

    Awesome Clarity!

Update (7/11/2014): I did end up exchanging these and the second pair have been better in that the lenses have not popped out and don't seem loose. That being said, the frames seem to be a bit less sturdy and a bit creakier than previous sunglass brands I've had, but that could be just what you get for them being so light. The Costa Del Mars and Maui Jims I had seemed a bit more sturdy, but where heavier. But, the clarity of these blows those out of the water. I did notice that a piece of the lens coating flaked off, so that is a bit disappointing. I'm not the easiest on my sunglasses, but this occurred in everyday use (not fishing) and I'm very careful to always have these in the protective bag when I'm not wearing. I also talked to a guy at Smith and he said these will delaminate under certain conditions, such as leaving in the car when hot. This has never happened with any of my other sunglasses that had glass lenses. I would consider glass frames if they had them in these frames, but I'm not sure I could make the change because I love other aspects of these so much. So my rating of these still stands, great sunglasses and the best I've had for clarity, sight fishing and everyday use, but they lose one star for quality. In essence, be prepared to baby these a bit more, and even when you do you may still have quality issues. I'm sticking with them because they are just too awesome in so many other ways.
