Smartwool Ultra Light Micro Sock

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Sock it up and pay the price for these! (see what I did there) I like super lightweight socks with no cushion & these hold up to long runs, hikes or even mountain bike rides. The colors get a little crazytown but I'll wear anything that keeps my feet happy. I wear a size 6 women's shoe & the small fit my feet fine.

I would like to take the last 5 seconds of my review to straight up lie to you and say that the red and yellow colors will make you run faster.

Can someone tell me how these compare to...

Can someone tell me how these compare to the outdoor ultralight smartwools, as in thickness and cushion?

Responded on

It really is the same sock just in an ankle length.

Barely there feel.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I picked up this anklet in a desperate attempt to replace entirely too-worn (i.e., holes) running shoes. I love the color, but found the sock to be a hair too thin my for preference. Through the mesh on my shoes, I could feel the cold morning air on my toes. It took about 3 miles for my feet to warm up. However, I could see someone who likes low-volume running shoes loving this sock.

makes running fun!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

too many folks think that running must be an unpleasant experience. "no pain no gain" that's only if you are not running in these socks. they hold your foot well, move moisture so your feet don't get soggy, regulate temperature and just feels good! if you are going to run, the most important thing is your feet right? get these socks and run to your hearts content, your feet will thank you

Ultra light is right

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

These are probably the thinnest socks that I own. They are really comfortable and great on short runs when its hot. They look like they are breaking down faster than other merino socks that I wear. Sizing was a little on the small side for me. I wear at 11.0 and they are a little more snug than I would like. They slide down a little on runs over about 6 miles. Not sure if this would be fixed by sizing up. Overall they are pretty good.

Not bad...

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These socks are great - read reviews below. But my one complaint is that they don't stay in place for long runs (doesn't have a heel tab so socks ride down into my shoes).

Phenom!!!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

These socks are super comfortable and fit fantastic! They are so thin and do a great job wicking the moisture that after 5 miles I couldn't even tell I had them on. I ordered 3 pairs to start and may have to order a few more! Jackpot!!!

Great sock!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I love these socks. If only they were cheaper and I could justify buying all smartwool socks for all occasions. These are really light, but so good for running, biking, gym, etc. They're nice and cool, don't get sweaty, and seem pretty durable, which seemed unlikely based on how thin they are. Good product, will be buying more. Size 8, bought medium, fits perfectly, snug.

SmartWool PhD RULMS Rock!

Blended composition? Fabric drawbacks? Nylon components? 4Degree Elite Fit system? ReliaWool technology? I've never really thought about the value or my enjoyment of all those features, but I do really like these socks. As with all SmartWool products, I'm surprised I'm willing to pay this much, but I do keep coming back for more!

Pic below, taken at cemetery where I run, shows how much sock is visible above shoe.

Great Running Sock

Smartwool makes a stellar product that does what it claims to. I really like the light feel of these socks and they wick well. However, because they are so light weight, they don't stand up to multiple uses without washing as well as other Smartwools. They wont dry as quickly and they wont stay in place as well.

That being said, for single or two day use, i don't think you can do any better than these.

So Fresh!

I can hardly express my absolute love for SmartWool socks. I run in minimalist/barefoot shoes and these work perfectly in conjunction with the New Balance Minimuses, not too bulky but keep your feet dry and your shoes from getting too stinky.

Blister free and fresh as can be!

Awesome socks - totally worth it

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have multiple pairs of SmartWool socks for good reason, whether for hiking, running, mountain biking or just around town. They fit great and should last a long time (based on my other pairs of SmartWools). The socks are quality, and breathe great. My favorite for outdoor athletics.

love them

I love these socks. They are very lightweight and thin. They allow your feet to remain cool even during a workout. They also have support were it is needed the most.

great socks!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I'm not someone who usually buys running socks, but figured what the heck. I've used these once (for an indoor/treadmill run) and I love them! I was really concerned about the grey color because I tend to get Athlete's Foot when wearing colored socks, but no problems at all! I wish I would have bought more than one pair.

Great socks

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I purchased some "silver" socks on SAC. They are wonderful socks in fit and function, but the color is more like more like "dingy old sock that got washed with some of the wife's purple clothes too many times." As a positive, I won't have to worry about them getting dingy!

I got these for a steal on SAC and I'm so glad I did. They are just awesome socks... comfortable, fit like a glove, warm. I bought two pairs, but I wish I bought more.
