This are definitely a great pair of glasses for fishing! The rubber pads on the inside of the arms are key for not slipping off your head in the water. They also have crazy crisp visual performance for looking into the water! Highly recommended.
Great glasses, not the fit I wanted

I really like the lenses on these glasses. The visual clarity was great! Unfortunately I had to return these. I just couldn't handle how long the arms were, they extended far beyond my eyes and cause some pressure that I knew would lead to headaches.

This is a great fitting sunglass! The spring hinges are super solid. When I am not wearing the glasses, they usually end up on my hat. The never fall off. Glasses lenses are the way to go. Super crisp otics and more durable than plastic lenses. Worth every dime!

These are the best glasses ever! Not only are glass lenses the best for optics, but I really like the spring hinges. I wear my glasses on my hat all day long when they are not on my face and they never fall off. Great Fit - Great Quality!
Solid investment

Smith never ceases to amaze me when I pick up a new pair of their shades; The Smith Backdrop is the best pair of shades I've ever worn. Their new Techlite TLT lens technology makes for a low-key yet very well protected field of vision. The frame and hinges also feel durable...the metal spring hinges are great as it allows for opening up these sunglasses with just one hand for quick and easy deployment. The styling is also classic Smith, which always looks good.
I take off 1 star because the fit is just a little off for me. These shades rest on my face in a way where they are slightly rotated backwards (which allows for more space in between the bottom of the frame and my eyes)...Ultimately, this does not affect performance and it does not bother me. I have a small face size (keep in mind, these shades fit medium, so my review is subjective in this respect).
Awesome glasses!!

I have had these glasses for almost 1 1/2 years (1 year 4 months). I have kept them in excellent condition. I have the brown stripe green mirror, and I have received a lot of compliments on them.
The lenses are somewhat large, but not outlandishly so. The provide great coverage.
One thing I really like about this glasses is they feel very sturdy; they do not feel cheap at all. Even though they are a chunkier frame, they feel very comfortable and like I am wearing smaller glasses.
These techlite glass lenses are very good quality as well.
I highly recommend these glasses if they are in your price range, as they are somewhat pricey (not as expensive as maui jim glass lenses).
If you think these lenses might be a little large for your liking, smith makes the same style just smaller. They are called the touchtone.
Backcountry drops the ball on Smith backdrop.

Sunglasses are great. Just realize that YOU WILL NOT GET THE CASE that they used to include for free with these $178 sunglasses. Disappointing considering that BackCountry still leads you to believe you will get the case in their visual description. Very misleading. Sales girl was nice, but no help. Just offered that I could return them. I get that people are trying to save money in a recession, but for this kind of investment, you should get a case, or at the very least a company that won't lead you to believe you'll get one. Bought another $400 of gear here that all seems great. But black eye for BackCountry. Doubt I'll be back. But they are great sunglasses. Just buy them somewhere else.

Smith's website shows a black frame with blue mirror lens for this model? Any chance backcountry will carry this model in the future?

I have never been a fan of polarization because it created a weird "film" on objects, and tilting your head changes what you see through the lenses, but Smith's polarization does not seem too extreme. A pair of polarized Oakley lenses I had before hand messed with the optical quality.
As for the fit, they are perfect around the lenses, but the TEMPLES ARE TOO LONG! I need about a 120-127 temple, these are 136. That's the downside to buying smith, the color options and sizing is not very customizable. Many of the other models don't have the same style/fit as these with smaller arms. Molding the arms only voids the warranty too.
The optical quality is tops, as is expected from their premier "techlite" glass. Almost bought a pair of Revo's Thrive, but I didn't like the color/lens combinations (even worse selection).
Optical Quality - A
Fit - B (temples are way too long)
Style - A
edit*the optical distortion truly is minimal. i went back to the store to try on a pair of revos to compare. my eyes are really sensitive to such things and i have to say, smith glass beats the pants off of revo glass in terms of 1:1 vision.

I fish a lot. Sometimes all day long. Whether I'm guiding or fishing, these are some of the best glasses I've owned. Extremely comfortable, good in many light conditions, from cloudy to full sun. Polarizing is also top notch. Many times I see fish I never would have seen without them. Buy these if you have the money. You won't regret it. BTW, they are also very stylish and I wear then everywhere, not just fishing.

I ordered these sunglasses and I must say they are really comfortable around the face. Usually sunglasses put pressure on my temples and cause headaches but not these. They have a great fit to them and are comfortable to wear which is rare these days with sunglasses.
