A classic ski sock becomes even more sustainable.

The Smartwool PhD Ski Mid Sock just became more durable with Smartwool's WOW technology; Wool on Wool means an extra layer of wool on those high impact zones for more long-lasting performance. More wool means less nylon, making the Smartwool PhD Ski Mid Sock a doctoral frontrunner indeed.

Here's what others have to say...

Keep your feet toasty

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Bought these for the colder days and I gotta say what a great sock. They are medium so they are not the thinist but by no means does there thickness affect comfort. I buy my boots smaller then usaully to help with stretching so I was a little concerned with these medium tightness but they work great even when room is limited. Quality is up there too going on my second season and they look new. Recommend

My everyday ski sock

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I wear these basically every ski-day. Great fit, breathable, warm, snug.

Nice socks bro!

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These socks strike a great balance for a midweight sock. The wool is a great simple technology but as mentioned in earlier posts, does not last too long. They stay warm when wet (gotta love wool) and fit fairly tight (maybe too tight). Overall I would recommend these socks if you can get em on sale.

Great sock, but does not last.

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Bought this sock winter of 2011. I wore the sock for about three months two or three times a week and the inner soft plushy lining just wore away till just threads remained. I am hoping this was just a bad batch or something because when they were new they were really warm and comfortable, which is why I am going to get another pair and try them out again. Hope this review was helpful.

Can a sock be sexy?

This does the trick. Smartwool consistently slays it with simple products that feel and fit great. The medium weight strikes a great balance between warmth and overheating.

Grab them while you can!

Great Socks

These socks are great. Light enough for warm days yest heavy enough for when the sun goes away and the temperatures begin to drop. I especially like the added padding in the shin area of the sock. It really does make a difference. Smartwool socks are far superior and are definitely my go to brand for all technical socks.

Epic Sock! No need for any other

Only good things to say. The material is perfect, warm and cozy. Not to hot.

The pattern of extra cushion and air flow could not be better. Before these socks I would come home and my shins would hurt. With the extra padding for the downhill skier, I no longer have a problem. I have washed them about 6 times and notice very little wear and tear. You do have to be careful with them around Velcro material, as the grabby velcrow will slowing make them fuzzy and pull the fibers out.

I own 3 pair, just so I can wear them around the house sometimes too.

Best socks I've had

I've been skiing for 20 years so I've been through a lot of socks. These are the best yet, great fit (I'm a size 10 and I went for size M), great at wicking (despite the fact that I sweat a lot) and didn't get stinky. I'll be getting more for next season.

Nice and warm. Definitely did the job.

Well it was my first time skiing and this definitely kept my feet nice and warm. I was looking for a sock that protected my legs from touching ski rental boots. I have chunky legs and these kept up the whole time. I never had to adjust them. I loved these and would recommend them to anyone.

Very Comfortable Ski Sock with Nice Colors & Designs

Picked up a pair in Lime. The warmth and thickness are medium -- the comfort and style are HIGH. I wear size 14 or 15 shoes and the PhD size XL stretches to fit perfectly (even after washing multiple times).

Highly recommend!

Simply the Best

Without a doubt Smartwool PHD's are the best socks you can buy for skiing. The socks are actually pretty amazing for anything be it hiking or lounging in a chilly house.
PHD's win with a perfect fit, just the right amount of cushion, no smell, warmth, and most importantly they STAY PUT!

I love these socks because you put em on and never have to worry about pulling them up or cutting off your circulation. buy a few and it will be money well spent.

By far my favorite socks. Comfortable inside the boot, comfortable outside the boot. Soft and layered in the proper areas. I have not had an issue with them sliding down either. I could lounge around in these all day.

Perfect snowboarding socks!

Kept my feet warm & dry for 7 hours. Not bad. ;)

Awesome, obviously

Smartwool never lets me down when it comes to ski socks.
They hug your foot well and give your arch just enough support. "High Density Impact Zones" provide extra padding in your heel and toes for more durability and protection, and the soles and shins have some extra cushioning too.

I wouldn't use these particular ones for the coldest days on the hill, they're only medium weight, so I wouldn't suggest taking them past single digits.

The wool in the socks helps keep your feet smelling fresh so you can kick back with your feet on the dash after that long day of riding and your buddies won't yell at you. They'll also be BREATHABLE. Your feet won't sweat, which means that your toes will stay warm.
Smartwool does no wrong, and has always been my first choice in socks.

Buy these and forget about it

You simply can't go wrong with the SmartWool PHD ski socks. I've probably got about 10 pairs of ski socks total from all different brands, a few are as good as the PHDs, most aren't, but none are better. I've got both the medium and the light-weight. My feet typically stay pretty warm and get sweaty no matter what. So I only wear the medium-weight on the coldest of days. The moisture wicking is a huge deal for me and these puppies perform wonderfully. Also, the strategically-placed extra padding and stretchy pieces are a real asset and do a great job of keeping the sock in place.

I liked them so much that I bought my girlfriend a couple pairs of the women's version and bought PHD hiking and dress socks for myself.

You could probably save a few bucks with something else, but may not be as happy. Just buy these and forget about it!

Nice sock

Can't go wrong with Smartwool. Nice medium wt, tall sock for high-top work boots. By my scale they may be a little closer to 'thin' but not so much I'd complain, I still love em..
