Great jacket

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

This jacket works great as a stand alone or as a layer under a heavier jacket. The thumb loops provide a lot more hand coverage, which works great when I'm running in colder weather. The hand gets covered all the way down the knuckles. I'm 175, 6', and a large works fine for me.

We have this full zip top in two colors and my husband looks fantastic in it. He has a lengthy upper body with long arms (6 ft tall) and the XL fits him great. He wears these all the time because of all the qualities that merino wool has to offer. Breathes well and keeps him warm.Washes in a normal cycle and I hang it to dry. Looks as good as new. Love it!

Awesome fit!

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I ordered one black and one green and both of them are awesome! I am 5'10" 180 with an athletic build and the medium fits like it was tailored for me.

I look forward to wearing it skiing and while d-golfing this winter!

Awesome fit!

Smartwool for outrigger canoeists

I wear my Smartwool shirt when I paddle my outrigger canoe (OC-1) in the early spring or late fall.

It is dark orange, so it is easily visible on or in the water. That was important to me. I don't know why the marketing types insist on giving vague color names to items such as "canyon" that tell you nothing. I find the practice of describing colors as "canyon" or "watermelon" or "mocha latte" counterproductive. It is no help, it only confuses.

It is wool therefore it provides warmth even when it is wet. Most cute high tech "wicking" fabrics don't provide warmth when they are saturated.

It unzips and zips easily so I can maintain a proper body temperature. It is long enough to warm my entire torso and it offers partial hand coverage if I lose my neoprene gloves..

It has a pocket that'll hold a lockblade knife and whistle.

It is soft and comfortable, and doesn't pill in the dryer.

In a word, I like it and it is what I need when I am on the edges of the paddling season and the air temperature is starting to go up and the water temperature is still in the 50s.

    New go to top

I'm 6'3" medium build and the large fits perfectly. This is my first Smartwool piece of clothing and it's become my new favourite top. It's light but a lot warmer than it's lack of bulk would suggest. it's not skin tight like thermal layering but it's also not loose like a jacket. You could wear it with nothing underneath but I usually wear it with a cotton t-shirt underneath. Very versatile, I use it as an everyday top but I'll also use it as a layer under a ski jacket on cold days. You could also use it as a running top on really cold days or for cross-country skiing. I bought the blue and it looks great. I'm also going to buy the dark lime.
