Designated TML (Thermal Midlayer) by Smartwool, the Women’s Light Stretch Terry Tight traps heat and keeps you toasty even on the most crisp winter mornings. Hours of snowshoeing pose no problem to the Terry’s merino wool, which manages moisture and odor. Create a full heat seal with lockdown ankle zippers, and stash your keys in the back pocket before heading off to the lodge for lunch.
these were very nice pants, but runs big in the waist and torso. They seems to be very warm, but just baggy and not attractive what so ever. too bad. if you are wearing as base under some larger ski pants then this is a good pant for you.
Yes. That's exactly what they were designed for. Fall-Winter-Spring running, skiing, cycling. The outer weave is tight, but will let some air through. Perfect for aerobic activity, not as good for static activity or downhill skiing. Hope this helps.
These tights are great. They are really not tights - you can wear then on the outside by themselves as black leggings, but they are light enough to be considered TML. So you can wear them for sports, but also around the city with boots. They have a smooth polyester outside face, not too shiny, and on the inside they are lined with wool with a terry texture. So they feel very soft inside. Re fit - I'm usually a medium and the medium fits true to size. The tights are long enough to cover ankles, and are slim and zipped around calfs and ankles. They are roomier around the thigh and bum. They look as if they're skin tight though. I personally like this, it makes them super comfortable and you don't have to worry about ripping anything if you bend over. If you have a heavier bum, these would be perfect. Also, I really like it that they have a drawstring - you can adjust the tightness - and that the waist is more like a natural or just-below waist. In really cold weather this means you can bend over and still have your lower back protected from cold. It also means your tummy tires don't hang out over your pants. I really don't understand the trend for lower waists in thermal wear. On fashion jeans yes, on things that are supposed to keep you warm in below zero temperatures, no. Oh, one more thing. They have a zip pocket on the back that's big enough to fit keys or a small wallet. Not just a useless mini-pocket. Genius. So thumbs up for these and I'm getting more!

Hi there, can you wear these as a kind of warm leggings around town? I struggle with what pants to wear in the city (below freezing) with boots...you just cant' shove jeans or pants into boots, so I'm looking for a pair of ultra-warm leggings type things. Thanks!! A
I wear the Ibex wool energy tights with silk long underwear (cause they're a bit itchy) and also for extra warmth. You could wear these around town if you had a long coat (down, etc) to give some more warmth, maybe. Depends how cold you get.
These are nice pants. They aren't itchy at all, and they're fairly warm. I'm pretty much always cold, and I run and ski all winter long. I wear these from about 30-45 degrees (ie late fall and early spring), maybe even a bit warmer, and they're great for that. I'm waiting for Smartwool to make women's pants for real winter days.
I think as a designated thermal midlayer that Smartwool is implying they should be worn with an insulated softshell pant for the more intense winter activities (like hours of snowshoeing), whereas they are fine to use as leggings for chilly runs and city activities.
adding to my review-- I would never wear these on "the most crisp winter mornings" or snowshoeing. Hours of snowshoeing" makes me laugh. I'd be absolutely frozen. My husband, who is always hot, would be fine, though. Gear manufacturers and reviewers need to test this stuff on actual women.
I run all year. During the winter, the temperature will drop to blow zero. These tights are a great base layer for those temps! When above 15-20 deg, the tights work great just by themselves ... well with a running skirt over them too. =) I am 6'0" tall lady and was surprised that SmartWool offered talls. Length was perfect! Thank you SmartWool!
